How much does Xfinity cost?

Contract/Subscription Flexibility - 2.8 / 5

With Xfinity Home Secure, contracts run for two years and renew on a monthly basis after that. Xfinity offers a base monitoring package at $29.99 per month for the first year and then it's $39.95 a month for the second year of the contract. Also, each camera you add to your plan costs $9.99 a month. Customers can return the equipment and cancel without fees within 30 days of signing your contract, but those who would like to cancel early will have to pay a hefty fee. Furthermore, this contract can change and can require costly upgrades. Also, another problem might be that homeowners might find if difficult to cancel other Comcast services while they are connected to Xfinity Home Security, leading to other cost issues.

Xfinity Reputation

Reputation - 2 / 5

Xfinity Home Security offers customer service via live chat and phone. On social media, customers can contact ComcastCares, a dedicated customer service Twitter profile, or Xfinity on Facebook for assistance. However, customers must be aware that Comcast Corporation has been under recent scrutiny due to shady customer service and pricing. On top of Comcast's poor reputation with customers, it's the company's transgressions that are most concerning to legal experts. We recommend that consumers conduct they own research about Xfinity—and its parent company— before making a final decision.

Xfinity Summary

In Conclusion

Xfinity Home Security is the trademark name for Comcast Cable Systems. Xfinity provides a total home security system and automation solution. With this system, homeowners can look after their home, family, and valuables from anywhere using their computer, tablet or smartphone.

As for equipment, the base package includes a touch screen control panel, three door window sensors, a motion sensor, and one wireless keypad. Customers get a lifetime warranty on the equipment, but as with many home security systems, the cost increases when you purchase add-ons or customize your system to include features like smoke monitoring, live video monitoring, and automated lighting. Plus, you can control each remotely with the Xfinity Home App.

Xfinity does have a proprietary video camera. You can use the camera to check the live feed with your regular subscription but if you want to record the video its $9.95 per month, per camera, which can add up pretty quick. As for home automation, certain products integrate with your Xfinity system, it all depends on which one you get.

Regarding pricing and contracts, there is a basic home security package that starts at $29.99 a month for the first 12 months and then $39.95 for the second 12 months for a 24-month contract. There may be discounts for existing Comcast customers. Professional installation is required and is a $50 installation fee. Also, you should know that there is a 30-day return policy and early termination fees apply after that.

Xfinity—like its parent company Comcast—doesn’t have great customer reviews. If you need to contact customer service, we recommend that you use the live chat instead of the phone. The bottom line is that Xfinity Home Security is a good home security system. Yes, their cost can add up, but they are still competitive, and if you already got compatible smart home devices and are looking for an app to control them all, Xfinity Home is an easy answer.
