How is Fetch rated?

Breakdown

Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

Benefit Limits - 5 / 5

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

I have been a loyal Petplan customer for many years now and always believed that what I paid and what I got in return was fair all involved. Today I got a notice indicating that my existing policy was not going to be renewed because Petplan was getting a new underwriter. I currently pay an annual premium of $1275 for my 11 yr old beagle with a $200 deductible and 90% coverage. Now with their new policy in order for me to get the same level of coverage my annual premium would be $2800. OVER DOUBLE. I find this to be completely unacceptable and am seriously considering switching insurers. If I had a new pet I would NOT recommend anyone paying these new costs.

I can't say enough about how great Pet Plan has been to us. Our sweet Murphy has been through so much, and they have always been fast, efficient, empathetc and kind. Kim Boone called this morning to check on Murphy and to see if we had any questions. She was very compassionate and we really appreciate it .

I took out Petplan insurance about 6 years ago for my toy poodle, Molly. I am SO glad I kept it each year even though I never had to use it much until recently. A few months ago, Molly started gagging and coughing and had several visits to her vet which resulted in some testing and some big bills, but not a definite diagnosis. I took her to a second vet who still did not completely figure out the problem, so we went to a THIRD vet that someone recommended. He immediately did ultrasound, EKG, echocardiogram, chest x rays, upper endoscopy with biopsies of her stomach and small intestine, and a lymph node biopsy. This resulted in large vet bills. Also, unrelated to all that, Molly broke a... Read More

I have been a Petplan customer for quite some time. Recently, our dog broke a tooth and pulp exposure required a triple root canal to avoid infection and tooth loss. I got pre-authorization from Petplan without a problem and was able to get our dog in with the vet dentist in time to avoid further complications. After the procedures I corresponded with Emily at Petplan. She made sure that I would submit the right paperwork and final invoice etc. in order to get reimbursed quickly as it was quite a large bill. Emily was extremely helpful, kind and professional and only enhanced my very positive experience with Petplan.

BEWARE! Petplan is not what it used to be! They have a new underwriter and premiums have SKYROCKETED!! The premium, for my cat, was $531.04 with a $200 deductible per condition, per policy term, 80% reimbursement, and a $10,000 annual allowance. That will now cost me $1350.02!!! The best option they're offering is a premium of $806.34 with a deductible of $500 per condition, per policy term, 70% reimbursement, and a $15,000 annual allowance. I had three cats insured with them over the last several years and felt they were fair about most things including premium increases. Two of my cats (now deceased) had quite a few claims submitted and service was always prompt and friendly. My last... Read More

We have submitted 2 claims for our 7 month old puppy and Petplan paid nothing on both claims. They decided that there would be a lifetime exclusion for all dental work because my dog has inherited an overbite even though they claim to cover non routine dental work and hereditary conditions. This company looked at my puppies' health records and excluded everything they possibly could--what's left? Not much. Also, to add insult to injury, they put in a note that we needed to follow everything our vet suggested or that could be a reason for denying a claim. Now my ability to make decisions about what is best for my puppy has been taken away and I am at the mercy of whatever the vet says... Read More

Hi Deborah - While no pet insurance provider can cover a pre-existing condition, we want you to feel empowered as a Petplan policyholder to make the best decisions for your pet's care. It is clear from your comment that we have not yet done so, and I would like to help understand why. Please send me an email at socialmedia@gopetplan.com so we can review your denied claims and underwriting and make you feel more confident in the coverage you have purchased. Thank you - Keith

Insurance, for any reason, is one of life's little burdens we all grumble about. So the question is, are better having it or not? We all know the answer, or you wouldn't be shopping here. I, of course had to learn the hard way - several thousand dollars of pet vet bills for a young dog told me that it could happen again. Enter Petplan. I did shop around and their rates, services and compensation plan were [are] the best. Unfortunately I've had to make several claims and each time Petplan has been there for us from moment one. I only wish they handled my car insurance. 5 STARS !!!!!

Pet plan is great! I have had to file several claims on my yorkie and every time it was very easy and user friendly. Never had any hassles and did not have to worry about being reimbursed promptly. If you don't have PetPlan insurance on your pet I strongly recommend it! Thank you PetPlan!!!
