AmeriSave is a medium-sized non-bank lender, which provides first mortgages and mortgage refinancing. The company offers a full complement of loan products, including low-cost government-backed loans.

Though AmeriSave has had some regulatory problems in the past, its competitive pricing and overall transparency may compensate for these issues.

The company's online portal can provide quotes in under a minute. AmeriSave features a number of calculators and other tools on its website to help homeowners understand how different refinancing scenarios would play out for them.

The company also offers an unusually high level of proactive customer service during the quote process that may make shopping for the best refinancing offer easier for customers.

Loan Variety - 4.5 / 5

AmeriSave offers competitive rates on its mortgage refinance products, which include both government-backed FHA, VA, and USDA loans, as well as conventional and jumbo loans.

Customers can also choose between fixed- and variable-rate loans, though with mortgage rates being near historic lows at the time of this review, many borrowers would be best served by locking in a loan rate while the market is so favorable.

Ease of Process - 5 / 5

AmeriSave makes comparing refinancing scenarios considerably easier than many companies. The company's quote tool returns a wide variety of options and shows you how your monthly payments will change if you decide to pay points upfront. AmeriSave's website features a live chat feature. After you complete the quote process, an AmeriSave representative will reach out via chat and ask you if you need any help understanding your options or continuing with the application process. Such pro-active customer service is unusual in the industry. Speaking with a loan representative in real time, when you have all of your options in front of you on your computer, is a great way to gain insight into the refinancing process. The use of live chat versus telephone contact may be more comfortable and less intrusive for many borrowers.

Customer Service and Reputation - 4.5 / 5

Despite the considerable number of positive reviews AmeriSave has received on online consumer platforms, AmeriSave has had 14 regulatory actions taken against it by the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and 599 complaints lodged with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau over the past three years. Given the size of the company and the number and variety of loans it offers, that record isn't all that bad. Many lenders don't even fare that well. But it does underscore the need for consumers to become extremely well-educated about mortgages before they refinance a property. Many complaints in the mortgage industry can be traced back to misunderstandings about loan approval criteria, lenders' fees, and borrowers' responsibilities once they've taken out a loan.

I have been trying to Refi on a house for 4 months. The employees do not contact you ever. If you do speak with someone everything on my part is okay. Next week never comes (17 weeks and we should be closing soon). They are a scam and it's obvious.... Do not use them and DO NOT pay for an appraisal because you'll never get a loan or your money back...

The worst bank I have ever dealt with. Started the process to refinance in July 2020. No one returns calls they ask for the same information over and over again, the price constantly changing in a negative direction. Finally when I call to get answers to my questions, all the sudden my debt to income ratio is too high. I have over $400K in equity in my home, this bank is a joke and by far the worse customer service I have ever seen! Highly highly recommend not wasting your time with these clowns! Dennis Palmer App # 10734997. Lost my $500 deposit also. 5 months for them to get their act together and I'm the one out the money.

I have had a refinance application with your company for over two months. I cannot get anyone to respond to me in any way. I am a very dissatisfied customer. My Application #11001864.

greg.schow posted on 12-21-2019 his bad experience with amerisave. when I started up with amerisave I wasn't aware of these customer reviews. funning reading greg.schow's comments, it was exactlly what I went through. they offered me "low ball" numbers then charged me $500 application fees. two weeks later they bombarded me with documents to be signed via email. the loan estimate, tucked away in the pile, was completely different from the offers they initially gave me over the phone, the loan was for $5000 more and the closing cost was an additional $4000. I called them on that and was told the interest rates change daily and they had no control over them. Two weeks before they had told... Read More

Be careful. The first 5 minutes was great. The next month a living hell. No responses, no replies. Call any number and if it answers it hangs up on you. FOR REAL. You'll think that you're being scammed. You've just given everything to steal your identity and more. My banker was Henry Colliver. Wow what a God awful experience. I would suggest if you get Henry, run. Get another person or another company. It's just not worth the anguish. No joke. I wish I had read the reviews and run away.

I regret ever crossing paths with this company. The loan officer was pushy from the beginning and then lied to us about details of our refinance. He attempted to convince us to take a higher loan amount and get cash back, that then pushed us over 80% LTV and would require us to pay for mortgage insurance. When I confronted him with that, since one of my main goals from the beginning was to be rid of mortgage insurance, he advised that we would have to delay closing to fix the loan amounts, or I could take the money and apply it to my first payment and the mortgage insurance would automatically cancel off. I specifically addressed with him that a clause in my current mortgage made me pay... Read More

My experience with AmeriSave was extremely NEGATIVE. I don't advise anyone to go for refinancing with AmeriSave. Everything looks good and promising until you start to work with them. During a phone conversation, the Loan Origination officer Eric Toney asked me to pay a non-refundable Application fee $500 upfront (by credit card) without giving me a copy of the Loan Estimate and Closing Cost Details. He failed to explain that $500 included in Loan Cost as Application fee, will be deducted from the total Loan Amount and that the Estimated Cash to Close will be returned back. It took me several times to repeat my questions by email and on the phone. I had impression that he doesn't... Read More

July 21, 2020 was the day I started the refinance process. Today is September 11, 2020 the day I stopped the process mainly due to AmeriSave LACK of communication as to the progress of the loan. Below are salient reasons. 1. My loan officer Sebastian Navarro was told by AmeriSave's Customer Service to "Please Assist" on September 2. Today is September 9 and no email/phone call from Mr. Navarro. 2. AmeriSave's "CHAT," THREE TIMES I tried this function and THREE TIMES, I waited 30 minutes and hanging up because NO ONE came online.

I applied on August 14th. Sent all documents by August 15th. Rate was a float, could not lock in rate. Company may be OK, but process and loan originator Matthew Brown was less than adequate. A nice individual, but either did not understand or did not know answers to my questions. After 17 days of NO action, I turned to another company. His staff asked for more information. I ask what and the next day they sent a text stating they had all the information. Happen again the next week. His answer was always "everything is great, waiting on a Loan Processor". I sent in 19 documents (DD214, Bank Statements, Income verifications, etc). The application has a 42 page document that you... Read More

I believe its a loan originators responsibility to see that a paying client receives what cash out they are asking for at closing. When its requested via my initial application and repeated multiple times via email, text and phone calls to my originator but the cash out to me is almost $5,000.00 less, someone didn't do their job. Very unhappy about the poor service and communication I received from my loan originator and my loan processor. Loan processor was repeatedly interruptive and snippy. I was told by my loan processor that she would request as a courtesy from my poor service, a refund of 1 point that I paid as part of my closing costs. I agreed. I never got a refund. Being disabled... Read More
