Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

I've had Health Paws Insurance for my two cats for several years now, and only needed it recently. My cat became ill and required quite a bit of extensive and expensive testing to diagnose and Health Paws came through with timely reimbursement on all the expenses. They made a stressful time a little easier by taking away the financial worries. I've been recommending them to everybody I know who has pets!

Healthy Paws says they will pay your claim within 10 working days. It’s true! Healthy Paws says there are very few exclusions. It’s true! Healthy Paws promises personal, caring service. It’s SO true. Man, am I ever glad I went with this company for my pet insurance. I could not be happier!

My cat was listless and clearly unwell, so we took him to our vet, who could not find anything wrong with him. Over the next few days he got worse. At 1 am one morning he was having difficulty breathing so we took him to the emergency vet. He had developed pyothorax (pus within the chest cavity compressing his lungs), and without treatment would probably have died that night. After treatment and a week in hospital, he made a full recovery. The treatment resulted in a simply enormous bill which Healthy Paws paid promptly and without any difficulty. We have Healthy Paw Pet Insurance for the last 9 years and over this time our pet family grew from 1 to 3 dogs. In this time we needed to use the insurance provided by Healthy Paws on quite a few times and some of them included $1000 - $4000 vet bills. Some times we required to have 2 dogs at the same time to submit claims. We never had any issues being reimbursed and the reimbursement was issued very quickly. On occasions when the claim was serious they always ask how the dog was doing and hoped recovery would be good. The always sent a happy birthday email to all the dogs. Healthy Paws Pet Insurance became truly our partner in caring for our two dogs. The staff is caring, responsive, accurate, and authentic (you could feel they actually care). They processed the insurance quickly and kept us informed during the process. We paid the bill and were reimbursed promptly. All the promises were kept and more -- they reached out to see how our doggy was doing. We did a lot of research before choosing this company. Healthy paws was extremely helpful and efficient in resolving my puppy’s insurance claims. The turn-around time from my initial filing of a claim to receiving my checks - was AMAZINGLY QUICK! Awesome. The customer service was also outstanding. Very pleasant to talk with and informative. Only thing that can be approved on is the pickup calls time when you call in - the hold time was a bit long each time I called in, but once answered the insurance agents are wonderful to talk with, polite and helpful. I give them a thumbs up 👍🏻😀 and the company itself a 👍🏻😀. Very glad I chose healthy paws as my insurance carrier for my puppy

My 2 year old Sheepadoodle was recently diagnosed with Addison's disease and healthy paws has been amazing. They not only covered all of his visits, treatments and medications but they also checked in to see how he is doing!

Our yellow lab, Sully, recently had expensive tests to determine that he has a heart murmur and Dilated Cardiomyopathy. This may be an ongoing issue that we'll have to follow up on and test on a regular basis. We're so glad we have Healthy Paws by our side, as they covered every dollar that they agreed on when we signed up for coverage, and we received our reimbursement in an extremely timely manner. They then followed up by email to check on how Sully is feeling. We HIGHLY recommend Healthy Paws! :)
