Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

I am a veterinarian, and have always advocated for all my clients to get pet insurance. I've had Pet Plan for my own pets since 2009 after my dog ruptured his cruciate and needed TTA surgery by a specialist. always been happy and always recommended to clients and friends. however, they recently changed uunderwriters and changed their entire policy. now, you cannot chose deductibles and copay. Maximum is 70%, with $500 deductible per condition per year. So many of my patients basically got screwed. With many having pre-existing conditions they cannot switch to a different insurance. Unfortunately, most will be canceling and be without coverage now. I will be canceling my policy and have... Read More

Hi Init, I'm really sorry to hear that you're unhappy, but I'd like to make a few clarifications. We did recently switch underwriters, which allowed us to change our policies as well... We created a new, fully customizable policy that gives you the chance to choose your deductible (anywhere from $50-$2,500), and your reimbursement (70%, 80%, or 90%). I think it may be helpful for a Customer Service Manager to reach out to you and explain all of the changes with your policy. Could you please send an email to socialmedia@gopetplan.com with your full name, policy number, and the best phone number to reach you? Thank you very much for your cooperation, Megan Christel, Community Manager

I've had PetPlan for over 6 years now and every time I've needed them they've been there for me and my dog. Most recently my dog had an infected lipoma that was causing him a tremendous amount of pain and required multiple visits to the ER and an eventual surgery to remove it. PetPlan was very quick to process the claim and gave me no issue with applying the deductible once across all the invoices I submitted. I am very satisfied with their customer service and would highly recommend them to any pet owners.

Every time we interact with GoPetPlan, they are great! There are no menus to go through when calling, as someone picks up right away, and they always pay attention to detail and follow up. Highly recommend the company!

We bought the Petplan "insurance" a few days after we got our new dog. Six months later our dog was seriously injured and required surgery and nine follow-up visits at the vet within the next three weeks. Petplan has done their best to weasel out of every single bill! They are counting this illness as ten separate claims and applying a separate $200 deductible to each visit. To make matters worse, they are also claiming that our regular vet has "overcharged" us for every visit and thus they are only considering a portion of the bills to being with! Sorry folks, but this company is a scam!

I have been with this insurance company for 8 years. They are horrible in the way they process claims. My dog acquired a condition early on of seizures. Therefore, I could not leave them and go to another company. What they do with an invoice is divide them into more than one condition and charge your 200 deductible on the different parts. You get nothing. They play all kinds of games with your claims. Do not use them. I have adopted three other pets in these last 8 years and have used a different company for there insurance and have been happy with Healthy Paws.

We are currently experiencing every pet parent's worst nightmare- learning that our dog has cancer. We obtained Petplan insurance for our soon-to-be seven-year-old Doberman, Scarlet, along with two of our other dogs when they were very young. I can't say enough about the entire Petplan Insurance organization. They have responded promptly, efficiently, and with extreme compassion from the second that we had to rush Scarlet to our vet 3 weeks ago, to her being transferred to an Emergency Specialty Clinic, and to now receiving weekly chemotherapy treatments. She also receives Physical Therapy two times weekly to help regain the use of her back legs, which she lost partial use of. Each and... Read More

I have had Pet Plan for 2 dogs, now. I'd made a spreadsheet comparing All the plans available from different companies & Pet Plan was the Only one that met All the criteria I had set as I'd studied the various plans. The staff at PP is knowledgeable, caring & the turn-around time on paying claims very quick. They are clear re. what info they need so the pet owner is sure what to send & they make it clear what claims each payment is for which, if there is a lengthy illness/injury is a Huge help to the pet owner! When the 1st dog I insured w/ them unfortunately did die - they sent the payment in a sympathy card with a packet of Forget-Me-Not seeds. Which to me sums up the caring of the... Read More

I cannot say enough about how wonderful Petplan Pet Insurance is. Unfortunately, my Golden has had his share of afflictions, and we have had to use the insurance a lot over the years. They cover what they say they will and they pay extremely fast. I normally receive the check before my credit card bill is due. After they created the app for the smart phones, submitting claims is even easier. I recommend Petplan every chance I get to everyone who asks about pet insurance.
