Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

Benefit Limits - 5 / 5

Fetch's maximum annual payouts can range from $5,000 to unlimited.

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Maximum Percent Reimbursement

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Pricing: How much does Fetch cost?

Cost - 3 / 5

Fetch also prides itself on offering more coverage than any other provider. They offer premium pet insurance and that means they are not the cheapest. Pricing is based on your pets age, breed and location.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

We signed up our rescued Maltese mix dog, Ziggy, when we got him five years ago. We've made several claims, all of which have been handled quickly and efficiently. Everyone I've spoken to at PetPlan has been exceptionally friendly and helpful - if only insurance for humans were such a pleasure to work with! Ziggy was just diagnosed with mitral valve insufficiency and will require care for the rest of his life. We are so grateful for the security of knowing that his ongoing care will be affordable.

We have been very pleased with PetPlan. I am impressed with the ease of submitting a claim online, and the service has allowed us to continue treating a difficult injury for our dog. Insurance always feels too expensive and I wish they'd cover more than 70% (but this could mean we need a different plan), but they have been responsive and understanding to each of our claims. For expensive claims, they even expedite the process and get us a check within a week. Overall, very happy with the service and grateful for their help.

My three-year-old Chihuahua-Pomeranian mix, Dany, first became sick in late May 2017 and was diagnosed with pancreatitis. Two weeks later, she became sick again and could not stop throwing up. She spent several days at the pet hospital and was eventually diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. The vomiting had severely damaged her esophagus, and shortly after she came home, she began regurgitating even soft food and could barely eat anything. In just a few weeks, her weight had dropped from fourteen pounds to less than ten, and it was impossible for her to gain weight. She had to have a feeding tube in order to get enough food. Two months later, Dany is slowing gaining weight again and... Read More

It was very clear this time that my cat did not have any pre-existing conditions that would prevent the payment, as I have experienced in the past. They agreed to pay all charges, minus the $200 deductible which was fair. They agreed to pay within an hour of submitting the claims. There were initially some problems with their online submission process but they corrected it and I was able to do it all online instead of mailing it in, as in the past.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience regarding a recent claim you submitted to Petplan. I'm glad we were able to get the technical issue resolved so you could complete your submission online. We hope the treatment your kitty received is helping resolve the reason for your recent visit to the vet.

My husband and I have been with Petplan for over 20 years now both in the UK and in the USA. We have had many bears (dogs) during this time. We have been fortunate enough to share our homes, money, food, cars and sofas with the hairy critters but unfortunately two of our bears during this time have required many surgeries and treatments. Our last bear who is still living at home is Katie, she is a 10 1/2 year old Newfoundland. Over Katie's life time she has had five major surgeries which alone would have cost us over $10,000 which we would have struggled to pay if it wasn't for the insurance. Not once has Petplan ever come back to us and said 'Sorry, you are not covered', and for this we... Read More

Save your money. Pet Plan is a money pit of high premiums that go up every year. In year seven I now pay $1450.00/yr And I have had total paid claims over the 7 years of $250.00. Late last year their underwriter dropped them. The new underwriter is forcing me to go from $200 deductible to $500. And copay up to 30% from 20. People-- don't get taken in. Put a few dollars away per month in a pet fund and you'll be way ahead. I'm out several thousand dollars that I will never get back.

PetPlan has been great for us. We're not sure how we would afford our dog's medical bills without them. The claim process is easy and quick. We have recommended PetPlan to friends and family alike. They are always easy to get a hold of on the phone to answer questions about the policy and coverage.

Excellent customer service. I spoke to Gina yesterday when I called in for information on starting a policy for my new puppy. I called in with very little knowledge I am afraid, but Gina walked me through the plan and answered all my guestions (and there were a lot). Gina was very informative and super friendly. Thanks pet plan and Gina, I will be calling back ASAP to sign up my fur baby.

PetPlan is definitely a top above A+ insurance with technology on its side, filing a claim is a breeze with the iPhone app. It only took me 5 minutes to file the claim and a few weeks to get reimbursed.

We have been with PetPlan for many years, and have insured a total of 6 dogs with them to date. They have always come through, through many different surgeries, medications, illnesses, etc with no issues. One of our current dogs just had FHO surgery and the reimbursement check arrived 3 days after I submitted the claim! They are currently covering his physical therapy. We are a multiple dog household, so we cannot afford to be without good pet insurance. I never want to be in a position that I can't pay for the care my animals need. They also have covered euthanasia, even when someone comes to the home. The care and concern shown by their staff even on social media, after an animal... Read More
