Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

We were told by friends that it’s not worth getting pet insurance, but I am here to prove them wrong! We are so thankful to have picked Healthy Paws as the insurance company for our dog. They have been covering everything they promised so far and their customer service is beyond our expectation! We always get fast response from their team with care and clear explanations, and reimbursement checks always arrived within a week or two. I love how I can have a peace of mind with an active dog and have already referred them to a lot of my friends. Please keep up the good work! Signing up for Healthy Paws pet insurance was one of the best decision I have ever made. I have all 3 of my dogs insured with them. One of my dogs has been so sickly and ended up with so many chronic conditions, without Healthy Paws, she would no longer be with us. The piece of mind, that you get...knowing that if anything happens, you can afford to take your dog to the best place and do any kind of diagnostics or therapy necessary to save their life, or make it better... that is just incredible. I can't say enough great things about Healthy Paws pet insurance. Yeah, yeah, you are probably rolling your eyes about the mention of pet insurance, but it has literally given Maisy her life back pain free and saved our wallets. Maisy has hip and elbow dysplasia and she recently had surgery her elbow. This was almost a $6,000 surgery. If it wasn't for Healthy Paws, I would have had to wait to save money, but thank goodness I bought her pet insurance when I first got her. She is going to need a lifetime of care and I know I will be able to provide the best care I can because of Healthy Paws. Healthy Paws has been fabulous!  I have two yorkshire terriers and Healthy Paws covered most expense when they each unexpectedly got sick! Recently, when little Mac was sick, they immediately covered all expected expenses from his initial office visit (including testing and procedures), to his emergency surgery through his followups. Mr Weiss from Healthy Paws even called to check up on him a few weeks later. Such nice people and amazing service!

In our dog's short 8 years to date, she has had 3 leg surgeries, skin infections, urinary tract infections, an Addison's crisis where she was in a specialized hospital for a week to save her life, and now on medication for life. And yet, she is a very strong, sweet dog. Having her insured with Healthy Paws has saved her life and our financial ability to give her the care she needs and deserves. We have an annual deductible and pay for the office visits and regular shots; Healthy Paws pays 80% of the rest - all the tests, x-rays, surgeries, medications, etc. No questions asked. When we rescued our love-pug Lucy, we NEVER could have guessed what we had in store. Within the first 3 months, we had 4 different VERY expensive trips to the vet. She had consumed gum and chocolate. Simply the best, because it works! I have an English bulldog and everybody knows how they are prone to get health issues. My sweet puppy had his first eye surgery when he was only 6months. This was before Health Paws (unfortunately, sometimes we wait till something happens to make a move). Now he is 1 and 4 months and another eye surgery, but this time it's different than before. I was a bit unsure if they would say this was a pre-condition, so I called and they said, again, if it's unrelated, we'll cover.! And that's exactly what happened! I have a purebred Newfoundland. The third from a reputable breeder. No problems with the other two in their lifetime. I bought pet insurance this time because my daughter suggested it is a good idea for any new puppy. My puppy was four months old when she started limping. She had elbow dysplasia in both elbows and it required surgery. Not only was everyone at Healthy Paws supportive and sympathetic, but they didn't interrogate me or make it difficult to file for coverage for the surgery. They have been amazing and I cannot say enough about their support. It has proven to be worth every cent for the monthly premiums. It has literally saved me financially with this unexpected problem.
