When my mother took out her long term care policy 30 years ago they were a decent company, well respected. Things chance when you apply to receive the benefits you have paid for. Not only is this company crooked but they seem to change the conditions needed to receive the actual benefits my mother signed up for. Her children had to fill out numerous, silly, time consuming paperwork for nothing in return. Don't let their fancy name fool you. My mother deserved what she paid for and got nothing. Stay away from this company.

I started a LTC policy with J.H. yrs. ago. I now believe this to be a mistake. Lately my billing has been so screwed up, it leaves me wondering what kind of service am I going to receive when I actually need it. Three times trying to straighten out J.H. billing mistakes, wasting my time and theirs. I'm now at an age where jumping ship to anther provider would be difficult. Payments sent out as soon as bill is received are not get processed to my account in a timely fashion. This results in J.H. sending out secondary notices as well as late payment notices. Despite bank records showing checks have cleared, and calls to J.H. indicate they've processed the checks but have yet to apply them to... Read More

This company is deceptive, unethical, and practices bait-and-switch. Requirements for claims are not upfront or transparent, and as soon as initially disclosed requirements are met, they will find more roadblocks to put in your path to string it out so they don't have to pay out...probably hoping the policy owner will die first. My parents have paid for this insurance for over 20 years and both are now in their 90s. This past year they applied for durable equipment benefits to help them stay in their own home (a step-in shower and lift chairs), and John Hancock LTC Insurance, while always right there to collect their premiums, found one reason after another to not have to reimburse my... Hancock is no longer a blue chip institution. Arguably they are a fraudulent scam. The most incompetent, ridiculous, unresponsive claims service process one can imagine. They embark on any means possible to avoid paying straight forward claims. I suggest anyone who get first sign of a problem to hire a lawyer and get your life long premiums and benefits paid back.

I agree with all the other comments- the high rating must be false. I have paid my premiums from August 2013 till August 2020, the year I turned 70. I don' believe I received another notice for payment. Then the next notice was of a lapsed policy because of non-payment, and sent after the 90 day grace period. They have not been writing any new policies since December 2016, but are eager to let the remaining policies "lapse"(according to information online) . I think I have been protected from further fraud and non-response to claims by being allowed to lapse.

Trying to access the long term care benefits for my Father has been insanely difficult. We have been given contrary information frequently. I have worked as an elder aid for many years and can prove my qualifications but JH will not compensate me for providing the necessary care my Father has been evaluated to need as per JH nurse. This is extremely difficult because he is not amenable to outsiders coming into his home. I applied to be his care provider and was denied the medical CNA benefit simply bc I am his daughter. My resume was ignored. My Father has been paying into this LTC plan for 20 years. He is distraught that he cant use this benefit after all the money he paid into... Read More

JH is a strong company, no doubt. But my parents have LTC policies with them. These policies are 21 years old and they have pad faithfully. They are 90 and 921 respectively and have never made a calaim. The original policy says quite clearly that the benefits are indexed to inflation. In 21 years the daily benefit has gone from $120/day to $130/day, however, the premium for this essentially flat benefit has gone up 276% from $1,300/year to $3,592/year. As expected the answer for "why" is not decipherable. I can say it is definitely not right and unethical. It would be understood to not index to inflation or to make it less than CPI/Inflation rate, but when combined with nearly... Read More

John Hancock seems to be pretty incompetent in initiating a claim. They state that it takes 45 days and we're 4 months in and still messing with them. They received the nursing home certification and plan of care in one pdf document and then 30 days later, when I followed up, they stated they had not received the plan of care. I realize going to page 2 of a document can be difficult but I would expect they would have someone with the skills to scroll down. I resent the document and finally, a month later, they said they needed to do an on-site visit which turns out to be a telephone call with another contract firm asking the same questions already answered. Pretty incompetent.

I have been trying to claim benefits on my wife's LTC coverage for more than 8 months and all i get is the runaround. One stalling tactic after another. In the meantime they continue to deduct the premium from her bank account. One of the worst companies I've ever done business with.

My Father has been paying for Long Term Insurance since 1993. He has no chance of claiming any help due to the 90 day elimination period among other "loopholes". You are crooks, plain and simple. You discovered how to legally screw people and you've been doing it for years.
