Ambetter is a health insurance company owned by the Centene Corporation, which is a multi-national healthcare company that provides programs and services to under-insured and uninsured individuals. Ambetter offers customers affordable health care plans in 14 states including Arkansas, Arizona, Georgia, Florida, Indiana, and Nevada, among others.

Ambetter is Centene Corporation’s option for a health insurance marketplace, so it’s intended for individuals who lack health insurance, and possibly don’t qualify for traditional plans.

What’s Included in Ambetter’s Health Insurance Plans?

Ambetter health insurance plans offer prescription coverage, mental and behavioral health services, integrated care management, maternity and newborn care, 24/7 nurse advice line, Ambetter Telehealth, My Health Pays Rewards, and optional vision and dental coverage for adults.

The company has three plan options to choose from: Ambetter Essential Care, Ambetter Balanced Care, and Ambetter Secure Care, which are classified as bronze, silver, and gold, respectively.

The Ambetter Essential Care offers lower monthly premium payments, but higher out-of-pocket expenses, the Ambetter Balanced Care offers the best balance between monthly premium payments and out-of-pocket expenses, and the Ambetter Secure Care has higher monthly premium payments, but limits your out-of-pocket expenses.

Each plan has a different type of coverage and payment, but all of them include essential health benefits such as emergency services, hospitalization. outpatient or ambulatory services, preventive and wellness services, maternity and newborn care, pediatric services, mental health and substance abuse services, and laboratory services, among others.

Overall, Ambetter offers flexible healthcare options that fit different budgets and needs, with a few perks like the company’s My Health Pays Rewards, which allows customers to pay for medical expenses with the money they earn through the program, a 24/7 nurse advice line, and Ambetter Telehealth, which provides 24/7 phone or video access to in-network providers for non-emergency health issues. Additionally, Ambetter members can manage and pay for their account online, and the company’s website offers helpful tools like a provider search engine, and educational articles for those who want to learn more about insurance.

Having said that, Ambetter health insurance also has its drawbacks, like the fact that it’s only available in 15 states, you must sign up during the open enrollment period, and that the company may have stricter requirements to qualify than other traditional insurance companies, so customers should keep this in mind before purchasing.

The insurance is AWFUL. In 4 months I still do not have my insurance cards. I am unable to obtain online access to their system due to a glitch which has been reported 4 times in 4 months. Since I am unable to access their system so I called to obtain copies of MY claims. They are unable to provide them and requested I obtain from my providers. WTF! All representatives request a phone number to return the call and they never do. This operation has been outsourced in the Philippines and who knows where else. Beware the people are money hungry and I bet they are taking advantage of the government as well as customers like me. I had been with Ambetter for a few years and last year I decide not to renew for 2022 because I didn’t like being almost forced to go to the doctor….my philosophy is if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it! I kept getting calls and e-mails that I needed to enroll in Ambetter but I blocked all the calls from them and they finally stopped. Well when I looked over my bank statement I notice Ambetter was take money from my account. Absolutely incompetent customer service! They will read off scripts rather than try to actually try to help you. They hung up more than once when confronted with a problem that they didn't want to help with. They demanded we get an urgent care to call them about a bill that was supposed to be covered by their policy because they said it was out of network when their website clearly stated it was in network. Stay as far away from this shady company!!!!!

This health care outfit has owed me a refund of over $600 since the end of the year. It is now the end of February and I have still not received it after at least 6 calls to them. I have documented each call with times and dates and names, along with refund id numbers, service request numbers and dates of processes and submissions. Every time I contact them, I wait at least 25 minutes for them to 'check' on something and then get disconnected. Do not allow them to steal your money!

Ambetter charges high rates but does not provide even basic care. I signed up for care under the Nevada health exchange and then used their "find a doctor" to set up a physical. I spent 6 hours calling different numbers. The list is so out-of-date that it is a serious burden trying to find a general practitioner. And for those you do get in contact with, no appointments are available for 3 or 4 months. I finally called Ambetter and they told me that I could get an appointment in the next city sooner probably and I should start calling people far away from where I live. Save yourself the hassle and do not buy the Ambetter Value product in 2022! There is no out-of-network coverage and there are no specialists or imaging centers in the network due to the insurance companies' negligence. Choose any other product but the value option.

Ambetter insurance's supply processing and customer service is ridiculous. Don't buy this insurance if you'll actually need to utilize it. I have been trying to obtain supplies for my insulin pump (I have type 1 diabetes) for over a month. I need these supplies to live. The medical supply company they require me to use (large supply chain) tells me they have sent 5 requests for prior authorization in the last month. I have called twice today with both calls being disconnected after 45 minutes and 79 minutes without any returned calls (even though they initially verified my "call back number" at the beginning of both calls). My name is Daniel Rodriguez and I have been an Ambetter client for the last 3 years. The TERRIBLE SERVICE that Ambetter provides only compares with their advanced capacity to deny most claims, calculate deductibles in forms nobody understands, never provide a definitive answer or solve a problem (for good or for bad). Since Nov 23, 2021 I have been trying to get Ambetter to explain why they deny payment to my psychologist for therapy sessions. To this date (Jan 25, 2022) at least 7 different persons in Ambetter have provided 7 different explanations and none of them have been able to prove that they were telling the truth or solving the problem. DO NOT select this insurance. Prior to selecting the insurance I checked to see that our doctors were in network but now that the new year has started most of them are no longer accepting Ambetter but the Ambetter Directory does not reflect this. I called and asked for the updated directory and was told they could not provide me with that and the only way to get updated info was to speak with them directly. I have never heard of an insurance not providing a directory! The next issue is the customer service is terrible. Ambetter- no one wants to take it. They gave me a list of providers in my area to find a new GP because my doctor wouldn't take it - Obama lied I guess. Then I called all 40 phone numbers they gave me and not one was a GP. Several were diagnostic centers, or a Dr. in another state, or if they were here they said - I don't know why our name is on that list - we are NOT taking Ambetter!. Then i did find a bone Dr. that took it one time and she said they wouldn't pay for an MRI on anyone, even if it was Dr. requested. She said they were the worst company.
