Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

It was easy to file my claim when my lab needed ACL surgery. They were quick to process everything which took the burden off of us so we could focus on caring for our pup. The best gift you can ask for is peace of mind knowing you are protected in the worst case scenario. Thank you Healthy Paws!

I have had healthypaws for both my girls for 8 years. They have never given me any hassle when I have sent in a claim and payment is always prompt. I have received over $20,000.00 in reimbursements. They even will contact the surgery hospital directly and make a direct payment if your prefer to not pay out of pocket. I would never go without healthypaws for my pets and highly recommend them to anyone who has a pet. They make it so you never have to decide between financial ruin or caring for a sick or injured pet.

I signed up with healthypaws when I first brought my GSD puppy, Simba, home (first ever pet). After much contemplation and research I decided to purchase insurance with them and I'm glad I did. We were unsure if pet insurance would be worth the investment when we first adopted our puppy in January. HealthyPaws has since saved us ~$10k in vet bills for everything from MRSA to acute gastroenteritis. HealthyPaws has not only given us financial peace of mind to ensure our boy gets the best treatment necessary, but their incredible team has shown genuine compassion when our pup is battling to get better. When you're worried about a family member's life and well-being, it's invaluable to know your insurer has your back. Healthy Paws has exceeded my expectations! After a lot of research I chose Healthy Paws for my 2 15 month old german shepherd puppies. I had taken them in for our scheduled routine visit for their shots and found out my male pup had a rare form of cancer. Of course we took him all over for help and many expensive tests and Healthy Paws was our saving grace to have been able to do this for our beloved puppy. Unfortunately our 16 month old pup lost the fight to this rare form of cancer. Healthy Paws made it so easy to file claims, customer response was quick and it only took 2 days for our reimbursements. We have an English Bulldog and have done a lot of research on health issues pertaining to them. I looked at different insurance companies and finally decided on Healthy Paws. It is very easy to submit a claim and within 48-72 hours you have a response regarding your claim. We can't thank Healthy Paws enough for their prompt response and outstanding customer service. My 3 yr old King Shepherd had a horrible case of hemorrhagic gastroenteritis and needed a late night visit to the local emergency vet clinic (Winchester, VA, totally awesome folks). Needless to say, the visit was not cheap and I ended up with a bill for close to $1,200. I have had HealthyPaws insurance since he was a wee pup and have never had cause to use it until the other night. I am sooo thankful that I kept the coverage! HP have already reimbursed me (minus my deductible) for the promised 90% of the bill, apart from the actual office visit charge which I knew was not covered anyway. These guys rock!!! Healthy Paws has been simply wonderful! My cat had to have quite a few tests and ended up at the ER/vet hospital the evening before Thanksgiving (and spent the night). Healthy Paws was incredibly prompt with their processing and reimbursement. They provided the exact coverage outlined, and I was thrilled. It took a lot of stress away from a very stressful situation. I appreciated everything they did!

healthypaws has been nothing short of wonderful for us and our pet. The coverage is clear and not confusing, so we are able to safely estimate how much we'll get reimbursed for. The reimbursement itself is very quick and easy as a customer. The monthly charges do go up on an annual basis, but not in a way that seems out of line with the extra risk they take on with an aging pet. We'll be sure to use healthypaws in the future and for our next pet.
