Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Fetch also prides itself on offering more coverage than any other provider. They offer premium pet insurance and that means they are not the cheapest. Pricing is based on your pets age, breed and location.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

If I could give this company no stars I would! The absolute worst company to get your pet insurance through. They paid absolutely NONE of my pet’s $5000.00 medical bills, they charged me my monthly fee 2 times and NEVER answered any of the numerous amounts of emails, returned any of my calls, and after waiting 3+ hours waiting on hold, found out there was nobody there to even answer my call. Which I found out but calling every number they have to contact them. THIS COMPANY IS A WASTE OF MONEY, TIME, AND ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR PET. I also reported them to the BBB.

there is no way possible this company should be in top ten. I have been with petplan for over 12 years and over the last 2 years this company has gone so far downhill they shouldn't even be allowed to stay in business. To make matters worse, they have now switched to a Bot system on their website. They have changed their claims system to App access only even though not all customers have or use smart phones or Apps. They have raised their premium costs, lessened their coverage, made it damn near impossible to submit a claim or talk to a live person. They do not return e-mails and for months they have had problems with their system for taking payments and blame it on the banks. They have... Read More

I was told at the beginning that my dog's knees would not be covered for 6 months. I understood that. But today, after TWO YEARS WITH NO CLAIMS, they are refusing to cover my dog's knees because three days into his policy he was DIAGNOSED with a lesser version of a condition that only now requires medical intervention. It's not right. I hope there's a class action against this company soon. They deserve it.

I was a customer up until few minutes ago. Never have I ever had such a runaround to try and get claims paid. They take your premium money real easily but try getting a claim paid. I submitted paperwork 4 times and still they want a fresh copy. I've been with them 4 years and have gotten $0 back. Pain and simple, customer service sux. I

I just cancelled my Petplan insurance because they more than doubled my annual premium to over $928. Although the customer service representatives I spoke with were courteous, the only explanation they had was the raise was due to my zip code and dog's breed. Even if I changed the reimbursement level and annual limit, it would have still been over $600, which was $200 more than I paid last year. This is a total rip off!

I had dreadful experience with PetPlan. They deduct the deductible after the co-pay (so you pay more), and word things such that they try to wiggle out of paying. E.g. halitosis or tartar is a preexisting condition for dental disease (these don’t necessarily constitute disease!). I fought with them extensively. They flat out lied, saying my dog had continuous progressive dental disease, ignoring the excellent comments by a vet (following a dental cleaning). When I finally complained to the State of CA, they finally agreed to pay. I cancelled the policy, never to go back. Also, not that their rates increase enormously as years progress, costing in the thousands of dollars.

I am very dissapointed with this insurance. We carried this coverage for 6 years since we got our dog as a 6 week old puppy with only one minor claim. Now she needed surgery for a possible cancerous growth on her lip and a tooth extraction totaling over $600.00. The payout to us was $1.00. I called to try to understand and was told they applied a deductible to each procedure as if they were separate items. We will cancel and look for a better policy. Beware the small print. Our dedcutible also went up and we did not realize that.

Company Rep of Fetch Pet Insurance
Hi Melody, thank you for sharing your feedback. We appreciate the opportunity to review your policy and respond. I understand your concern if you were expecting more reimbursement from your claim. The per condition deductible is applied to each claimed condition and needs to be met once a policy year after your chosen copay is applied. Once your deductible is met for the policy year, all future claims for that same condition would be eligible at your chosen reimbursement rate. We would be happy to help further is you need any assistance. Please email us at help@gopetplan.com and we'll be sure to respond, thank you.

Are your reviews independent and impartial? Because our 13-year experience with Petplan has been very different, especially since they changed underwriters a few years ago. Django has had PetPlan insurance for 13 years and for the first 10 years all we did was pay premiums faithfully and never made a claim. In the last year, he started having some issues. He's recovered and is doing great, but he had a lot of claims. As a result, PetPlan increased his premium by more than $100/month, reduced his coverage dramatically, and urged us by phone to cancel or reduce coverage even more because "he is old". That's how much they care. Audrey is 10 and has had Petplan insurance since she was... Read More

The original company I signed on with was fairly reasonable, with rates increasing yearly. When it merged each year the payments rose. This year and last year they raised the yearly rate nearly 55 %. A $ 600.00 difference ! So each each as the dog gets older they add 55% OR HIGHER to your annual cost. They cannot give you a sliding scale of the payments/versus age- going forward yearly. It is what ever they feel like charging. it is highway robbery. Apparently all this happened with the new underwriters . We take out insurance to help with the cost of our animals. Not to be ripped off , I am contacting BBB. I feel this is an injustice- how c an a premium each year go up 55 %... Read More

Years back, before they switched underwriters they were a great company. We got a rescue dog and I bought insurance then took her to the vet. They noted that she needed teeth cleaning. We took her in a few months later for the cleaning and she needed teeth extracted. PetPlan refused to pay out because they noted the need for teeth cleaning in the initial visit. I wanted to cancel, because why am I paying for this if they are just going to find any way out of paying. I had to call and when I told them my problem, she boiled it down to pre-existing concern. So they have no intention of taking my issue seriously or offering better service, just file it under a generic header as a "me" problem... Read More

Hi Katie - like all pet insurance providers, we are unfortunately unable to cover pre-existing conditions. It's very common for pets to have dental issues and over 80% of dogs over the age of three have some form of dental disease. That being said, insurance is still a valuable safeguard because it can still cover any other new conditions or accidents that occur over the course of your pet's life that are unrelated to the pre-existing condition itself.
