Breakdown

Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

Benefit Limits

Benefit Limits - 5 / 5

Fetch's maximum annual payouts can range from $5,000 to unlimited.

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Maximum Percent Reimbursement

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Pricing: How much does Fetch cost?

Cost - 3 / 5

Fetch leverages their 15 years of data to determine the most accurate pricing based on your pet’s breed, age and your location. Fetch also prides itself on offering more coverage than any other provider. They offer premium pet insurance and that means they are not the cheapest. Pricing is based on your pets age, breed and location.

Enrollment & Waiting Periods

Enrollment - 3.8 / 5

For illnesses, the waiting period is up to 15 days.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

I have had Petplan for about 5 years and have been generally happy with them up until now. It's brought a lot of peace of mind just knowing that if something happened, I wouldn't have to make that horrible decision. Well my cat was diagnosed with cancer in November. This year my premium increased by over 100% as well as my (per condition) deductible. They blame it on getting a new underwriter. Be very wary of this company.

I have to give Pat Plan the lowest possible rating because of extremely poor practose and customer services. Not just tardy and disrespectful but really dishonest and unreasonable. I'm truly disappointed with them ....even when I asked for clarification it seems they did not explain properly what was covered and not covered or when. They encouraged me to take Pet to vet and ended up sticking me with a massive bill for absolutely nothing - a trip I didn't need to make. Worst of all they take the phone call where We clearly had a bad long but I heard him say that "(every)thing in today's visit would be covered by the plan " in a very happy voice and I answered "thank you". turns out... We have the million dollar boxer, Boudreaux. He's always doing something and sees the vet all the time. Thank goodness for Pet Plan insurance! They pay his claims quickly and never give me any grief.

The insurance coverage, customer service, and reimbursement process is excellent. I've had Petplan insurance for my dog for 9 years and frankly, it's better than my own health insurance. My only compliant is that the annual premium increases significantly as the dog ages. My premiums began under $200 and are now over $700.

Firstly, if you have a dog you should have pet insurance. It's peace of mind for you and your furry family. And if you are shopping around for insurance, I recommend going with Petplan. I've been with them since 2011 and super happy with them. If I was to get another pet, I'd use Pet Plan again for sure.

Petplan is the best thing that ever happened to my canine family! I have 2 rescue dogs. When I got the first one someone suggested I get pet insurance. I did a TON of research and Petplan came out on top by FAR. Claims are easy to make, response and turn around time is FAST, and customer service is always friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, our older dog Sophie (12) was recently diagnosed with bladder cancer. If it weren't for Petplan we LITERALLY would not be able to afford to treat her. She is getting Chemo and doing GREAT! And today I was pleasantly surprised by receiving a phone call from Kim, a Petplan rep. I kept waiting to hear some kind of bad news, like a claim delay... I have been with them 4 yrs. each yr it goes up. I got off the phone with a rude rep. She stammered and couldn't answer few simple questions. My dogs policies expire April 1. Wanted to ask about the new plan. She said we already started them. I said they don't renew until April 1. Pfft customers who can't read she mumbled. I said excuse me I am well educated your passive aggressive behavior is not needed. I said the paper in front of me reads April 1. Any how long story short requested call back from her boss. Call back in a que leave a message. Use my cell and get Katie again. I said that was rude doing that to me. Asked for her boss. Oh they will be in at 9am. I said madam you may be... Read More

Terrible service.... Won't return calls after you file a claim. Rejected a claim that a urinary tract blockage was a preexisting condition. Cat had a blockage a year before. Blockages don't work like that. He would have been dead if he had been blocked a full year. More importantly, they couldn't explain why it was rejected. Very poor service. It seems like the only outreach they do is renewal time. So many annoying, unwanted emails. I'm taking my business elsewhere.

I have 5 of my dogs insured with Petplan and unfortunately my dogs have had many expensive health issues. Petplan has paid for everything as promised, never a problem with reimbursement. My only gripe is that after years of being insured, my dogs are now 9 years old and their premiums are now getting so much more expensive that I will have to drop their insurance.
