Ambetter is a health insurance company owned by the Centene Corporation, which is a multi-national healthcare company that provides programs and services to under-insured and uninsured individuals. Ambetter offers customers affordable health care plans in 14 states including Arkansas, Arizona, Georgia, Florida, Indiana, and Nevada, among others.

Ambetter is Centene Corporation’s option for a health insurance marketplace, so it’s intended for individuals who lack health insurance, and possibly don’t qualify for traditional plans.

What’s Included in Ambetter’s Health Insurance Plans?

Ambetter health insurance plans offer prescription coverage, mental and behavioral health services, integrated care management, maternity and newborn care, 24/7 nurse advice line, Ambetter Telehealth, My Health Pays Rewards, and optional vision and dental coverage for adults.

The company has three plan options to choose from: Ambetter Essential Care, Ambetter Balanced Care, and Ambetter Secure Care, which are classified as bronze, silver, and gold, respectively.

The Ambetter Essential Care offers lower monthly premium payments, but higher out-of-pocket expenses, the Ambetter Balanced Care offers the best balance between monthly premium payments and out-of-pocket expenses, and the Ambetter Secure Care has higher monthly premium payments, but limits your out-of-pocket expenses.

Each plan has a different type of coverage and payment, but all of them include essential health benefits such as emergency services, hospitalization. outpatient or ambulatory services, preventive and wellness services, maternity and newborn care, pediatric services, mental health and substance abuse services, and laboratory services, among others.

Overall, Ambetter offers flexible healthcare options that fit different budgets and needs, with a few perks like the company’s My Health Pays Rewards, which allows customers to pay for medical expenses with the money they earn through the program, a 24/7 nurse advice line, and Ambetter Telehealth, which provides 24/7 phone or video access to in-network providers for non-emergency health issues. Having said that, Ambetter health insurance also has its drawbacks, like the fact that it’s only available in 15 states, you must sign up during the open enrollment period, and that the company may have stricter requirements to qualify than other traditional insurance companies, so customers should keep this in mind before purchasing.

This is the WORST insurance company ever for ACA insurance! I'd give zero stars if I was able! (I have a policy in IL). I went in for preventative care and then they won't pay! Called their customer service, numerous times, which is located in the Philippines, and they actually have roosters crowing in the background. I am not the only person this has happened to. I hate to see what would happen if I ended up in the hospital. The only reason I took this insurance is because I have numerous health issues, but am considering going without. Save my premium and then I'd have money to pay all the doctors and meds myself.

THE WORST. I would give this company zero stars if I could. For five months, I've been trying to get a reimbursement for a medical bill that was out of network. They lost the reimbursement application the first time, and I had to file a grievance. Then when I called back there was no documentation the grievance was even filed. Meanwhile, I submitted another reimbursement application a second time, and received a letter from Ambetter that I would need to submit another (third) application because we moved 6 weeks ago and the address they had on file was our old one. Worst company. Customer service person was very unpleasant and unprofessional I had to repeat every sentence twice. He was forgetting account number and asking again and again. Then he put me on a hold saying I am going to research the account and come back. I was waiting over 10 minutes like a fool for his reply. Finally the phone line got disconnected. It happens only if one person disconnect the line. He never called me back also. I pay $ 1075 a month for my primum and get this 3rd class customer service. I am going to switch and look for another provider.

Absolutely the worst insurance company on the planet. I have been trying to get one simple issue settled for months, and I cannot even get a supervisor on the phone. I have a trail of emails that have gone unanswered from these clowns. I am paying $735 per month for insurance that they are doing everything in their power from preventing me from using. I have a horrific back issue where I cannot walk or stand for more than five minutes and I cannot get care. Horrible customer service. Many physicians listed on the Ambetter website do not even accept Ambetter Insurance. Something as simple as a Primary Care Physician. I've called the first 4 listed on the Ambetter Website only to be told they do not accept the insurance.

Arizona Complete Health by Ambetter should be shutdown!! They recently turned my wife down for an MRI of her back that she desperately needs. They said she needed to do Physical Therapy for 6 weeks, which she did. They turned her down again! You'll NEVER guess what type of Doctor reviewed her case to determine if she needed an MRI ?? You're probably thinking it's a Doctor with a background in Orthopaedics, Nuclear Medicine, Radiology, Back Surgery, etc. WRONG!! The Doctor who reviewed my wife's case has a specialty in Pediatrics! I recently retired and knew that I would need an "Obama Plan" until I turned 65, so unfortunately I get stuck. I signed up with my advisor, in early February and I received a bill for my first month premium for March, yet I haven't received my card or welcome packet with benefits, etc. I went on the website to pay my bill, yet I wasn't able to, because they couldn't find me in their system. It's real interesting that I'm looking at the bill and payment coupon and my Member ID number, yet I couldn't pay online after 12 attempts using my Member ID and SS #. I purchased a policy with AmBetter Complete Health for my family through the Marketplace, which was to start on Jan 1st, 2023. I paid my first premium of nearly $1.2k, almost two weeks in advance of the due date. I received an email confirmation of the payment, so thought I was set. Two weeks later, I logged into my account on January 2nd, since I had not yet received ID cards or any correspondence from AmBetter regarding my policy. I saw that the status of my account was mark "suspended", due to non-payment. Ambetter lists practitioners on website as being part of their Network, then when you ACTUALLY CALL these practices/doctors, the actually DO NOT participate in Ambetter's network at all. I called SIX different doctors' offices ( one Internal Medicine doctor and 5 different Orthopedists) that were listed on their site and NONE of them participated in the Ambetter Network! Secondly, whenever you call customer service, you get agents from non English speaking countries who (a) have very mediocre command of the English language, (b )have limited communication skills and are often very difficult to understand, therefore they are not very effective at assisting you at all.
