Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

We had just enrolled our 2yr old mini American Eskimo, Thor, in healthpaws a few months earlier and then he got horribly ill. He got a severe GI infection and had to stay in the hospital for weeks. I was worried that it may not be covered but all we had to do was send Thor's full health record with the claim and we had no issues! It was very scary for a couple weeks and he lost over 10% of his body weight; we were unsure which way it would go. I can say it was a relief to have insurance otherwise we wouldn't have been able to afford the badly needed IV fluids, medications and lab tests. We have had healthy paws pet insurance for five years and had never had a claim until last year.our dog became very sick and after vet visits and hospital stay found out he was infected by a tic . The good news is he recovered and is doing great ,we couldn't be happier the way Healthy Paws handled everything they were so helpful and explained how to fill out the forms always available to answer our questions and we received our claim checks quickly. My puppy destroyed a plastic Christmas wreath and unbeknownst to me ate some of the plastic. I had to rush him to hospital for emergency treatment. Of course my concern was my pup but having to pay thousands up front is unnerving. Knowing I had healthy paws insurance took the worry away. As soon as I'd submitted the claim I had kind emails inquiring into Welly's health and helping me with my claim. Hours later the claim had been processed and the check was in the mail. This is the best insurance company I have ever worked with. Hands down, better than my homeowners, auto, or human health coverage! I have paid tens of thousands in medical bills over the years for my many pets but never purchased pet insurance. I finally decided to make the commitment for my newly adopted, rambunctious 3 year old border collie, Smokey. About 6 months after I got the insurance, Smokey got loose and got hit by a car. This company was amazing. The vet hospital and neurologist's bills were huge. I have been using healthy paws pet insurance for 9 years now for my little yorkie. She had 2 knee surgeries over the last two years. It would have cost me thousands of dollars. They paid almost the whole bill. I was so pleased with them I would highly recommend them for your pets!

I am very pleased with the manner is which Healthy Paws Pet Insurance has handled my claims. I have had a few health issues with my dog Stevie. I submitted my claims and within a week they were reviewed and I received reimbursement. I have recommended Healthy Paws to friends and will continue to do so in the future. They stand by their word and are very caring and compassionate about what you and your pet have gone through. A great company

I honestly don't even have the right words for how amazing this company has been for me and my dog, Karl. Karl had an issue with vomiting constantly and no one could figure out what was going wrong and $2,000 later found out he has a serious infection in his stomach. Healthy Paws sent us a check within a week of th doctor filing the claim and it just helped us immensely not to have to worry. They even sent an email to see how Karl was feeling. This is a very caring and honest company and I actually refer friends and family to them all the time. They are the best!

normally don't take the time to give feedback, but in this case, I needed to reach out and say thank you. If it wasn't for your service, the quality of life for both myself and Sampson would be null. I am forever grateful for the coverage that you have offered, along with the prompt and at times unexpectedly overwhelming turn around that you have given me. Sampson is doing much better and had it not been for your company, there is no way I would have been capable of keeping him in good health. We have a 10 month old puppy who was diagnosed with juvenile cataracts, a genetic disease (many other pet insurance companies won't cover). Surgery on one eye was $5,000 and she'll have to have eye drops for the rest of her life. Her other eye is also under observation. Healthy Paws provided amazing customer service before and after claims, they even followed up to check on how everything was going. Reimbursement checks came within 2 weeks. Claims take less than 10 sec to submit - snap a photo of receipt with app and you're done! I have referred many friends already and highly recommend Healthy Paws. One of the best $34/month we spend!

We have had the pet insurance through Healthy Paws for almost 2 years now. And with a young healthy dog, you think...oh nothing will happen. But unfortunately we had 2 instances in the last year that made us thankful for the coverage. One our dog was attacked and required immediate care and then the major item was the tear of her ACL (aka TPLO procedure). It was almost a $5k procedure but Healthy Paws called in with a credit card to our provider for the balance that was covered. We were only out our deductible and coinsurance that we has agreed to on our policy. The staff has been very helpful anytime that I have called and always a quick return call or email.
