VRBO is a travel search engine which is a registered trademark of HomeAway.com. It offers information on over 2 million house rentals worldwide with more than 25,000 pet-friendly properties to choose from. It also provides detailed listings on properties such as those with free baby and kid amenities.

Services and Features

VRBO makes searching for a vacation rental simple by letting you enter a destination and travel dates. It also has search filters which lets travellers narrow down results. Travellers can inquire on 3 or more properties which increases their chance of booking. It also has a “Book it Now” option to select a listing.

The company ensures that the money spent vacation is covered with its Cancellation and Damage Protection. This covers non-refundable refundable trip costs in case customers need to cancel their trip due to selected reasons. Typically, vacation rental payments become non-refundable 30 to 90 days in advance of the arrival date. With Cancellation Protection, consumers can insure their trip cost of up to $50,000 if they need to cancel and reimburse due to covered events such as flight cancellations, mandatory evacuation, job loss, injury, sickness, and more.

Damage Protection helps travellers be protected against expenses incurred due to accidentally damage a vacation rental property. This can reimburse travellers if their refundable damage deposit is withheld due to a covered loss. Coverage is offered starting from $59 up to $1,500 with no deductible.

We booked a home for Lake Geneva in March 2021 for July 2022. Due to the length of time that we booked ahead, we had changed in family situation and so we changed the name from one family member to another. Due to technical issues on the VRBO side, I could no longer make payments on the reservation. So, VRBO canceled the original reservation and rebooked the reservation IN THE SAME PHONE CALL. Now, instead of getting the original service fee of $499 it is $561 and VRBO will NOT adjust the service fee to the lower amount. EVEN THOUGH THE RESERVATION WAS CANCELED DUE TO TECHNICAL ISSUES ON VRBO's side. NOT MINE. I will not use VRBO anymore. I have only used them for YEARS due to Airbnb does... Read More

I a vacation rental condo in Florida 3/22 and VRBO blocked my review. They said it needed work. Asked me to rewrite it and click here. I tried. wouldn't take rewrite. And why do I need to rewrite it at all? What's wrong with this review. It is accurate and honest. Here it is, you decide. First, let me say I’m a regular traveler and in no way affiliated with VRBO or AirBnB. VRBO may not be the worst company I’ve ever dealt with, but they probably are. My wife and I vacationed for three weeks in Florida. During that time we stayed in 8 different properties; three through VRBO and 5 through AirBnB. We didn’t have a single problem at the AirBnB properties but all three VRBO properties were horrible. We have requested refunds but the customer service is equally horrible. I have spent over three hours on the phone trying to get a single refund. AFTER being promised, in writing, by the property host that I would get a refund. Don’t do it stayed 10 minutes in the place disgusting feces in toilets. Owner called me a liar did not refund my $1400 spent another 1500 on hotels for family lodged complaint with Vrbo told me it’s up to owner and no refund. You have recourse for a disgusting rental. Please don’t use them. If it can happen to me it can happen to you. Just lost $1400 for 10 minutes in the home. Feces is my walk away immediately. You have no assurance of what you are renting and no support from VRBO. I mean none

VRBO is a joke. They do not support the consumer. They are scripted in their responses, they do not do what they say theyre going to do, and they are hackers! Ive never been so disgusted in my life! The property manager of my recent stay charged me a $500.00 incidental fee for damages that were there before we arrived. Ive spent countless hours on the phone and online chat with her AND VRBO. They did absolutely nothing. The property manager went on her listing and edited the description and deleted all her reviews. She opened up a new listing which is where MY review ended up. We rented a place in west palm Beach. No contact with owner for check in. Also when we called cust. Service phone was disconnected we were told. Arrived at property and it was abandoned for several months at least. Place still available on VRBO. Refused refund. Called credit card for refund. aVOID these people.bad need and ratings reflect it

VRBO helped my wife and I after a property management company cancelled our reservation. Two weeks before our vacation we learned that the property owner had taken the property away from the management company and that our reservation had been moved to a different property, without our permission. VRBO helped us reach out to the property owner and salvage a part of our stay. They also found other properties for us to use for the days where we didn't have a place to stay. If you can be patient, VRBO will do the right thing. Thanks VRBO!

My husband and I reserved a condo in Kissemmee for 2 months , January and February 2022. The reservation was cancelled by the owner. Our money was returned . So we found another condo and reserved it. Again our reservation was cancelled by the owner. Apparently it had been sold. We are still trying to get our money refunded. It has been several months since they cancelled. My husband called the owner a couple of times and was told " gove me a couple of days ." Finally we disputed the charge through our credit card and are STILL waiting for a refund. It is not right that we can't get a refund . THEY CANCELLED, we didn't. I would never trust VRBO again.

I booked a stay for labor day weekend in Chicago. The host cancelled on us last minute. VRBO did very little to assist in finding another comparable stay. They pushed properties that were double the price and did not offer any financial assistance. I called their customer support, sent emails, sent messages on Twitter. After multiples of these communications, they finally said that I qualified for their financial assistance reimbursement. I booked a trip that the price difference would be covered. I am now 2 months after the trip trying to get my reimbursement from VRBO and it has proven to be extremely difficult and they're not helpful. I will never be using VRBO again. I have put... My Vrbo host did not respond. Vrbo customer service promised me a hotel and a different Vrbo but never got back to me. They left me stranded in the middle of DC with a pregnant wife and a dead phone while paying over $600 for a hotel on a teacher's budget. I spent over 90 minutes on the phone with them, but never got my hotel. Terrible experience.
