Breakdown

Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

Fetch's maximum annual payouts can range from $5,000 to unlimited.

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

We purchased Petplan insurance for all of our dogs several years ago after our 2 year-old Labrador retriever "Gizmo" tore both CCLs and required 2 TPLO surgeries and a patellar luxation - costing us about $7,000 that was not in the budget. We could have never known that years later our Petplan insurance would save the life of another of our dogs - diagnosed with a nasal carcinoma in 2013, our Labrador retriever "Tiki" has incurred in excess of $12,000 (and counting) in medical bills due to her 2013 radiation treatments and now her 2016 recurrence of the nasal tumor. Tiki is with us today because of her Petplan insurance, because without it we could never have afforded her treatments. I... Read More

Our six year old tuxedo house cat slipped out the door somehow and was missing for six weeks until spotted in a neighbors yard. He was 17 pounds beforehand and lost 7 pounds while on the lamb. When found he was dehydrated and had become anorexic. The veterinariam diagnosed him with hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver) disease due to starvation while living in the wild. After several days of unsuccessful attempts to stimulate his appetite, an esophogeal feeding tube was placed. The liver disease was compounded by pancreatitis and resulting diabetes, which requires an insulin dosage. The cat is slowly improving with reversal of jaundice yellowing with increased activity and more... Read More

Our dog got critically ill with pneumonia and needed a stay in the ICU to recover. At 16 her chances were slimmer than for a younger dog. Having Petplan made the decisions we had to make less stressful as we felt like we had a partner in our dog's health. Since she was able to get great care she pulled through and we will have more time with our best friend/furry family member.

My dog is now 1 year old, but when we purchased Pet Plan, she was only 8-weeks-old, paying about $ 35 monthly with $ 200 deductible. I didn't know the deductible is based on "per condition"; this is what happened; so my dog twisted her ankle when she did her run, and we went to emergency, the bill was $ 430, great, I paid and filed the claim, with the deductible $ 200, and 80% coverage, I got $ 184; then another claim was when my dog's paw was infected because it's too wet and humid by walking in the rain so much, the cost was $ 154; when I thought about getting some money back because I have used up the deductible $ 200, then it's wrong; I called, and the representative explained to me... Hi Gagakiki, you make a lot of good points in your review in regards to the per condition deductible, and I can understand why you're upset. I think it may be helpful to talk to one of our Happiness Managers who can better explain all the "in's and out's" of your policy, as well as how it all works, and why it's still beneficial for you. Petplan has been excellent to work with! Their customer service is very helpful and they reimburse claims in a fast and easy process done through an app on the phone. If you have a loved pet, it is essential to get them pet insurance.

We LOVE petplan. They never give us trouble when our sweet little cavalier comes in with astronomical bills from the vet! They have covered his pneumonia, Lyme Disease, Giardia, AND full Knee Surgery. They are helpful on the phone, have great customer service, and are true to their word. If only human medical insurance was quite this easy!

Petplan is absolutely amazing..really came through for me and my dog. My JRT had a nasal tumor 2 years ago and we went through 18 radiation treatments for her. Her doctor gave her a clean bill of health after the treatments, but unfortunately the tumor returned. We started radiation again and again Petplan is coming through for us. Pets unfortunately dont have the same level of patient advocates as humans, and the cost of treating a pet with cancer is similar to treating a human. I would do anything for my dog, but Petplan is making that discussion much much easier. I will never go without Petplan insurance for any of my current or future pets.

We had an excellent experience with Petplan insurance. We have a six year old Lasalier named Lola. Lola is a wonderful, sweet, lovable dog and we love her very much. This year Lola had a tough time. In August, she tore her ACL in her back right leg and needed surgery. Lola had surgery in September; the surgery went well and Lola was healing beautifully. A month later in October Lola jumped off our bed and herniated a disc. The disc was pressing into Lola's spine and she didn't have use of her hind legs. It was devastating for our family to see Lola this way and we were so worried about her. Lola needed a MRI and required another surgery to remove the herniated disc. Her second surgery... Read More

My 1 year old Pekingese was diagnosed with encephalitis. Over a 6 month period, we made 2 trips to Penn Vet, an ER visit, multiple visits to my vet, as well as an acupuncturist , and lots of expensive medicines. Pet Plan paid out over $10,000 in claims. The whole process for submitting claims was simple. The claims were all paid within 2 weeks, and Pet Plan never questioned any of the claims. If it were not for PetPlan, I could not have afforded the level of care I was able to provide

Our dog, Scooter, had started to limp from time to time and, after not seeing any improvement, we went to our vet to have it checked out and they diagnosed him with elbow dysplasia. We were then referred to a canine orthopedic specialist who took x-rays and corroborated the initial diagnosis and we agreed on a treatment. We had both our regular vet and the specialist complete/fax the Petplan claim forms and were pleasantly surprised at the speed and ease with which they were paid. We previously had Petplan with our last dog and they were great then as well. I have nothing but good things to say about Petplan and highly recommend them to all dog parents! It's nice to know they've got our... Read More
