Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

We have had nothing but very positive experiences with Healthy Paws. Unfortunately, our dog is plagued with severe allergy problems and has required frequent and costly treatment over the past 3 years. Healthy Paws has approved every claim we've submitted for medications and surgeries related to her allergy problems. We did quite a bit of research before selecting an insurance provider and we are so glad we chose Healthy Paws. I recently got a new Golden retriever puppy, Murphy. After having many health issues with my five previous Goldens a friend suggested I get pet insurance. She assured me that Healthy Paws was by far the best choice ( from her own experiences). Thankfully I took her advice. Because he is a very busy puppy and we live on a lake, a few weeks back he found a fish hook and line someone left in the grass where we walk everyday. He started choking, I found the line coming out of his mouth. Took him to my vet and fortunately they were able to remove the hook and the line. A couple years ago, I decided to get pet insurance for my year-old kittens. I could find no clear comparison between companies—it was worse than car insurance. I opted to go with Healthy Paws based on a friend’s personal experience. Later that year, one of my girls was diagnosed with renal disease—quite rare in a female year-old cat! She now sees a specialist every few months to monitor progression of her disease, and Healthy Paws has been there every step of the way. My 5 year old Beagle Mix was diagnosed with severe cataracts and virtually blind in both eyes. He looked like he would be a white walker dog on Game of Thrones, with his extremely white and cloudy 'Ghost' eyes. The surgery cost came in at almost $6,000. I thank God for Healthy Paws who approved the claim less than 24 hours after being submitted. They have saved me a lot of stress & financial hardship around the Holidays, which I am forever grateful for. I highly recommend this insurance provider to all pet owners because you never know the expenses that could pop-up at any given time. THANK YOU HEALTHY PAWS!!!

Healthy Paws has been a life saver for my family. We felt comfortable with the claim process. The whole process could be completed with my phone App. In most cases, it took us less than 2 weeks to get the money cheque. The insurances are reimbursement based, I ended up being reimbursed for more than $1200 with their unlimited lifetime claims.

I have Healthy Paws Pet Insurance from 2016. Athena was adopted from North Shore Animal League and after researching and speaking with others I joined Healthy Paws not knowing how good their service would be. I never used the insurance until 2018 and wanted to cancel a few times because the cost increased from 33 to 38 to 46 dollars. in 2018 Athena had minor issues with her ear and with my 90% plan and 100 dollar yearly deductible most of her cost was covered. I still felt like it was unnecessary cost to pay for insurance since the reimbursement was minor and I had paid way more in the last 3 years than received. 2019: Early in the year it seemed Athena hurt her leg and was limping and... Highly Recommend Our toy poodle suffered a broken jaw which required a dental specialist and an anesthesiologist due a heart condition that put him at a high risk for surgery. Tooth extractions, oral surgery, among other procedures were performed to help his jaw heal correctly which made this incident very costly (approximately $5,000). His heart condition also requires a cardiologist to preform periodic cardiograms at 350.00 each time. With Healthy Paws, I was able to purchase pet insurance with 90% reimbursement excluding consultation fees which has been a blessing for us and our beloved poodle.
