Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

Benefit Limits

Benefit Limits - 5 / 5

Fetch's maximum annual payouts can range from $5,000 to unlimited.

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Pricing: How much does Fetch cost?

Cost - 3 / 5

Fetch leverages their 15 years of data to determine the most accurate pricing based on your pet’s breed, age and your location. Fetch also prides itself on offering more coverage than any other provider. They offer premium pet insurance and that means they are not the cheapest. Pricing is based on your pets age, breed and location.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

You couldn't ask for better people to be taking care of you and your furry family in stressful times. We've had 2 scares with our little one and both times they were extremely kind, fast and the plans are what they are, no fine print that leaves you with actually nothing. What would have cost us 7500 cost $200 and we had our refund in 2 weeks. They also let me sob on the phone, twice. I can't say enough great things.

Our stubborn and clumsy bulldogge has been covered by PetPlan for the past 5 years since he was a puppy, and boy has he used his benefits! Petplan is totally affordable (especially compared to costs we would have incurred without it!) and their customer service is top-notch. You can email, chat, call, and all forms of communication are responded to immediately and in a friendly way. They process claims within a few weeks and I've never had any issues getting reimbursed. I highly recommend them and will continue to use them for the life of my dog. I don't ever want money to be the final factor in the decision of whether or not this bundle of slobber and love lives or dies and Petplan makes... Read More

Beware!!! Our Labrador retrievers (2) have been covered by PetPlan for the past 6 years. I am VERY unhappy with this company and do not recommend it. Sally, one of our "girls" had been treated for an infection between her toe pads while under a different pet insurance company. About a year after signing with PetPlan, Sally developed ear infection.....PetPlan declined to cover this condition and further ear problems, claiming that Sally's toe-pad infection was considered a "pre-exisiting" condition to her ear infection. After another year or so, Sally started experiencing "hot spots" ......yep, not covered due to her "pre-existing" toe pad infection. By this time, while Sally... Read More

I have been with Petplan since we got our Yorkiepoo 6 1/2 years ago. For most people who have pets, you know that they become members of the family. I knew I would become attached to "Rambo" all 17 lbs of him when we got him. I also knew that I never wanted to be in a position where I contemplated putting him down because a procedure was too expensive. In doing my research, I felt that Petplan offered the best options and when I called to talk with them, they even explained things that helped me save more money. There representatives are incredibly friendly and understanding. I keep telling friends to please get pet insurance even if it's not Petplan so that they don't have to be... Read More

Was great for past 9 years, but the recent changes by new underwriter XL Speciality Insurance has terribly expensive options that make no sense compared to other options in the marketplace. I will leave as soon as I can get other insurance in place.

Hi Karen, I'm really sorry to hear that you're unhappy with the underwriter changes, and I understand why you're concerned. Yes there have been premium increases, but there are also some new options that have been introduced with the new plan as well. I think it may be helpful for a Customer Service Manager to reach out and explain all of the changes/options so that you're able to make an informed decision as to how you'd like to proceed. Could you please send an email to socialmedia@gopetplan.com with your full name, policy number, and the best phone number to reach you? Thank you very much for your cooperation, Megan Christel, Community Manager

We recently submitted our first claim for our 10 year old Yorkie. He had been coughing more than normal and we knew it wasn't just kennel cough so we took him to our vet. After examination, we were referred to a cardiologist vet. More extensive testing was done. It was good news in the end, but still left us with nearly $1000 bill between the two vets. Petplan picked up a little over half of the cost after the deductible. Additionally, the servicing of our claim was fast. We were pleasantly surprised and happy with the way our claim was handled. As mentioned, this was our first claim, we didn't know what to expect. The service surpassed our expectations. Highly recommend Petplan.

I have the same experience. I pay $80 a month and they use the deductible to not pay Most vet bills are less than 200 per visit but when you go 1 time a week for 3 weeks to solve a. Condition $$$$. What a game with the per visit deductible. Should be per condition visits Not happy getting letter from Petplan for each. Visit sorry we won't pay. I never write these reviews but I love my pet . And I feel taken advantage of. No benefit for base fee

Hi Flossie - I'm sorry to hear you're unhappy with your experience thus far, but did want to let you know that our per condition deductible is exactly that - per condition, not per visit. We also offer lower deductible options than $200 so you are free to choose a lower deductible if you are finding that your vet visits do not meet the per condition deductible. Most recently, we also introduced an annual deductible to provide even more flexibility to our family members. To allow us to further address your questions, please send an email to socialmedia@gopetplan.com with your full name, policy number, and the best phone number to reach you so that we can alleviate your concerns. Thank you very much for your concern and understanding - Alyssa.
