Summary

Pets Plus Us is a good pick for pet insurance as the company does not discriminate based on age or increase premiums based on claim history. However, annual deductibles do increase every five years but will never go up more than $100 at a time. It's also worth pointing out that Pets Plus Us' deductible only has to be fulfilled annually and not on per condition/incident basis. The company will also cover alternative treatments so long as they are administered by a licensed veterinarian.

We tried to insure our 14 week old pure bread puppy with this company and thought they would be a good choice now that Costco has picked them up. What a mistake! They wrote an exclusion into our plan for limping or anything to do with the legs. We went through our vet and questioned it and they wrote a letter to the insurance company. Upon the insurance company getting the letter they removed the one exclusion and replaced it with another. There is nothing wrong with our dog, she is completely healthy as stated by the vet. This company will write exclusions into their contracts so they don’t have to pay. Beware—read the fine print and avoid Pets Plus Us

The sales agent sounded very nice, telling me they would take care of almost everything ever needed to look after my dog even food. well after having several visits to the vet with my dog I put in my claims and out of about $1700 they paid out $48. After telling them to cancel my policy the went ahead and took the next months payment. Oh yes and i chose the best most expensive plan for my dog.

I have been with Pets plus for almost 5 years. I just added a puppy last spring. When I did, I looked to save some money and talked with an agent and lowered my older dog to an accident only plan for $20 a month. I then heard some stories from friends and called back to increase my plan again. They said, since I lowered my plan I will now be treated like a new customer, and all previous issues will be exempt. They never said this when I lowered. I am cancelling and telling everyone I know to never use this company!

My premium was increased by 35% to $102 after paying into my policy for over 5 years at just over $60. Was sent an email giving me 30 days notice of the increase. Can't go to another company because my dogs pre-existing conditions would not be covered. Backed into a corner with no choice but to pay the increase. When is the next one? No respect for the policy holder, could have implemented a gradual increase and could have given more notice. I would not trust this company nor will I recommend them or open any future policies with them.

I got screwed over by this insurance company. My dog had Entropion surgery. Because he had a "pre-existing" condition for conjunctivitis, his claim for surgery was denied. His Entropion was cause by the lower lid rolling into the eye, and the lid hair scratching the cornea creating an eye ulcer. This was not caused by caused by conjunctivitis. Entropion is a common condition for wrinkle-faced dogs. So let me provide a history of customer service with this company... Once I knew my dog required surgery, time was of the essence....I reached out to this company for a pre-approval before deciding on which procedure to arrange. I told Pets Plus Us that I needed this information as soon... Read More

Wish I had read all the negative comments before I signed up for this insurance. When I thought the plan was canceled they kept billing me premiums and then sent me to a collections agency. A phone call would have been nice. Then I asked if I could make a claim since I am paying the premiums aparently owed. But they said no. So I basically paid them for 2 years of premiums with zero claims. They were not willing to negotiate. This business is about getting your money not caring for your sick pet. BUYER BEWARE do not use this insurance!!!

Think your pet is covered for legitimate illness? Think again! My dog had e-coli infection and then a stomach condition called ileus. We have almost $7000 in vet bills and have paid Pets Plus Us our $100/month premium since we got our dog. They have found a sleazy little loophole in order not to cover our claim. Small Claims Court it is!

If you don’t mind waiting a long time for repayment they are less expensive. I sent a prescription invoice on Feb. 4, 2019 and I still have not received a cheque? It’s March 19th. My other pets are with Trupanion. I always have cheque within 2 weeks. They also said I could appeal a decision 1 year later they made on my dog based on some erroneous reports before I adopted him. I waited two years, sent my appeal and again heard nothing back. My rates go up annually even though they said they would not. I thought I would try another company because I wa with Trupanion for many years and did not like their changes in their policies but they are considerably better than Pets plus Us.

My dog passed away & before they would process the last claim for her cremation they insisted that my vet send all her medical record before they would process the claim. They treated me so poorly at a time when I was already stressed. Shame on you - you are the worst company.

This company is a sham. They place exclusions on your policy for making a 'proactive' visit to the vets office for any 'minor' occurence. They have terrible customer service. I was denied for any coverage on anything I claimed, their excuse was that it was "routine" vet care and not considered an 'ailment' - When I starting asking to see my record of "claims" - none of which were ever "paid out" - they refused to provide those "claims" - instead making veiled threats that if I wanted to change insurance companies, these claims would be viewed by other pet insurers and considered "pre-existing " conditions. Stay away from this company.
