Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

Exceptional customer service and super fast claim reimbursement. Our cat had major hip surgery and Healthy Paws processed the claim within 24 hours of submitting it.

Dog owners for 30 years, we never had pet insurance before last year. We had occasionally checked out other pet insurance plans and decided against them. Last spring we adopted a pup from a rescue agency that recommended Healthy Paws to us. After reviewing coverage options, we decided to try it for a year and signed up. In March, our pooch dislocated his right patella and tore a ligament. This required expensive surgery to repair. I adopted Mia in Jan. 2012 and in April of that year after researching dog insurance I signed Mia up for Heathy Paws dog insurance and it has been a god send to me. In May of 2015 Mia became very sick, found out she had a very bad liver. Since then she has been in and out the vets constantly. Healthy Paws has been there for us the whole time. So happy with them. I have never had pet insurance for my dogs but felt it was the responsible decision to make. I am extremely happy I did. My dog needed to have invasive, severe knee surgery unexpectedly. submitting the claim was extremely easy and I was reimbursed within a week and a half I’d say from submission to receiving a check. Whenever you call healthy pets they are extremely helpful and just all-around wonderful. I highly, highly recommend this pet insurance and if you are considering getting insurance it is absolutely worth it.

We have been with Healthy Paws since August, 2017. Our 3 pound poodle has had various issues from simple ear infections, tummy troubles to major abdominal surgery and even back lacerations from a large dog attack and Healthy Paws has been there for us! I would never have a pet without this insurance company! They have stood by little Blink through thick and thin! And it’s so easy to submit a claim! Literally I just take a picture of the doctor bill on my cell phone and with a simple push of a button it’s submitted! The check usually arrives within a couple of weeks! It’s that easy! Healthy Paws saved my sanity. My dog Sparky was diagnosed with lymphoma in October 2019. Dire news with 2 options, putting him down or chemotherapy. I contacted one of the many wonderful customer service reps to ask if my policy covered cancer treatment, I was told Yes!! as well as all the medications involved. Sparky is now in total remission and will only need followup ultrasounds etc. Healthy Paws has given my Sparky added months to his perfect little life. I will be forever grateful to Healthy Paws for helping extend Sparky's life. My only form of gratitude is to tell every dog owner I see to switch to this company. Thank you all at HP. We did a lot of research for our giant schnauzer, Greg, when choosing pet insurance. We landed on Healthy Paws after a few people we knew recommended it and reading great reviews on the company. It was the best choice we’ve made with our pup so far. He’s very mischievous and somehow lands himself in the puppy hospital every other month. Healthy paws processed the claims quickly and has never pushed back about the services he receives when it comes to paying for his vet bill. I have been a member of healthy paws for about 5 years. In the last month they have really gone downhill. It's been really difficult getting my reimbursement. I had to submit a document to them 4 times and then call twice just for one invoice.
