Humana Dental Insurance Review

Humana is one of the country's largest providers of dental insurance. They provide dental insurance for individuals, groups and employers. There are no pre-certification requirements and a co-payment option is offered.

What's included with Humana Dental?

HumanaOne Dental Preventive Plus

This dental PPO plan offers low deductibles, no copayments, and provides 100% coverage for many preventive procedures. This plan does not require a dentist selection.

HumanaOne Dental Value plan (C550 and HI215)

These dental prepaid plans have low copayments for many dental procedures and no waiting periods. Both plans require you to select a primary dentist.

HumanaOne Loyalty Plus Plan

This dental plan rewards members for loyalty by increasing benefits from years one to three, with increasing coverage on services like routine exams, root canals and crowns, a one-time deductible for as long as you are on the plan, and no copayments or waiting periods. You can go to the dentist you prefer with the comfort of knowing this plan pays the same percentage of the cost no matter which dentist you visit.

HumanaOne Simple Choice Plan

This dental plan is simple to understand with fixed costs for services and no deductibles. You are not required to select a dentist for enrollment, and you have the choice of the general dentist you prefer from over 170,000 providers in the HumanaOne Dental Simple Choice network.

My Humana Benefit Summary says they pay 80% of fillings for amalgam and composite, but declined to pay the composite filling. The proceeds to say it was only for certain teeth, although it does not mention any limitations and/or exclusions under the benefit summary. Thiefs!

I live in Tampa, Florida, and I have been on the Humana Dental Plan HI215 Plan for 6 years!!! This plan has a monthly premium of only $12.99/mo and I go twice a year for cleanings and exams. I pay a $15 Co-Pay each time. All of my x-rays are: No Charge!!! I selected an In-Network Humana Dental Provider close to my home. I receive a 25% discount if I go to a Specialist, like periodontitis, gum disease, endodontist, root canals and I have had several crowns. If you need a great dental plan and live in Florida, this is the one!!!

This is the WORST DENTAL PLAN IN ALL MY 40 YEARS OF DENTAL COVERAGE. I suggest anyone looking for dental insurance find an alternative as this is a substandard portion of Humana. I have submitted claims over a year ago and have not received an explanation as to why they have not processed the 4-claims I currently have in their system. That is over $1,700 in fees I had to pay before leaving the dentists office with no satisfaction until today after I filed a complaint to review their position I was finally given the results for a tooth extraction AFTER A FULL DENIAL I THEN APPEALED. The procedure cost me $406.25 they are claiming that they are only responsible for $84.96 (16.41%) and my... Read More

Terrible coverage. Horribly out of date website. I finally called the 800 toll-free number and twice was given a provider that did not take their insurance. I cannot wait until my companies open season comes along again so I can drop this terrible provider. A total waste of my money!

The dental insurance covers basically nothing even with the extra higher insurance which I pay extra for.

Why are the dental insurance companies receiving 3-5 stars if the consumers are rating them 0-1 stars? Wow I have never been so confused about trying to get dental insurance! I am doing my homework on all of the dental insurance companies my regular dentist accepts. All 5 dental insurance plans have very poor reviews from real patients on this Consumer Advocate website. I am so thankful to everyone on this post that's shared their experiences. I am not going to bother with the expensive plans even though I need 2 crowns and 1 root canal. I am grateful to you all for helping me make this choice; to save money! I plan to get Care Credit for the expensive work I need done. My dentist... Read More

Since so many or these reviews are negative, why does Humana Dental have a nearly +5 rating? As far as I'm concerned they are horrid, and despite my canceling service with them, they continue to bother me with snail mail!!! And phoning doesn't work cuz you can't get hold of anyone who can remove you from their mailing list! Human Ugh. YOU ARE THE WORSE!!!

I was on the phone with them for 2 hours, at the beginning of each month for 3 months, trying to get on my Dentists list. Each time I was assured, the next month would be fixed, because they saw the issue with the previous month. On the 4th month, I called them to cancel, they said, of course. Just today, (what would be the fifth month) they send me a letter saying my payment did not go through(I cancelled the credit card number I was using to pay them, expecting something like this). Their letter said, that I could just mail in my payment. These are the types of companies that terrify me, they can just say whatever they want when they are on the phone, and you have very little... I'm still on hold, 40 minutes and I'm calling someone who called me. I'm trying to work, however, I'm stuck on the phone waiting for your employees to answer the phone. Our office is no longer going to accept this insurance because of how difficult the company is to work with.

Company doesn't pay claims. Company doesn't answer the phone (when they do they are people who don't speak clear English and the connection is poor). No matter what question I have I never seem to be in the correct department and cannot call this company without spending at least an hour on the phone, of this hour I spend 45 minutes on hold or TRANSFERRED. Employees don't know anything about insurance and have a million excuses for everything. Pay your claims.
