Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

I just started my insurance with petplan. I had an issue with changing my dogs age once we go an accurate estimate age from our vet after adopting her from the humane society and Gina was very helpful with switching everything over. She made it so easy and exciting when we got our new policy back!

I've insured all my pets with Petplan for almost a decade now I(I usually have between 4-8 cats and dogs at any one time) and I can't say enough good things about them. I've had diabetic and asthmatic animals requiring ongoing medical support for multiple years and there has never been a question about continued coverage. I've also had two GSDs who both had back issues and I was covered for physical therapy that really helped them both. I can budget for routine health care and monthly preventative treatments, but I never want to be in a position where I have to make a life or death decision for any one of my furry family based on my financial capacity rather than medical and quality of... In September, our miniature dachshund LuLu, was operated on for bladder stones. Many stones were removed during the first operation. However, the sutures on her bladder did not dissolve. Another operation was performed at the end of February removing scar tissue from her bladder. One week later, Lulu is back to her normal self again. Petplan has been there for us and LuLu through these operations. Operations are stressful enough without having to worry about medical bills.

Petplan has been a true blessing to my family and my beloved Lab "Rex"! I have had insurance coverage on Rex his entire life and at age 9, he began to have problems related to IVDD. Thousands & thousands of dollars later, Petplan has reimbursed me 100% after a $200 deductible in a single year. Their claim process is extremely easy and the turn around for reimbursement is only a couple of weeks. Their customer service department is also very polite, helpful and caring. Professionalism at all levels within this company! With out this coverage, our angel's healthcare would be jeopardized as we could not afford this very expensive surgeries, MRI's, medicines and treatment. I try to tell... Read More

My dog swallowed a sock and some other items. I was very concerned not only about my pets ability to recover but the astronomical cost incurred. When I spoke with Emily at Pet Plan, she eased my concerns and displayed empathy and concern fir my situation. Emily reassured me that my clsim woukd be expedited. Emily took the extra step in triaging my claim to an Adjuster to allay my concerns and notified me the same day that my claim was approved. I am very grateful for the quality of care and service I received from Pet PLan. I highly recommend Pet Plan for anyone looking to purchase quality pet insurance. Ron Astroff

My puppy has had several surgeries. I had to repeatedly call to ensure they received the claim ( I sent all claims via fax and email). Once the claim was "found" on their end, reimbursement was quick. I called to ask about specific services I was looking into. Was told by a PP representative that it would be covered and to not worry, they pay for anything that gets the pet better. Making my decision based on what they told me, I found out the services were actually not covered after the fact. I found out via a letter in the mail. Because I made my decision based on what they told me, even though it was incorrect, they will not reimburse and I am being penalized. Pet Plan- do the... Read More

We purchased a pet plan policy for our mixed-breed puppy about a year ago when we adopted him. it felt good to have the protection, especially sense he turned out to be a compulsive chewer, and we had no idea if that might lead to stomach problems or anything like that. I probably wouldn't have thought twice about staying with them for at least another year, but then we got a notice in the mail that our premiums were changing for the next year, so I took a closer look at PP compared to other companies. First, their increase in premiums was RIDICULOUS. They "suggested" a new plan for me that had a worse deductible, an unlimited annual payout (we already had a high annual payout... so... Read More

Have had Petplan for seven years. They changed underwriters. Deductible more than doubled and premiums increased. Deductible is per condition. Option for single deductible because my pet has two conditions which they have covered since she was a puppy. Between deductible and coinsurance I can't see them ever paying again unless she has extremely serious condition. Catastrophic coverage now at best. Waste of money.

I have had health insurance for my (now 8 year old) rescue Maltese mix dog since I got her from the pound a little over 5 years ago. I had fairly recently lost my previous two dogs when I adopted Lucy, who was approximately 3 years old at the time I adopted her. After what I went through with healthcare expenses for these dogs, I decided to protect myself and Lucy from EVER have to make a health-related choice based on cost alone. I started out with a different company, but after researching the Maltese breed (I wasn't even sure WHAT she was when I originally adopted her--she was too overgrown to recognize the breed), I decided to switch to Petplan just in CASE Lucy developed problems with...
