Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

Definitely would not recommend Healthy Paws. The customer service was beyond awful. They canceled my pets policy claiming a payment did not go through which I did not find out until I was investigating a claim i'd placed. No one reached out to me to correct the error and now they are requiring that my dog be placed back on a 15 day waiting period although they are reading her policy over the phone and verbalized that she does not have a preexisting condition. If you care so much about the health of your clients loved animals you should show that instead of just collecting money like all other insurance institutions. Awful. Healthy Paws is the best! My dog had an unexpected digestion problem that caused bloody puddles on the floor. I immediately took her to the vet. She had to spend the night at the pet hospital. I submitted a claim for my dog via their website and it was immediately processed. I was reimbursed 90% of the vet and pet hospital fees within 10 days. The reimbursement amount depends on what you select. I also received an email from Tim Weiss to see how my dog was doing. I highly recommend Healthy Paws for your pet's needs. My husband is glad I talked him into getting the insurance.

I purchased Healthy Paws insurance a couple of years ago for my young Labrador. He was so wild I thought he was an accident waiting to happen! He hasn't had any accidents but he has had some ear infections and most recently a growth removed from his rear hock. I submit my claims and they are paid within a week. Their customer service is very helpful and friendly. After Willie's surgery they even sent me emails to see how he was doing. So far I've been very pleased with the company and it's processes as a whole. I couldn't be happier with their coverage.

We researched many other companies before choosing Healthy Paws. We have only had 1 experience so far, but we could not be more pleased. Our claim was taken care of quickly and professionally. They not only took care of the administrative issues promptly, but checked on our pet periodically after her procedure. They seem truly concerned with the care of your pet.

Snickers had two claims in one year. They covered 90% minus the deductible and dr exam as expected. Love this insurance. Minor raise in premium this next year. I don't worry when or if she gets sick. Thanks healthy paws.

I've had Healthy Paws since my frenchie was 1 month old and they have consistently provided excellent service. Their insurance payouts are just as described and it's always been very clear to me what is covered (emergencies and conditions developed during policy length) and what is not (preventative care and vaccinations). This year my pup (3.5 years) had to have a major surgery on his back and during this extremely stressful time, I was happy to have healthy paws on my side as I knew I could focus on the important part of taking care of him vs stressing out over medical bills.

Healthy Paws Pet Insurance is amazing!! My black lab Lucy has had problems with her knees since she was a puppy. She has had 3 surgeries to try and correct the problems. Healthy Paws has been a life saver for us. Their customer service is great. It's very easy to submit a claim and your claim is processed very quickly and professionally. I would recommend them to anyone looking for pet insurance.

In December our cat required surgery to remove one of his kidneys which had cancer. It was a stressful time as multiple tests were required prior and his situation was grave. We had enrolled our cat about a year prior in Healthy Paws but had not filed a claim yet. When I contacted Healthy Paws they were compassionate and incredibly helpful. It's too bad they don't insure humans. Their response time for reimbursement was amazing as well. We began receiving checks in around one week! The best insurance. Great costumer service. They process claims so quick. We never had any issues. Our puppy spent 4 days in the hospital, after submitting claims, they check how was her recovery and how is she feeling now. They are great!!!!!

This company is anpleasurentomwork with. When our dog had to have emergency surgery, the bills were staggering. We wound up paying way less than the total bill because of Healthy Paws. We were reimbursed within two weeks and even got follow up emails to check on Macey's progress. They were quick to respond to questions and very helpful. I highly recommend this company for piece of mind regarding your pet's health.
