Breakdown

Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

Benefit Limits

Benefit Limits - 5 / 5

Fetch's maximum annual payouts can range from $5,000 to unlimited.

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Maximum Percent Reimbursement

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

We are customers of Healthy Paws and I am less than impressed with their service. We started with Healthy Paws last year and this year our five year old dog had some x-rays that determined that she had early stage arthritis. When I submitted my bill for Healthy Paws to pay they determined through looking over her vet records that this was a pre existing condition and they refused to pay a dime. The vet records stated on two occasions that had occurred one to two years previously that the vet had noted pain in her leg due to playing too hard. No mention was ever made of arthritis in the vets notes. She wasn’t officially diagnosed with arthritis until after the x-rays. What a rip off .

Hi Lisa, I'm sorry you are having a bad experience with your current provider. Please note your review for Healthy Paws was incorrectly posted here on Petplan's profile.

Originally I could not say enough about them. Since 2017, they changed the terms and conditions unbeknownst to the holder online and claim the changes must have gone to your "spam folder" Do not buy insurance from this company!!!!!!!! They will find any excuse to not honor the claim nor refund the dues.

As another commentor said, this isn't what I signed up for. When I signed on the dotted line I didn't expect my deductible to more than double and my premium to go sky high. They say it's because they had to change insurance underwriters, I say it's because they're greedy and could care less about the animals. For me, I think a Carecredit card is a good option, if you have decent credit maybe it is for you, too. But please DO NOT sign up with Pet Plan. Check out all the other companies and options, do your due diligence. You're better off just socking away some money or getting a low interest credit card because Petplan is a farce. Oh and they only cover ONE condition per deductible.... Read More

Company is very quick to sign up pet owners without full information provided. Phone reps do not followup and are unfamiliar with what information they need to process a claim. Claims sit out there for weeks, and the reps are not able to tell you what they need to process the claim. They do not followup with vets nor policy owners. No statements or receipts are provided for payments to them. Lots of excuses as to why claims have not been processed. Claims covered in one month are not covered the next for the same illness. The length of time it takes to process a claim, the numerous phone calls to them, the ambiguous information provided makes it impossible to make timely and... Read More

I am a long time customer. They were good for the first vet problem but since then they have continually said that things don't count. My dog had lumps on her legs and the vet wanted to make sure it was not cancer. The bill was $700 and they paid me $55. They claim to charge $300 per incident and then 80%. This is not either. I am very disappointed at a time when I really needed the help.

Hi Cathy, thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. I'm sorry to hear you're unhappy with your recent claim experience and can understand your frustration with needing to meet a deductible. All coverable Petplan claims are assessed at your chosen reimbursement rate and once your deductible is met you are then reimbursed. I'd be happy to go into more detail with your claim, please email us at socialmedia@gopetplan.com and I can help you further.

Like others commenting, I feel OetPlan has changed are now denying claims that previously they wouldn't, they are no longer timely responding to claims and there is a shift after getting a new underwriter and CEO. They are more concentrated on profit and screwing their long time customers. I'm going to cancel my 6 plans and going somewhere else.

Be really careful. They are not upfront about what is covered and what isn't. The coverage documentation is general, not specific to your pet. If your pet had a broken leg before the insurance started, then broken legs will not be covered for one year. If your pet had an ear infection before the plan, your pet will not be covered for infections for one year - unless of course your pet has another infection diagnosed within that year, then you have to wait another full year to be covered. Does your pet have cancer? - Well your vet notes mentioned lethargy 10 years ago for something unrelated and that's a symptom of cancer, therefore cancer is a pre-existing condition and your claim is... Don't believe the 30 day claim payment. It is going on 2 months since I filed the first claim after paying premiums for 8 years. They claimed they never received the documents from my vet even though my vet had a confirmation that the fax went through. The documents were resent and we are still waiting for reimbursement. On top of this, they raised my renewal premium from the original quote by over $100! Will not be renewing with them

Do not get this insurance! They are crooks. They deny Everything. Despite me calling multiple times asking how this insurence worked, and what I needed to do to make sure things for my dog were covered, they never explained anything, they kept telling me to refer to the very long list of rules and regulations that are so general that allow them to then deny everything later on. My 9 year old dog was noted to have plaque on his teeth at a wellness visit, which they then said they won’t cover his tooth extraction 6 months later because plaque had been noted prior, despite the vet saying his teeth were fine 6 months ago. So unless you plan to take your dog to a wellness exam every month I... Read More

Appalling . We were informed they had no time limit on claims, even though their policy states 90 days after policy end, they said they didn't stand by this . Two months ago they changed their mind and now are refusing everything not filed within this time limit. We have been paying over $500 a month for years for three dogs What blatant cheats!!
