Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

Benefit Limits - 5 / 5

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

I adopted a cat 5 months ago and he was completely healthy until last week. He had a problem with his urinary tract. When it was absolutely dire to have him operated on pet plan wouldn't set up pre authorization and I had to put him down. I lost my little buddy forever because an insurance company couldn't provide insurance in an emergency situation. Never deal with these people. They wouldn't even reimburse the cost of euthanization. I'm now left empty hearted and full of resentment towards them. If you value the life of your pet, never obtain this insurance.

Don't use petplan. What they don't tell you about the "annual deductible" is it is per illness. So if you bring in your pet for a rash that's a deductible and then you bring them in for an ear infection, that's another deductible. All to start over again the next year. OH and the best part is my rates went up more than 50% the second year.

This is a horrible company. I was concerned when they changed their terms of service and contacted customer service. I was assured of the process I followed and reimbursement would follow. They denied the claim and justified it on the changes I was specifically told wouldn't impact my pet. When I appealed I was told a contract was binding, and then told there is no requirement to read, or acknowledge the contract with a signature. The the only acknowledgement they have is a log of my contact with customer service. I have tried to allow them to behave ethically and honor the commitments of their employees, but they continue to deny coverage. Please make sure you submit each and every... Read More

Shame on you and this company. As a consumer and an animal lover this company is not worthy of pursuing. It seems you have made much money and have extended very little coverage to the consumers who have paid every month thinking this was protection for their beloved pets. Most consumers feel that their pets are like family members. You bamboozled money out of folks and let down many many many consumers. Shame! Shame on this company.

My West Highland White Terrier, was insured with PetPlan for many years. At age 2 1/2 she had surgery for luxating patellas and crashed. After several months of trying to figure out what was going on, she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that resulted in IBD and arthritis. We were so happy to have PetPlan to help us keep her healthy and happy. As she aged her issues necessitated a lot of medical care including physical therapy to keep her muscles from atrophying. PetPlan continued to be there to cover her many expenses. Prior to her 14 th birthday they let us down in a shocking change in coverage. The PetPlan policy we paid for had unlimited coverage, $100 dedicate per... Read More

I paid $29 a month for almost a year. When I did take my cat for vaccinations and exam, I was told it was not covered. AARP should not suggest this company to seniors. I can still work but many seniors cannot. Petplan is a rip-off.

Terrible liars... you must read the fine print!... they do not cover a one time annual deductible .. it is for EACh condition.... the wait is well over thirty days... complete waste of money . You are better off putting the cash is your drawer and saving it... I give it a negative if I could

If you try to put a claim in they do everything in their power not to pay. My dog had surgery and need to go to ER per his regular vet's instructions less than 48 hours later. He was having complications due to surgery/medications his primary vet and I believed. Petplan insists that since they found a UTI in addition to side effects from post-surgery meds that the deductible must be met again. It is all tied together as were the tests but again they are screwing their customers. If my dog was not so old I would change companies. For those of you who have not started with this company USE ANOTHER COMPANY. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY.

Had them for 2 years never used it. Got the 90% coverage dog went blind had the $6000 surgery filled claim and was denied. Modern day snake oil salesmen only its paper and a promise. They hide behind small print and what is illegal insurance tactics for people in their policies and coverage. Save your money ask friends and family for help start a go fund me. Don't waste your money

I agree with Sondra S Comment below. Been with Petplan for about 14 years and they got a new underwrite a few years ago. My 14 year old Havanese recently had his gall bladder removed. There were alot of complications due to his age and he nearly died, but he is with me today. He ran up a $7000 vet bill over a few months. I just received his renewal letter and Petplan raised his rate from $1643 to $3660. They say they will never cancel you, but they will raise your premium attempting to force you to cancel it. They are only good for people who only have healthy pets. Ask about terms and conditions and if they have the right to change your coverage or raise your premium based on... Read More
