Breakdown

Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

Benefit Limits - 5 / 5

Fetch's maximum annual payouts can range from $5,000 to unlimited.

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Maximum Percent Reimbursement

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Pricing: How much does Fetch cost?

Cost - 3 / 5

Fetch also prides itself on offering more coverage than any other provider. They offer premium pet insurance and that means they are not the cheapest. Pricing is based on your pets age, breed and location.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

I've had PetPlan for 9 years for one Golden and 5 years for another. I have been very happy with the customer service. My latest health concern was cancer for my 9 year old. I have had many claims. My happiness manager, Jennifer Grasso, has helped take some of the stress away. She keeps in touch with me and is always asking about my pets and makes sure my claims go through in a timely manner. I strongly recommend PetPlan!

I am so thankful I have Petplan for my dog Zoey, who unfortunately has an ongoing issue that Petplan is covering. She also recently has been limping and has been to the vet twice for this and we're still unsure what the cause is and Petplan has covered the expenses for this as well. I recently submitted four claims for both the ongoing issue and limping and when I realized my claims were taking a little longer than usual to be completed, I contacted Petplan and spoke with Gina. She made sure I didn't have to wait much longer for my claims to be completed and she notified me that they were done the day after I spoke with her. Thank you Petplan and Gina!

I have been with Petplan Pet Insurance for several years now. Just recently in the past year and a half my yorkie has experienced pancreatitis which led to exocrine pancreatic insufficiency and diabetes. Without Petplan I am not sure I would have been able to get the best treatment for my baby. They are awesome. Turnaround time for claims is so quick! When your pet is ill, the last thing you should be thinking of is how to pay for meds, tests, visits, etc. Petplan has given me peace of mind.

My three fur-babies have been insured with Petplan since they were puppies. They are now 12, 10, and 10 years old. I have not had to use my insurance until recently when one of my dachshunds Gracie was diagnosed with mammory cancer. She needed 2 operations since the lumpectomy did not work and she needed to have the whole line of memory glands on one side removed. Thank goodness she's doing great and needed no chemotherapy. Petplan is a lifesaver to me knowing if ever my babies get sick their treatments will be very affordable for me. I put the claim in for Gracie and received a check in the mail within two weeks. Everyone I've spoken to at Petplan were so nice and always asked how... Read More

I have had PetPlan Insurance for 9 years. I have never had a claim, but have renewed my insurance with the staff direct every year and they are wonderful, Gina Blair was outstanding and Tammy and all the other staff are very knowledgeable and very helpful. I won;t claim they are the most competitive rates, they were the best when I first purchased 9 yrs ago, but rates have been raised after 3 yrs at least 40% each year with no claims, so if I was to purchase again I would have to make an assessment of their costs. Pet insurance is very expensive as is our pets care, but it is an investment for the health risks we face with our pets. Hope I never have to use it, but I know Pet Plan will... Read More

PetPlan is the best, and so easy to work with! We have submitted quite a few claims this year, and we have a check in the mail within two weeks of submitting a claim, no questions asked! Filing a claim is so easy to do online. We were undecided on whether or not we should get pet insurance when we got a puppy, but we are SO glad we went with PetPlan. I recommend it to everyone that has a pet!

Petplan is a total life saver! I have two Alaskan Malamutes and I had their insurance through Petplan for two years. Until now, I am 100% satisfied with Petplan insurance service, I think in some circumstance, Petplan is better than my own human insurance plan. My dog, Sugar, has unspecified allergy since last year, we visited multiple general vets and dermatologist, had several exam and surgery, and Petplan backed us up! I would never find the right dermatologist for Sugar without the help of Petplan. Not to mention the bill for sedation and reverse in every surgery (that's quite a bit for a dog over 100lbs), Petplan got you covered. All you need to do is take photos of your invoice... Read More

n March 26, 2014, I met my best friend at the local shelter. Riley Coyote is the spunkiest, happiest American Eskimo pup. This past Spring, Riley fell and broke his arm. What I had thought was a clumsy move turned out to be bone cancer. And worse, it had travelled. In a matter of days, we were talking amputation, x-rays, chemotherapy. My head was spinning. We went through all the treatment. When things started to calm down, I remembered I had bought pet insurance. Now I am a human surgeon, and I am quite weary of insurance companies. I was not sure how this was going to go. Were they going to make it very difficult to get compensated? Was there a lot of fine print that would... Read More

My cockapoo has been insured by Petplan since she was a pup. We found out she had a serious condition caused by her rabies vaccine. Petplan has covered all her treatments by a dermatologist and everything since. Claims are always processed quickly without hassle. I would recommend to anyone getting a new pet. Now that my dog is 10 years old, the premiums are high for top of the line coverage, but we get out money's worth.

I have been very happy with PetPlan insurance. I got it when I first brought Tyler home as a puppy. I knew I never wanted to not be able to have a medical test or procedure done because of cost so I signed up. We used it sporadically for a few years but when Tyler was 6 he experience seizures. We raced to the vet who sent us to a neurologist, who ordered an MRI. I was scared to death. I had enough to worry about with his health much less worry where the money would come from to pay for tests and treatment. We got a diagnosis and Tyler is on medications and needs to have his bloodwork done every few months for a pheno level and to see the effect on his liver function. He also sees his... Read More
