VRBO is a travel search engine which is a registered trademark of HomeAway.com. It offers information on over 2 million house rentals worldwide with more than 25,000 pet-friendly properties to choose from. It also provides detailed listings on properties such as those with free baby and kid amenities.

Services and Features

VRBO makes searching for a vacation rental simple by letting you enter a destination and travel dates. It also has search filters which lets travellers narrow down results. Travellers can inquire on 3 or more properties which increases their chance of booking. It also has a “Book it Now” option to select a listing.

The company ensures that the money spent vacation is covered with its Cancellation and Damage Protection. This covers non-refundable refundable trip costs in case customers need to cancel their trip due to selected reasons. Typically, vacation rental payments become non-refundable 30 to 90 days in advance of the arrival date. With Cancellation Protection, consumers can insure their trip cost of up to $50,000 if they need to cancel and reimburse due to covered events such as flight cancellations, mandatory evacuation, job loss, injury, sickness, and more.

Damage Protection helps travellers be protected against expenses incurred due to accidentally damage a vacation rental property. This can reimburse travellers if their refundable damage deposit is withheld due to a covered loss. Coverage is offered starting from $59 up to $1,500 with no deductible.

If I could give 0 stars I also would! The first and only property I booked was a disaster when we arrived. It was 115 degrees and the air conditioning was broken and clearly in very bad condition. The electrical grid of the house could not even support the two main AC units being on. The pool was disgusting and unusable. It took weeks of fighting with the host to get a refund and VRBO offered no recourse to get a refund if the host refused. Additionally, VRBO charges a $150 + tax service fee, that I have been trying to get refunded for the stay and have been going out of my mind dealing with their customer service. I have spent hours on the phone line waiting for a representative and... Read More

If I could give 0 stars I would. Our reservation was NOT available when we arrived. Only after we tried to access the rental, spoke to the owner, and messaged the property owner was our reservation been cancelled. We were left without a place to stay, and money has not been refunded. I'm reviewing this here after numerous attempts through the phone and the app. My friends and I booked a VRBO reservation, address 2923 South Dakota Ave NE 2, Washington, DC 20018 (property ID 1784988). The reservation was made by my friend on April 20, 2021 (reservation ID HA-MFGF78) When we arrived on June 17th we were informed that the location was no longer being used as a VRBO location and,... 4530 Bayshore blvd NE, St Petersburg Fl, first week of June 2021. It was dirty, dust, dirt, spiders and hair collected in corners, floors needed mopping, outside had mold and mildew, and entrance was cluttered and had many dead plants. Mattress as dirty and stained badly. Cockroaches and centipedes ran in some rooms. In need of repairs kitchen faucet fell apart, tiles in shower loose and came off, holes in ceiling, appears from water leak. Unsafe piles of building materials about the property. Only positive was convenience of the pool. VRBO or owner/whomever dropped the ball wont use VRBO. Do not recommend VRBO or this property.

I agree with the other reviewers who do not recommend VRBO. Our problem was with the owner of a rental on Mission Beach. He failed to inform us there would be major alleyway demolition going on 10 feet behind the house. This demolition last 9 hours, overnight, from 9 pm till 6 am, with no ability to leave as the alleyway was blocked at both ends. The noise was horrendous - jackhammers, etc... We didn't sleep, yet paid VBRO and the owner $630.00 for this nightmare. Both the owner and VRBO have washed their hands of this. VRBO specifically said it was not their problem. Really?

BEWARE: Host cancelled my reservation on June 9, 2021, which was 7 days before my stay on June 17, 2021, without notice or explanation. They did not respond to my VRBO inquiry when I wanted to get more info on the cancellation. This was for Father's Day weekend and it appears that she still has bookings from the time of the cancellation on 6/9/2021 and onwards. I also noticed the major price increase for bookings. It seems that she just wanted to charge more or isn't booking certain ethnicities. I'm not able to leave a review about this either, since I didn't officially stay at the property. I think that Owners should have similar repercussions on cancellations, including fees... Read More

Avoid. This. Site. They don't really care to make sure that the places being rented are legitimately as they described. Most people will try and advertise house rooms, with complete strangers living in it, as "house rentals." Unless you want to get crammed into a house, where you're stuck with complete strangers, and have it be sprung up on you last second that there's false advertising going on. Avoid this site and save your money. Was a complete and utter waste of my time and money. Will avoid them in the future, that's for certain.

We are sorry we allowed VRBO to represent our property to vacationers. The house means a lot to us and the people who run VRBO have proven themselves irresponsible. We've never seen worse customer service. --They hire irresponsibly. I stopped in at the house unannounced one day and found two of their cleaning people rocking out to loud music. They did not even know I'd entered the house. They were ineffective with the cleaning, but they get paid no matter what they do. VRBO needs to recognize that cleaning is a SKILL that you can't just assume any adult has. --Worse is the mishandling of funds. They took $2900 to pay rental taxes, but DID NOT PAY THE TAXES. People VRBO... Read More

My first time using VRBO we were seeking a home in Arizona with a heated pool. We found a home in Lake Havasu and rented it for a few days (VRBO property id 2241051). We had multiple issues but the largest by far were that the heater for the pool was not functioning. We had to spend valuable time while on vacation to deal with this issue trying to get it resolved (including three visits by the owner’s pool company) before we were scheduled to leave. To his credit the owner did give us a partial refund. When solicited by VRBO, I submitted a review which I believed to be both balanced and constructive. When I observed that this review was not posted on the VRBO web site I tried to call them... Read More

I am trying to write a review for a house we rented at Arch Cape, Oregon but your request to do so fails to open up. You have sent me an email four times but on each occasion when I click to write the review nothing happens. I hope this problem can be corrected. Niki Merrigan

This company is paid by VRBO. No review they give can be unbiased. I made a reservation that was never even finalized and they charged my card a fee. And I told them I did not want to finalize my reservation, they told me they could not refund the fee, because it has been charged by a different company not them. This makes no sense. They aren’t not a company doing business upfront and honestly. You have to read every single word of fine print. Approximately five pages worth. I would find a different service to rent from.
