Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

I never write reviews for anything, but every pet parent should invest in Healthy Paws. Shortly after I adopted my first cat, I found out she had kidney disease as well as an underlying GI issue. She has been in and out of a specialty vet hospital for the past few years, and she recently had to get emergency surgery to insert devices to bypass her kidneys. Healthy Paws has covered every single bill without question, and they have unmatched customer service. Every claim I’ve submitted is completed quickly and the process is so simple. Healthy Paws has literally saved my cat’s life, because I would never have been able to afford her medical care on my own.

We brought home our very first puppy ever on June 29, 2019. Being new fur baby parents, we wanted to make sure that our little one would have access to the best medical care when needed. It was only a couple of weeks after we got him that he had problems with intestinal issues. I can't tell you how thankful we are that we had signed up with Healthy Paws Pet Insurance. Thanks to Healthy Paws for Quick Reimbursement; Surely a Big Help in an already Rough Time. I purchased pet insurance shortly after my then 7-mo old pup had a bout of throw-up/diarrhea combo and cost me a hefty $500+. At 4 yo, it’s been pretty uneventful until last April … It was emotional. I signed up for HealthyPaws in 2015 when I was gifted my pug mix Pumpkin at just a few weeks old. It was easy to sign up because the explanation of coverage is simple. In 2019, Pumpkin broke his tooth in a toy chewing accident. I immediately got him treated. After paying the vet, I submitted Pumpkin's medical records and vet expenses to HealthyPaws via their website (just two clicks to upload all of the documentation). HealthyPaws reviewed the claim and reimbursed the cost within two weeks (minus deductible and the exam fee). We have been so happy with Healthy Paws Pet Insurance. Our eight year old dog needed to have back surgery to repair a couple of bulging discs which caused weakness in his back legs. If we did not have pet insurance the surgery would not have been possible for our family. Our dog is doing wonderful and back to himself. Healthy Paws covered exactly what they defined in our insurance agreement for our dog. We were pleased with the ease of submitting documentation and the prompt decisions made on our claims. We would 100% recommend Healthy Paws Pet Insurance.

Healthy Paws is nothing short of amazing. We have a 1.5 year old chocolate lab who is our pride & joy. She is so healthy that we almost cancelled our insurance a few months back, thinking we wouldn't need it. Well, we were wrong. Unfortunately our dog tore her ACL and needed surgery which was incredibly expensive. We are so grateful for Healthy Paws because this cost was no where near what it would have been if we didn't have their insurance. Healthy paws has been amazing. They covered my pet for things I did not think they would cover such as Chiropractic, MRI's, ultrasounds, Acupuncture and Meds. I receive the check within a week. Recently my pet was hospitalized with pneumonia and they covered 90% minus the office consultant. In the last month, his bill was over $9600 and Healthy paws has paid the 90% no questions asked, other than the Vet bill. I have looked at several insurance companies side by side and hands down Healthy paws is the best. We love Healthy Paws! They have always been so easy to file a claim with and I have ALWAYS gotten reimbursed quickly by direct deposit! We have always used them for small things like allergy testing but recently my dog went through testing at a specialist for siezures. I thought for sure they would stall and need all kinds of further documentation before we could be reimbursed this time. However, I submitted the invoice on the app on a Tuesday and was reimbursed by direct deposit by Friday! All I got was an email asking how my dog was doing! I cannot say enough good things about Healthy Paws! They have been a Godsend!

I have had Healthy Paws for ten years for my three dachshunds. One had intestinal blockage surgery, and just recently my older guy had spinal surgery. Both times I could get my babies the treatment they needed without worry because even though I had to initially pay for the procedures up front, I had my reimbursements within ten days both times. I love this company and recommend them to every pet owner I know!!!!

We love Healthy Paws Pet Insurance and Foundation. Our sweet Rottweiler, Keeva, was welcomed into our family in early 2018. Our son and his wife had decided on pet insurance after a scary expensive event with their Labrador. His wife researched many companies and settled on Healthy Paws.
