Kanguro Seguro is a new pet insurance company that promises to "modernize" the pet insurance industry. That may be an overpromise, since the pet insurance industry is fairly modern to begin with, with most policies being available for purchase online and supported by mobile apps. But the company does offer comprehensive coverage for dogs and cats, including three combination accident-and-illness plans and a wellness plan that covers routine and preventive care like vaccinations, heartworm testing and medication, dental cleanings, and more.

In addition, the company offers claims processing in Spanish, through its mobile app.

Kanguro Seguro gets kudos for its charitable and environmental orientation. The company donates part of its profits to animal shelters and global warming organizations. So many people want the opportunity to align the purchases they make with their own values that this feature stands out to us as an additional reason to consider Kanguro Seguro pet insurance.

For the time being, Kanguro Seguro pet insurance is only available for pets in 24 states. However, the company does plan on extending its reach in the near future.

Kanguro Seguro offers pet owners the opportunity to customize coverage. All plans cover illnesses and accidents. Pet owners can select their policy limits at five levels between $5,000 and $30,000. They can also choose their deductible, from $200 to $1,000, and either a 70%, 80%, or 90% reimbursement level.

Pet owners can also purchase wellness coverage for an additional fee. Kanguro Seguro's wellness plan covers a wide range of preventive care, including vaccinations, heartworm testing and prevention, fecal and parasite testing, flea and tick prevention medication, and routine dental cleaning and scaling. Wellness coverage isn't subject to a deductible and payments kick in immediately: no waiting period applies.

We requested a quote for a one-year-old, neutered male golden retriever living in Florida. We selected the lowest available coverage limits ($5,000 per year), the highest deductible, and the lowest reimbursement percentage. Kanguro Seguro's quote was a shockingly low $18 per month. So if you're looking for inexpensive pet insurance, the company should be on your shortlist of insurers to investigate.

Currently, customers must pay their veterinary bills upfront, then file a claim to receive reimbursement. However, Kungaro Seguro reports that it will be launching a direct-to-vet payment feature in the near future.

If you're insuring two or more pets living in the same household with the company, you'll receive 10% off the price of each policy you purchase.
