Overall Rating: 4.9 / 5 (Excellent)

Select Home Warranty’s lack of a term maximum is very attractive, especially when considering their comparatively generous appliance and system limits.

They do have a waiting period for service and require maintenance records, which can be off-putting to some customers. Select is an excellent choice for customers who value savings and flexibility.

I had looked at a lot of home warranties before I contracted with select home warranty. The price for the contract discounted because I paid for a year, which was a savings, and the deductible is lower than I had with a previous home warranty. I filed a claim recently and the repair service who was dispatched was quick to respond. The repair was quickly approved by select and I’m waiting for parts and the final repair but my interactions thus far with Select have been very professional and responsive.

Filing the claim for a garage door opener problem was extremely easy.

Completely awful to work with. I requested an electrician to look at a loss of power wiring issue, and they tried to send out an HVAC company to "change an outlet". When they finally did send an electrician, they came unprepared without the proper tools to diagnose the issue so I let them use mine. They ultimately diagnosed it to be the same problem I concluded, fortunately with my help...so who knows if it's really the issue. I've now been waiting for 6 days for them to "estimate what I can spend" to get it fixed. Their call-center to check the status of a claim is completely useless as they can provide no clarity and read from a script. As soon as I get this issue fixed I'm... Read More

We sustained a covered loss to our heating system 52 days after the contract started. Submitted a claim and received no callback. To date, we had to call select for any updates on the claim. Noticed the claim reimbursement had not been received after 30 days of submission. They denied the claim stating it was within 30 day waiting period. Obviously it is not and the waiting period would have been excluded because we had a carryover policy that ended 6 days after this policy started with HSA. They refused to allow us to talk to a manager or their attorney to resolve the claim, despite our proof in the contract that we were past the waiting period and had prior coverage that would waive the... I seriously can't understand how anybody could give this company a positive review. We have tried using them for two different items so far that are absolutely covered according to the policy. This time the service technician came out to inspect a clothes dryer, and determined that it needs an igniter. A part that costs about $35. According to the $799 policy that we bought, Washers & Dryers are covered. We have spent hours arguing with them, as they ask us to refer to some paragraph of our policy which they claim says they don't install parts. What the hell are they covering in this case? How do you repair an appliance if you don't install a part? I don't see that anywhere in my policy.... Read More

Select Home Warranty sales agents have grotesquely misrepresented, falsely advertised, and bait-and-switched on the presentation of the coverage of their home warranties. Before buying policies from them, I asked very direct questions about coverage amounts and limitations, on several occasions and with several different sales agents. I was assured that we would have good and timely coverage when we needed it. I asked “if I have a big problem, what is the maximum coverage I can expect to receive?” To this question, I was told “$11,000 annual aggregate limit”. I asked “What about for one particular item?”, and they said “We get discounted labor from our technicians. Whatever the problem is,... Read More

I have had a claim in for a backed up sewer line for over a week now. There was an appointment scheduled for 2/3 with plumber that not only serviced my ZIP code but had worked on my home in the past, but Select Home Warranty has an internal policy that lets them cancel appointments and reschedule them to providers they know (I and the other plumbing company have made them aware of this issue numerous times) doesn't service my area. Anyone that states that Select Home Warranty did anything for them in less than 24 hours is a Select Home Warranty bought reviewer. Their internal policies are such that no matter what the issue is their dispatch department won't look at the request until the... Read More

TOTAL sham and rude/uneducated claims personnel! Our integrated hot water/boiler heating system was dumping water in our basement. None of "their" technicians were available to service our system so they told us we could select someone else ($100 maximum) to assess the problem and then we could call in for approval. They hung up on our technician after he spoke with them at great length trying to explain to a person who couldn't even understand the basic concept of $1,255 what the issues were. Then told us that the ENTIRE claim was denied because one of the components (expansion tank) that they deemed "not a part of the hot water system" was among the items needing to be replaced. Not...
