Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

Coco tore her CCL and needed surgery which is quite expensive and stressful on all of us. Thanks to Healthy Paws, the expenses were covered at the chosen 80% level which helped tremoundously. They were true to their word at covering just about all the expenses involved. The claims were easy to submit and very fast to reimburse. Thank you Healthy Paws for being the right kind of insurance company. I recommend them to everyone.

We are soo thankful for Healthy Paws Pet Insurance! I shopped around for a while looking for the best (and most customer friendly) pet insurance to cover our two pugs. After lots of research, we decided to go with Healthy Paws and I'm beyond grateful for them! We had one of our furbabies develop a need for a veterinary neurologist and Healthy Paws covered the diagnostics and surgery when we needed it and it was very easy to submit the invoices/claims. Healthy Paws was there for us during a very stressful period when our little guy was sick and I'll be forever thankful for them! Thank you for being there for us, Healthy Paws!!

My dog Kona had a life-threatening medical condition that was quite difficult to diagnose, and involved multiple tests and procedures. Healthy Paws was wonderful throughout the entire process. The surgical care receptionist told me we picked a good provider for insurance, and I heartily agree!

HealthyPaws has been a wonderful safety net for our two dogs, Cosmo and Kaya. We have been using them for the last couple of years and this year the insurance really came in handy! I never had to think twice about making sure they both received the best vet care when one needed surgery and the other developed a thyroid condition. This is far different than my last dog who had to be put down when he broke his back. I would recommend HealthyPaws to everyone.

Our dog Bingley (10 years old) was recently diagnosed with cancer of the liver and although the experience was extremely stressful we were very thankful for the staff at Healthy Paws. Bingley is recovering from his traumatic experience well. All of the staff spoke to were helpful, supportive and interested in our dogs operation and recovery. They processed our claims quickly and the app is extremely easy to use which allows the family to focus on their pet. Highly recommend having pet insurance and using Healthy Paws as your provider.

Healthy Paws is easily one of the best decisions we have ever made regarding our pup. I want to highly recommend Healthy Paws Pet Insurance for the exceptional service they have provided me. Earlier this week, I submitted two claims in relation to a rather expensive leg surgery my Golden Retriever recently underwent. Unfortunately, he had complications and ended up in the emergency room a couple days later. In just a matter of a few hours following my claim submission, Healthy Paws had reviewed and approved both claims. I have carried Healthy Paws Pet Insurance on both of my Golden Retrievers since they day I brought them home and they have always responded to the claims I submit in short order. Overall outstanding pet insurance and service! Our dog needed eye surgery for melanocytoma/melanoma. The whole procedure including pre-checks came close to 4,000 dollars... Healthypaws approved with no questions asked within a few days - remarkable! We are so grateful for the speedy review and the reimbursement of the costs as per contract. Super friendly service on the phone, and they even checked by email afterwards how things were going. It's a huge relief for pet ‘parents’ to have such a great insurance and not having to think about something horrible. Highly recommended.

I had Trupanion for the first 2 months after bringing Sadie home from the shelter. After I heard about Healthy Paws and compared the two as well as a few others, I decided to go with Healthy Paws and I am so glad I did. Their rates are good, their service is faboulous. Processing claims is a breeze and reimbursement time is extremely quick. The few times I had to speak to a representative, they were very compassionate and caring. My dog just had surgery for a benign tumor on her paw, I received an email from several employees asking how she was progressing in her recovery. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.
