Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

I bought Petplan for 2 cats. All seemed good...until I put in a claim for $113. That means, after the $100 deductible, they would pay 80%, which equals $10.40. They fought me for days (email), asking for documents that do not exist. They said they will send my claim to a "review specialist"...after which I received a letter in the mail denying my claim. And all this for 10 bucks?!! I cancelled them. Thankfully, I only paid for 2 months before finding out how bad they are. Just another insurance scam company that wants to collect, but not pay out. Don't waste your money.

Pet plan used to be a great pet insurance provider, but I can't say that anymore. I got a notice that they switched to a new underwriter and my premium increased by 50%. To add insult to injury, they also decided to charge me the increased price, 3X in a 1 month period as part of the "billing system transition." They charged me all of these increased fees before the deadline even passed that THEY set on making a decision on the new policy and premiums. I guess they made that decision for me. NO THANKS! I've cancelled my policy and will be switching to Nationwide. Nationwide offers better coverage for a much better rate overall. Do yourself a favor a cross Pet Plan off the list. They're no... I've had a policy with PetPlan for three years. I was please with the rates and customer service; the claims were paid in a timely manner with very little resistance. There were some limits to the plan but they were within reason. The worst part was the 'per incident, per term year' charge and the yearly increase. I just got a letter that PetPlan has changed underwriters. While there were SOME improvements in the policy terms (no term limits per incident), the annual policy charge increased by approx. $60 per year, and the PER INCIDENT, PER YEAR went up by some 120% (from $200 to $500). Also, my copay went from 90% covered to 80% covered. To keep my current PER INCIDENT deductible of... Read More

VPI was poor until Nationwide took over and now it is terrific! I moved to Petplan when I was on VPI, and made a terrrible choice by doing so. They have denied EVERY claim I have ever submitted with no substantiated reason that was ever correct. I am back with Nationwide with all three of my dogs!

I have been on PetPlan for just about a year. I did extensive research before choosing PetPlan. I went with it over HealthyPaws because I thought PetPlan was more comprehensive. I did this despite PetPlan already costing $40 more a month then HealthyPaws to insure my 10 year old terrier. I knew that PetPlan had per incident deductibles, but I incorrectly thought that meant through the life of my dog being insured by PetPlan; the deductibles reset every year. I've taken my dog to the vet three times this year for a urinary issue, a mass on his chest, and a lesion on his foot. Each of those visits cost less than my deductible so I've spent close to $1000 on vet bills, and PetPlan has paid... Read More

UNETHICAL PRACTICES, DO NOT PURCHASE A PETPLAN POLICY! I purchased a Petplan insurance policy in February 2016 at the cost of $86.05 per month. I haven't needed to use it until August 2016 which means they have already collected $688.40 of my money for a policy that they haven't paid out a dime on. My dog has an unidentified lump on her wrist which was noted by the vet prior to purchasing the Petplan policy. What this means is that the veterinarian noted in the patient log to have existed(one line), but it was never tested on or diagnosed to be a condition. Despite it having gone undiagnosed Petplan chose to deny a pre-authorization to have the lump tested and removed. The reason for... Read More

I'm so thankful I have Petplan insurance for my dogs. If it wasn't for Petplan, I wouldn't be able to afford the specialty veterinary care that has kept my dog alive and doing well. After a few trips to the emergency room, overnight stays, routine blood panels, medications, and specialty follow up vet visits, the bills are INSANE. I would have gone into debt paying for his bills of it weren't for Petplan. They process the claims so quickly and make sure I get my reimbursement check as fast as possible because they know how difficult it is to outlay large amount of money for vet bills over and over again. Thanks to petplan, I can afford to take care of my dog. They saved my little... Read More

Don't bother with this pet insurance. They cover very little at a very high premium cost and a deductible for every event. The disallowed a claim for having emergency teeth pulling due to an abscess and claim it is pre-existing because the plaque on the teeth! Even though his records showed he almost died 4 years ago from having his teeth cleaned and the vets wouldn't do it again unless it was an absolute emergency! I chose the 80% coverage and the cost was still exorbitant. Changed to Nationwide, 90% coverage a maximum annual deductible and they cover exam fees, Cancer, Dental diseases, vaccinations, heartworm, dental cleaning, and on and on for less than I was paying at Pet Plan.... I am now on my third policy year with PetPlan. Axel, my lab mix, has been hit by a car, ripped his leg open running in the woods, and had an **bloody** awful urinary tract infection. Each time, I have had smooth dealing with PetPlan. There claims process was navigated from their app. All I did was take pictures of the paperwork and upload it and a few weeks later, each time, I was sent a reimbursement check. In addition, I had a second dog on my policy that was transferred to a new policy owner, and Kim, a PetPlan happiness manager, they made that process go really smoothly, thank you.
