Breakdown

Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

Benefit Limits

Benefit Limits - 5 / 5

Fetch's maximum annual payouts can range from $5,000 to unlimited.

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Minimum Percent Reimbursement

Maximum Percent Reimbursement

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Pricing: How much does Fetch cost?

Cost - 3 / 5

Fetch also prides itself on offering more coverage than any other provider. They offer premium pet insurance and that means they are not the cheapest. Pricing is based on your pets age, breed and location.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

We recently switched over to Petplan after reading all the great reviews. I signed up on August 30, 2018. I was informed by a staff member when I signed up that if my dog hadn't had an exam within the previous 60 days prior to the effective date, that I could take him in within the next 30 days and I would be fine. He had had an exam on April 30, 2018 (so not that long before but not within the 60 days). So , I took him in on September 12, 2018. And paid out of pocket for a second wellness exam in the year. At that visit, they discovered a fractured tooth (he is only 4 years old, and has a long life ahead of him). So I submitted the prior authorization for a teeth cleaning and a tooth... Read More

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They spend more time trying to find excuses not to pay out on the policy. Go with a reputable company because when your pet is sick and in need of treatment you do not want to be replying on this company to cover the treatment. My dog needs an operation. 3 weeks later i am waiting for a pre authorisation. They denied the claim because the vet wrote in her reports that the dog had limped prior to my visit to her to have the limp looked at. I have two other vet reports both within 12 months that show dog was seen by a vet and no limp was mentioned. So basically a limp appeared months after adopting and taking out the policy and they wont cover the... Read More

Hi Gillian, I am sorry that your request for a pre-authorization of treatment was denied due to a pre-existing condition. If you would like to speak with a Petplan team member to review our decision, please send an email to socialmedia@gopetplan.com and I will have a team member follow-up.

Based on my last interaction with Petplan I would recommend them to my family and friends. Thank you Taylor! I had some concerns in regards to my monthly payment and the method that it was paid. It wasn't going to work the way that it was set up now however, the payment comes out in two days. I quickly called Petplan to see what I could do and Taylor the Happiness Manager really lived up to her title. Not only was she able to assist me with my most important request (changing the payment method), she also assisted me in getting my access online, all while adding a personal touch. When it comes to the service that I receive over the phone I have an expectation that not only will... Read More

I have been dealing with a claim for over six weeks now. I followed the instructions listed on the website for filing a claim and had my veterinary clinic fax the information requested via Petplan's website. A few weeks after filing, I went online to check the status of my claim to find a vague message stating that they needed more info, but the website didn't articulate what they needed, nor had I received an email requesting additional information so I called and learned that they needed two years worth of vet records. Fine, but why couldn't they reach out and ask for that? So I had those faxed and received an email stating that now they needed all of my dog's vet records. Fine, I had... Read More

Petplan came through for us in a difficult time. We had heard from friends and family how expensive pet bills can be, so when our pup Aggie joined our family, we made sure to sign up for pet insurance. Although she was only 7 weeks old, we wanted to go with a trusted provider, with a strong underwriter, that offered comprehensive coverage for breed specific conditions if need be. For just over $30 dollars a month, we had peace of mind that if anything ever happened to her we wouldn't have to make a tough financial decision, we could just get her the best medical care possible. Like all insurance, we hoped we would never have to use it, at least not until many years later. Out of... Read More

Initially they paid out on a claim or two but I have had this company deny every claim in the last few years, they always find a way out to not have to pay. I can say it's a total scam, in that I am better off saving the premium in my savings account and paying myself, at least I know I will have the money. Sad to say this insurance is not worth it at all. I have cancelled and wished I did it sooner.

I’ve been working in the veterinary field for over 4 years now and my insurance recommendation will always be Petplan. I’ve had my cat, Evey, all her 9 years of life, and in her older age she’s gotten quite good at finding new and creative ways to make me worry - pancreatitis, food allergies, a ureter stone, hyperthyroidism, etc. Through it all Petplan has been absolutely wonderful to work with and it has given me a peace of mind that has no price tag. I will never forget the incredible financial burden of repairing Evey’s broken leg several years ago before I invested in pet insurance, but it’s a decision I would make again in a heart beat. I’m incredibly grateful for Taylor B. and the... Read More

Do not use this company. Can't figure out how to process my auto payment for 3rd month in a row. Call customer service and they blame it on their processing company, that works for 1 month but 3 is a joke. I'm now searching for a new provider so I don't have to deal with their terrible customer service. Adopted a 6 month old dog and they kept insisting I get medical records, which I can't get for an adopted dog. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE with this company.

I just received my Yorkipoo’s policy renewal letter. The premium went up 25%!! She is now 6 yrs old (not old for a small dog by any means). I know they rate on “age” but this is outrageous. C/S Rep couldn’t even give me a reasonable explanation except something about the number of claims in my state must have been very high because the other rate factors of breed and age she said would be about $10-$15 per class so I’m at a total loss! Never filed a claim on either pet insured either.

I am serious when I say you would be better off putting your monthly premium into a savings account instead of paying it to Petplan. The editor above obviously doesn't have Petplan insurance. Even though their customer service people are attentive and nice, that hardly matters when they don't give you correct information to the determent of your pocket book. Case in point: I have 2 mini dachshunds, now elderly and 1 cat (given to me by my Aunt when she passed away). Before signing up I asked the customer service rep if they would insure and reimburse for my Aunt's cat as I could not find any past vet paperwork on her and she was 12 years old. They said YES. No problem. I started... Read More
