How Do We Rate Fetch?

Breakdown

5.0/5
Coverage
3.0/5
Cost
4.5/5
Extras

Our Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

Benefit Limits - 5 / 5

Fetch's maximum annual payouts can range from $5,000 to unlimited.

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

PetPlan is by far a must for me and my family. The representatives are incredibly helpful with not only making sure we are taken care of from a financial perspective, but also a personal perspective. For example, I called PetPlan because I accidentally submitted one too many claims, and Emily Briggs was my representative. Through conversation, she fixed the claims, which was the primary purpose of the call. She could have ended the conversation and went to the next caller, but she didn't. What took it to the next level was our conversation and she noticed how much I had in claims and made it a priority to get them processed, which was done the next business day. However, it did not stop... Read More

Been using Petplan for 10 years. Regina was awesome and helped me lower my rates, now that I've moved to an area without wolves. :) When I have had claims in the past everything goes smoothly and it seems like everything is continuing to go well at Petplan. Happy customer here.

I would like to personally thank and extend my sincere appreciation to Emily Briggs for her continuing help and support with my Golden Retriever, Beckett. He's been going through a rough time, first with a mast cell tumor that initially started out as an ACL repair. I was shocked and very concerned when the tumor was found, which delayed the surgery for his ACL repair. Emily has been extremely compassionate and supportive during this process. This is my first experience having pet insurance so the protocols were a bit confusing at first. Emily has walked me through everything and has been very diligent in following up on the proper paperwork and getting everything processed through... Read More

I'm submitting my letter to Petplan representative as a means of reviewing. You can see that this company is not easy to deal with anymore and has many issues. Here's what I wrote: Hi Kim, Thank you for the link. I may use it, but don't count on positive comments from me. I'm still waiting on a claim for 3 invoices dated 2/27 to 2/28 totaling $670.78. I finally received another claim for same dates but different receipts after over a month. I'd questioned what was happening with Elle's claims and was told that my vet had not responded with proper paper work. I contacted my vet, and they would beg to differ. They did, indeed, send in the paper work via email when originally... Read More

We've been with Petplan for about 5 years. Until yesterday, I was happy with their service. We have an epileptic pug and having this insurance saved his life at least twice. But they changed underwriters and are drastically jacking up their premiums. To insure our dog at the same level, it would cost $600 more a year, a 57% increase. Other companies won't insure his preexisting conditions so we're either stuck with Petplan and breaking the bank, or taking a big risk with our dog's health without it. The lives of many pets depend on this company and it's unacceptable that they are pulling a switch and bait like this.

I normally would have rated Petplan with 5 stars because they have been exceptional in terms of handling claims. Unfortunately, I just received my renewal paperwork and the new pricing structure is completely untenable. It was bad enough when I moved from VT to NH two years ago and they doubled my premiums, but this new underwriter has required my premiums to double AGAIN and I cannot stand by and continue to pay out the nose for this. I have four cats that have policies through Petplan and I intend to find all but one a new company. My one cat has a pre-existing condition, so I fear removing him from the plan. If I can find a company that will take him and his issues then I will move him... Read More

I had been with Pet Plan for over 10 years. I will say customer service is GREAT!! With the change in underwriters premiums have doubled with less coverage. I was told by their representatives that their previous underwriter had gone out of the pet insurance business and they were forced to find a new one. My premium is now $1300.09 per year with a $400 deductible and 90% coverage. I dropped them last night before the renewal. I am better off having my own personal savings account for my dog's expenses In the long run I'll save money.....Something to think about!!.

I can no longer recommend PetPlan. With their new underwriter, my 9-year-old dog's insurance doubled from $570/year to over $1070 per year, for the same coverage. Also, when I inquired about the annual deductible, he was denied. Apparently a pet can only have an annual deductible if they are young and you have no claims. Why advertise this? If you do get it, you likely won't get the annual deductible the next year, if you submit a claim. I currently have four pets insured with PetPlan, and have had insurance with them for over 10 years, but will never go with them again with any new pets. Way too pricey now, and I don't have any confidence that any new claims will be paid, given... Read More

I have had 3 cat pet insurance policies since 2013. My premiums were $500.00 a year $10000 limte $200 deductible. Pet Plan has a new underwriter X_Catlin. When I called to change my address they wanted to charge me more increase (prorate all three polices). All three policies were going up $79 to $100.00 per year for the same coverage. I have worked as an property and casualty insurance writer this is not justifiable. I cancelled all three policies and will be searching elsewhere to spend my $500.00 cash on pet insurance. They do not even give a multi policy discount and yet they expect to be charging the same as auto insurance. Sad
