Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

We are experienced pet parents, and experienced with medical procedures and insurance. Everything comes together in the best of the best with Healthypaws. We did not use much insurance for years since my dog was hale and hearty. Last spring she contracted cancer and we faced difficult decisions about how to balance quality of life, health care costs and love. Healthypaws was kind to us when I contacted them about her condition, helped us locate treatment options, and always processes the claims quickly. We have had an extra year of good life together we could not have afforded otherwise. I will never have a pet without Healthypaws as part of our family!

Copper did really well with both procedures, the hardest part was keeping him calm! We're just so happy we caught everything before there were more significant health consequences. We really appreciated the coverage and smooth claims process. As a veterinarian, I know the difference it makes in these situations. He's such a fun-loving and affectionate boy! We're so lucky to have him and to be able to keep him healthy. Thank you Healthy Paws for helping us!

My 3yo chi mix lost function in her hind legs in a span of 24 hours. When the specialist told me how much her surgery would cost, I did not hesitate one second because I new Healthy Paws would come through for her. I did not have to choose between a mortgage payment and my best friend's health! She is now fully recovered and back to driving me crazy!

I have had Healthy Paws insurance on three of my dogs for about 5 years now. Hank has had 2 ACL and one stomach surgery. Audrey has had 1 ACL surgery. Frankie is not allowed to get hurt. Healthy Paws has paid each bill quickly and without issue. Using Healthy Paws was one of the best decision I've ever made.

My French bulldog has had to have two back surgeries in two years. Not only has Healthy Paws been professional and quick in their processing of my claims they have truly been compassionate every time I have spoken with them in the phone and through email. Absolutely love them.

I am so grateful for Healthy Paws, they have an easy claim process and great coverage. When my dog had to have a tumor removed last month I would have been a totally mess bc I didn’t have the money for such an expensive procedure on my own. Since he was covered by Healthy Paws Pet Insurance, I could make the best choices for Lucky without stressing about money. My claim was processed quickly through the app without any questions and I received my reimbursement within a few weeks.

Healthy Paws is top quality. What is covered vs. not covered is laid out very clearly, which never leaves us guessing. Getting each of our dogs approved was a breeze, and the waiting period is short. Our claims are processed within a few days maximum, when the funds show up in our bank account. It is super easy to submit a claim by simply taking a picture of your receipts on your phone through the app - most recently I submitted a claim at 8AM, and the claim was completed same day - that's how fast they are. We have submitted many claims over the past 3 years and have never had to speak to a representative over the phone or ran into issues. The coverage is fantastic and we do not regret... Read More

When our fluffy heart ,Zula, was sick-the last thing on our minds was the inevitable arduous task of filing the insurance claim to our new pet insurance. It was only after we knew she was feeling better and recovering that we realized our claims were being processed and payment was being mailed! We have two Labrador retrievers and within the last two years both needed TPLO surgeries. Healthy Paws showed compassion and caring. They were quick in there responses and with medical reimbursement. Hands down- this is the best pet insurance!
