Ambetter is a health insurance company owned by the Centene Corporation, which is a multi-national healthcare company that provides programs and services to under-insured and uninsured individuals. Ambetter offers customers affordable health care plans in 14 states including Arkansas, Arizona, Georgia, Florida, Indiana, and Nevada, among others.

Ambetter is Centene Corporation’s option for a health insurance marketplace, so it’s intended for individuals who lack health insurance, and possibly don’t qualify for traditional plans.

What’s Included in Ambetter’s Health Insurance Plans?

Ambetter health insurance plans offer prescription coverage, mental and behavioral health services, integrated care management, maternity and newborn care, 24/7 nurse advice line, Ambetter Telehealth, My Health Pays Rewards, and optional vision and dental coverage for adults.

The company has three plan options to choose from: Ambetter Essential Care, Ambetter Balanced Care, and Ambetter Secure Care, which are classified as bronze, silver, and gold, respectively.

The Ambetter Essential Care offers lower monthly premium payments, but higher out-of-pocket expenses, the Ambetter Balanced Care offers the best balance between monthly premium payments and out-of-pocket expenses, and the Ambetter Secure Care has higher monthly premium payments, but limits your out-of-pocket expenses.

Each plan has a different type of coverage and payment, but all of them include essential health benefits such as emergency services, hospitalization. outpatient or ambulatory services, preventive and wellness services, maternity and newborn care, pediatric services, mental health and substance abuse services, and laboratory services, among others.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Ambetter offers flexible healthcare options that fit different budgets and needs, with a few perks like the company’s My Health Pays Rewards, which allows customers to pay for medical expenses with the money they earn through the program, a 24/7 nurse advice line, and Ambetter Telehealth, which provides 24/7 phone or video access to in-network providers for non-emergency health issues. Additionally, Ambetter members can manage and pay for their account online, and the company’s website offers helpful tools like a provider search engine, and educational articles for those who want to learn more about insurance.

Having said that, Ambetter health insurance also has its drawbacks, like the fact that it’s only available in 15 states, you must sign up during the open enrollment period, and that the company may have stricter requirements to qualify than other traditional insurance companies, so customers should keep this in mind before purchasing.

My rating for Ambetter is less than 0. I am paying for insurance that I cannot afford to use. I went to an urgent care today because I am sick, but was told that they are not contracted with my insurance company.....so I guess I will remain sick, or go to an emergency room after I am too sick to do anything else. Not helpful! I now believe that the point is to collect money, and avoid paying for anything. Their billing is so screwed up that I am still, after several months, trying to get them to stop billing me by mail, as my premium is auto deducted. I don't know where they get the people that work there, but they are obviously are not adequately trained to do their job, or do... Read More

Not even an insurance company. Ambetter is a denial company. The last year with them has been torture for my family and doctors. Numerous doctors have stated that trying to work with ambetter through the prior authorization, appeal/peer to peer process has been more frustrating than any previous insurance company in their entire careers. Ambetter denies practically everything, even medication and make your doctors jump through hoops to treat you. My wife’s podiatrist was trying to get an ankle surgery approved and the doctor doing the peer to peer to determine medical necessity was a Gynecologist. How does that make sense? 100% switching to BCBS next year. No human being would buy this... Read More

Ambetter superior healthcare in Texas is a NIGHTMARE come true. One of the main ways they turn a profit is by doing everything possible to prevent you from getting the medical care you've paid. For example they have a brand new online find-a-doctor primary care physician or a specialist section that DOES NOT WORK!. I made it very easy for the system to change my primary care doctor by putting in my new Doctor's first name and last name and then hitting the search button. I was given 13 results not one of which was even close to the name I gave. A few weeks ago I spent an hour waiting for a list of five positions that could be my new primary care doctor I was told that everyone had been... Read More

I purchased an Ambetter plan for 2019. Their phony database of specialists disrupted routine medical treatment needed to function with treatable disabilities. It resulted in an eight-month period of homelessness I'd never experienced in my life. Living on the street with my elderly mother while reading about how Ohio and Indiana have class-action lawsuits was dispiriting. It was a classic bait and switch scam with phony physician directories. After being stripped of my humanity and any hope for it by being left in a condition helplessly unable to work, I ended up BAKING ACTING MYSELF SEVERAL TIMES in DESPERATION to GET OFF THE STREET, to get MEDICAL ATTENTION, and eat. FLORIDA BLUE was... Read More

I purchased AmBetter through the Marketplace. It was difficult to find providers who would take it and it was very difficult to get a medically necessary knee surgery approved because AmBetter kept denying it for no apparent reason. But the worst part about AmBetter was that I met my out-of-pocket maximum early in the year, so AmBetter tripled my out-of-pocket maximum right in the middle of my contract, even though my income did not increase. They also increased my deductible and copays. I called many times, trying to get a resolution, and AmBetter pretty much said, "Tough, we changed the contract." I have a hearing scheduled for later this month, with a Federal Hearing Officer. It is... Read More

10/01/2021 Called in to Ambetter and had extremely long waiting times. When someone finally answered the phone they barely spoke English. I only had a simple question of what my coverage was and if my plan was PPO, HMO, or EPO. She said it doesn't say on my policy that it just says I have a medical plan. I said I know I have a medical plan, but I need to know if it's an EPO, PPO, or HMO plan so I could book an appoint with my PCP as new patient. She proceeded to just repeat the same thing. I asked for supervisor because it's a simple basic question and should have a simple basic answer. She put me on hold for FOREVER. Then nicely hung up on me. This is information is not on their website... Read More

When you look at Ambetter's web page they show so many doctors on different speciality. But after you call their offices most of them say they are out of network. How this could be happen? Forget Ambetter. It is my last time with Ambetter. Most of the time At the end of research we go to minute maid clinic.

Ambetter off with another insurance company. I need a pacemaker/defibrillator implant since I was diagnosed with stage 4 congestive heart failure during November 2020. They have denied the procedure every time my cardiologist and myself tried to appeal their decision. I need this procedure to stay alive. I know there is a class action lawsuit against them for not having in network doctors available. There needs to be a class action lawsuit against them for not paying for claims and procedures. I’m in. November 1, I am done with ambetter. If I am still alive. If I could leave a zero rating I would.

We signed up for AmBetter during open enrollment. We pay $1,500 per month for our family. EVERY single time we need ANYTHING done, AmBetter denies our claim. Our son needed surgery for a severe back problem. The surgery was scheduled for three months. Two days before the surgery, AmBetter cancels it. We are still waiting for the peer to peer discussion to happen. Our son is in extreme pain. AmBetter seems to care more about the money than people's quality of life. Our daughter saw a back specialist for an ongoing problem. She's been in pain for 8 years. She's been through physical therapy, several times. She was scheduled for an MRI that we pay for out of pocket, until our... Read More
