Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Everything went exceedingly better than anyone could imagine. Choice was very fast in handling my claim and in contacting a company to handle the problem. I know I got lucky, but the company contacted me within minutes and had the plumbing problem completed in just over two hours (about 2-3 days faster than what most should expect).

For starters, their online references, like to OBB, warn not to do business with them. That is straight off of their home page. I have never seen such a level of passing the buck and finding a reason to deny a legitimate claim. CHW will exploit your claims to the best of their ability and find a reason not to work with you. Their sales office will promise you that everything is covered, and even the fine print seems to only exclude common sense damage, but then they will have one phrase or sentence that negates your claim. My air conditioning unit has a leak and they won't cover it because it had a touch of rust on it from...yup...the leak. So they will not fix my coil and if it comes... Read More

your claims agent who took my call was most helpful and worked out an issue with my account. Don't waste your money with this company. I left American Home Shield and went to Choice because it was cheaper and had cheaper copays. I will tell you that you get what you pay for. Cheap work ain't good and good work ain't cheap. The problem I have is they send out very unprofessional contractors who do poor work and I had several problems where I made an appointment and the contractor would not show up and would not call to reschedule. I have learned my lesson and will not renew this policy

Since the warranty company had no one, they told us to find someone. I went on Home Advisor and contacted Clifton Sommer owner of Total Appliances. He did an outstanding job and also is a veteran. Very very happy we found him. Thank you Choice Warranty.

First contact for A/C service was disastrous. The selected service company responded within 5 hrs.. Inspected problem next day. Located leak in our 10 year old "Goodman" A/C unit's evaporating coil. Service company reported their findings to "Choice Warranty". Independent of commercial ad, that everything will need service in time, rust on your evaporating coil, voids contractual obligation to repair. PLEASE READ " Section F-1, Limitations of Liability "Malfunction or improper operation due to RUST or corrosion of ALL systems and appliances". Now independent of having a Choice Home Warranty - I am stuck with a possible $6000.00 repair/ replacement bill. YES> I AM STUCK, STUCK.... Read More
