Overall Rating: 3.9 / 5 (Very good)

Mercury offers the standard suite of coverage and discounts as do most of their competitors in the industry.

However, they have received lower-than-average average ratings from several third-party financial and customer-centric institutions. We consider it best to evaluate and thoroughly research Mercury's quotes, in comparison with other offers, before making a final decision.

Mercury Coverage

Basic Coverage

  • Bodily Injury Liability
  • Property Damage Liability
  • Collision
  • Comprehensive
  • Personal Injury

Coverage - 4 / 5

Mercury’s coverage options are in line with what most other companies offer.

These include bodily injury liability, underinsured motorist protection, collision, and comprehensive coverage. The company doesn't offer any additional benefits, unlike many of its competitors.

*The NAIC Car Insurance complaint ratio (in this case 0.73) compares a company’s performance to other companies in the market. The median complaint ratio across all car insurance companies is 1. A score below 1 means the company received fewer than the expected number of complaints. A score above 1 means the company received a more than the expected number of complaints.

Claims Satisfaction & Customer Experience - 3.8 / 5

Mercury has a commendable .73 complaint ratio, as well as an A+ Better Business Bureau rating. Unfortunately, the latter is contradicted by their twenty negative reviews.

Financial Strength - 4 / 5

Mercury does underwrite its own policies, but its low marketshare percentage and total annual premiums put its financial stability in doubt.

It is rated Baa2 with Moody's and aa- with AM Best, both of which are lower than average scores, and an additional reason for concern.

Pricing & Discounts

Pricing & Discounts - 4.3 / 5

Insofar as pricing is concerned, Mercury’s discount options are relatively basic.

As is typical for the industry, Mercury offers them for multiple cars, bundled policies, good students, safe drivers, and cars with anti-theft devices. They also offer certain rebates for member of certain organizations.

Mercury Ins denied to pay anything after hit my car on the site. Patrick Deshaw did the worst ever job. Mercury was not honest not trustworthy not sincere. Mercury takes money but doesn't want to take responsibility. Don't buy their insurance

Horrible some guy hits me, while backing out of a parking spot, damages my rear passenger side and then he says he didn’t hit me, refuses to exchange information with me. I had to get a police report and take a pic of his license plate and Mercury takes his side. SHAME ON YOU MERCURY. You suck!!! Claims Department is no Good.

Mercury does simply collect premiums. Be prepared to be denied when place a claim. Mercury will find any possible means to deny your claims. It sad that there is no investigations to judge behaviours of this company

We were insured with Mercury for years. When my son was killed in an auto accident they refused to pay for his vehicle that was fully covered and the medical coverage that was on the policy. We had a copy of the policy show this coverage including all paid receipts. We spoke with the claims representatives who were not only unhelpful but we found to be the most uncompassionate people I have dealt with. Shocked and in pain we had no energy to deal with this . The process of reporting this claim was horrible. We received the worst experience ever in our 32 years of driving and Insuring. Run Run Run away not worth the paper they print on!!!

While I have Mercury, all the car accidents have to be paid by my side, it do not matter who's hit whom, even on my right to go it's my fault.
