The company also excels in its discount offers, providing customers with discounts that range from the simplest, like loyalty and multiple auto discounts, to more specific savings for things such as being a good student, taking driver training courses, and installing anti-theft devices.

Coverage - 5 / 5

When looking into choosing a car insurance company, most consumers will agree that the amount of coverage the insurer offers is one of the single most important consideration in their minds, (likely followed closely by price).

The first step in deciding this will depend on where you live, as coverage requirements vary by state.

In any case, once you’ve met the bare minimum, it’s likely you’ll want to increase your coverage, so you’re better protected on the road.

Amica auto insurance provides more than your average auto insurance coverage.

Aside from its standard coverage (which includes property damage and bodily injury liability, as well as personal injury protection, uninsured/underinsured motorist property/damage and bodily injury insurance), Amica also gives its customers the possibility of purchasing supplemental services and protections, with its Platinum Auto Choice plan.

This program includes extra coverage options such as Good Driving Rewards, which works through a point system.

These Amica Advantage points can later be used for paying a deductible or to cover the extra cost to the insurance policy, should you be involved in a car accident.

These points are earned according to the time you’ve been with Amica, whether you have any extra policies with the company, have a yearlong record of good driving, and have made some referrals.

Another one of Amica’s add-ons provides identity theft protection by monitoring all three major credit bureaus and sending alerts within 24 hours of any suspicious activity.

Finally, Amica offers Full Glass Coverage (windows and windshields repaired or replaces at no extra cost), and Rental Coverage of up to $5,000 towards a similar vehicle as your own.

As Amica is a mutual insurance company, it also offers dividends to policyholders instead of shareholders, meaning that Amica customers can expect average dividend payments between 5 and 20 percent of the annual rate.

Claims Satisfaction & Customer Experience - 5 / 5

Amica Mutual Insurance Company consistently receives overall positive ratings online, with its professional, efficient agents a salient point across the board.

The company has been accredited by the Better Business Bureau since 1957, and holds an A+ rating on their website.

There are a total of 87 complaints on record, but they have all been closed by Amica.

Trustpilot also rates Amica highly, with a better-than-average 7.4 score.

Negative reviews tend to focus on its rates and not its service or agents, which also indicates how important customer service is for the company.

Amica Mutual Insurance Company is an underwriter, meaning that it underwrites its own policies.

And since it’s a mutual insurance company, its policyholders technically own shares in the company.

Without any outside investors or public listing on an exchange, Amica answers only to its policyholders.

The company has been in service for 111 years, making it the oldest mutual automobile insurer in the United States.

It also offers home insurance policies, making policy bundling discounts easier to obtain.

Today, it has maintained a strong financial rating, acknowledged by AM Best's A+ superior score.

Pricing & Discounts - 5 / 5

As with all car insurance companies, Amica auto insurance's premiums and deductibles depend on a number of factors, but its rates are still consistently lower than many of its competitors.

One of the key factors is the absence of prior bodily injury coverage, and there are a great number of discounts customers can apply for to reduce the plan's costs.

Amica excels at policy discounts, offering a total of 18 discounts that include vehicle, driver and policy discounts:
  • Claim-free – No claims for three years (excluding glass and towing)
  • Loyalty – Two years of insurance with Amica
  • Paid in Full – Paying the premium of the entire policy before the first bill is due
  • Auto-Pay – Automatic billing
  • E-Discount – Receive bills and information online
  • Electronic Stability – Get a discount for your car’s electronic stability control feature
  • Passive Restraint – Save for having airbags
  • Forward-Collision Warning – Obtain a discount for having an anti-collision feature
  • Adaptive Headlight – Receive a discount for having headlight that adapt to light conditions
  • Defensive Driver Training
  • Driver Training – Only for drivers under 21
  • Good Student – Maintain a B-average in high school or college
  • Student Away at School
One of Amica’s most unique ways to save is its Legacy discount, which applies to drivers under 30 whose parents have had car insurance with the company for at least five years.

Qualifying drivers must have their own separate policy and car.

Also, per-mile pricing is available through their Flexmile program, but this only applies to Oregon drivers.

This program gives customers the same service regular customers receive, but without the base cost.

Finally, it's important to note fees that come with Amica's auto insurance.

An $8 service fee is charged every installment after the first bill, while a $29 return item fee is charged when payments are returned as unpayable by a bank.

Finally, if the policy falls under cancellation status, customers are also charged a $29 fee.

Amica is another scam insurance provider. They will quote you a price that seems reasonable, but they will not allow you to pay the full annual premium, you can pay 6 months worth at most. Five months later they will send you your new premium and guess what . . . the price is up between 20-25%! We're mid-sixties, $1.5M home and 3 cars, never had a claim on any of them and no auto moving violations (i.e.; an insurance provider's perfect client), with a bundled policy for our home, autos, and umbrella (yep, everything they recommend) and still they feel it is appropriate to screw us. When asked why the accented gentleman says 'costs are going up'. We don't dispute that, but we... Read More
