Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

If I could give this company zero stars, I would. They jacked up premiums and will apply a "coinsurance" to each claim you pay the vet, , even though you pay the vet the full amount. This is to avoid you fulfilling your deductible. I have been a customer for 10 years, and after they were bought out, I say run away as fast as you can!

I have been a customer for over 13 years and have discovered after discussing a recent claim that despite paying £100 per month and having an excess amount of £145, I now have to pay 20% of the overall vet bill aswell!! Was told it is because my dog is old, which I understand is the reason for my month payments increasing and my excess but to add a further penalty payment as 'he's old' (there words not mine) is unfair. So basically am getting TWO charges for my dog living a long life. How it works out: £100 p/m insurance charge £145 excess £65 Blood test £203.80 20% of vets estimate. = £513.80 (vets bill is £1010 so paying nearly half!) Would work out more in my favour if i... Hi Samantha, I'm sorry that your experience with Petplan UK has not been positive. Unfortunately you posted a review to Petplan in the United States. We are separately run companies so I will not be able to address the problems you experienced. I'm sorry I cannot be more helpful. Keyai, Community Manager Petplan North America

I like this company mainly because of their excellent customer service. Everyone I've spoken to has been very helpful but Taylor in particular helped me immensely recently and I am so grateful. My veterinary hospital had forgotten to send in the pre-authorization form for my cat's illness and I needed a quick assessment. She recommended that I email copies of everything directly to her and she took the time to send it on to the claims department herself. She really sped up the process and this is a difficult time for me, so I am extremely grateful! They did end up approving the pre-authorization for the cancer. Earlier when I felt my premiums were getting high, I spoke with another... Read More

We have had an excellent experience with Petplan! Our wheaten poodle mix has had several stomach and allergy issues since we adopted him and I don't know what we would have done without Petplan! My only advice would be to check into the policy and plan for when the coverage actually begins. We didn't realize there was a waiting period once we signed up for treatment coverage and had to pay more from the onset of our policy than we anticipated.

We have had Pet Plan for 7 years. As long as we have had our dogs. This past August was the first time we had to use the insurance. One of our dogs was attacked and had close to $5,000 in medical bills. Originally we had trouble logging into the website, but their IT department sorted it promptly and kept in touch with us. More importantly Jenny, and later Gina "Happiness Managers" did a great job of helping us. We were on vacation and did not receive notice that they needed additional information. When we returned we were worried that it would become a "hassle". However, we emailed Gina. She responded really quickly. Our vet then sent over the information on a Friday, and by... Read More

I have had Petplan Insurance for about five years for my dog Madi. Madi is now eight years old and recently developed an allergy that make her very itchy, which means we have been seeing a Dermatologist. These visits are not cheap, but Petplan has been very good about reimbursing me for my expenses. I recently called Petplan to change some account information and ask about a couple of claims. Nick was very helpful with these matters and even called back the next day to let me know that my claims had been processed and my reimbursement was on the way. I really appreciate his follow-up; which was unexpected.

I have been using Pet Plan for years and have never been disappointed in the coverage. I have a German shepherd and a mixed breed and have had to use my insurance fairly consistently, for the GSD anyway. Recently, my reimbursement check was lost in the mail. No fault of Pet Plan. I spoke with Nick Burns who determined that it had been lost and had a new check sent to me within days. I appreciated his politeness and efficiency. Thanks, Nick and Pet Plan!

What a bad insurance company. Been with them for years and we moved literally 3 miles from our current residence and because my zip cope changed my rate increased 5.00. I am sorry it's a matter of principal. Because I moved this does not make my pet more of a risk.

Petplan has been a great Insurance for my 2 Pugs over the last 6.5 years. They recently had Dental surgery ( both dogs) by a Board Certified Dentist and I was unsure if Petplan would pay. I spoke to 3 awesome reps many times, Blair G, Simone and Tami R ( I seemed to need to call daily for about 2 weeks) my claims were expedited ( without me having to ask) and we got reimbursed almost $4000 within about 10 days. My one pug didn't handle the surgery very well and Petplan paid for a specialist and ER visits, no problem. I recently talked to Blair again and she really cared about my dogs and remembered them, asked how they were. The claims representatives are a big plus for me, they helped... Read More
