Overall Rating: 4.4 / 5 (Excellent)

Fetch ranks highly with us chiefly because of the comprehensiveness of coverage, including coverage for the entire sick visit including exam fees, and flexibility in customizing deductibles, reimbursement rates, and maximum annual payouts. In light of this, the customer has a lot of leeway to mix and match to get the right premiums for their individual pet and financial situation.

Fetch Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Fetch offers the most extensive coverage in comparison to the other companies we rate. They handle all new accidents and illnesses without restrictions for hereditary or congenital conditions, as well as medications, advanced testing, hospital stays, rehabilitative care, and holistic therapies.

Fetch provides coverage for behavioral treatments on all policies, including anxiety disorders such as travel and separation anxiety, noise phobia, and house soiling. Many other providers require a rider or don’t cover behavioral treatments at all.

Also, all non-routine veterinary exam fees are covered in all plans, including at emergency & specialist vets. While some providers don’t cover the cost of the exam, Fetch does, saving pet parents between $50-$250 per visit on average (with other providers, that’s the equivalent of an additional deductible you must meet on every veterinary visit).

Fetch has the most comprehensive coverage of dental injury and treatment of periodontal disease. Fetch’s comprehensive dental coverage protects against multiple accidents and injuries including broken teeth, periodontal disease, extractions and advanced dental treatments such as root canal therapy for every tooth in the mouth, not just the canines like some other providers.

Finally, Fetch will cover curable pre-existing conditions after the 365 day exclusionary period after your policy becomes active. The company also covers most bilateral conditions when one side is considered to be pre-existing, which is something many other providers won't do.

Benefit Limits

Benefit Limits - 5 / 5

Fetch's maximum annual payouts can range from $5,000 to unlimited.

This can be advantageous if you research the types and costs of conditions your particular breed is likely to face, and combine it with the cost of treatment considering your area.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Like all the leading pet insurance policies today, Fetch will pay a predetermined percentage of your actual veterinarian bill after you have met your deductible.

The reimbursement rates you can choose from are 70%, 80%, and 90%.

Maximum Percent Reimbursement

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Cat owners can select a deductible of $250, $300, or $400, while dog owners can select a deductible of $300, $500, or $700.

If you choose a higher end deductible, it is going to translate into lower monthly premiums. Fetch operates on an annual deductible, which is ideal as you will only have to meet the one deductible regardless of incidences.

Fetch also prides itself on offering more coverage than any other provider. They offer premium pet insurance and that means they are not the cheapest. Pricing is based on your pets age, breed and location.

Claims & Service

Extras - 4.5 / 5

Fetch is one of the only pet insurance companies to specifically state a claims payout timeframe in its terms and conditions, 30 days. However, most are reimbursed in 5-7 business days after submission of a completed claim, especially when submitted via the Fetch App or online.

To file a claim, you need two documents:
● A finalized invoice from your vet. Your invoice should clearly show what your pet was treated for, how much you were charged and it has to be paid in full.
● Detailed medical records from your pet’s most recent checkup. Medical records show us your pet’s medical history and let us see what we can cover, which allows us to process your claim quickly.

One thing to note: claims have to be filed within 90 days of treatment. If a claim is submitted more than 90 days after the date on the invoice, it won’t be covered.

Fetch also gives you the flexibility of submitting this information through its free app for Android and iPhone. You can also use their online portal on your phone or computer. This lets you file claims instantly and without messy paperwork 24/7.

Fetch also features the "Telehealth" service. This facility provides coverage for telephone consultations for an immediate lifesaving emergency.

After having a very allergic rescue cocker whose medical bills reached 6K the first year, I made the decision to make certain that when I had another cocker, I would have pet insurance. I asked several pet owners which company they used, and every one of them used Pet Plan. I got a new puppy and got Pet Plan insurance. Best decision I ever made. She is more allergic than my last cocker, and as a result has had some medical issues that were very expensive. My claims have been handled expertly, promptly, and few have been declined. The $48 dollars a month is the best money I spend. I now can give Aggie May the care she deserves, and the 10K cap per year, per condition is more than... Read More

I’m thankful for Petplan insurance. I have 3 rescues and Petplan has helped me give my furbabies the quality care they deserve. Insurance is something you pay for and pray you never use. You have to pay for car insurance and chances are you’re never going to file a claim. Cable TV/Internet and or cell phone bills cost more than pet insurance. Petplan also pays for medications and tests. My Daisy is diabetic and Peggy Sue has Cushings and renal failure costing hundreds of dollars monthly for life. You won’t tuck away enough money to cover the unexpected. Filing a claim could not be easier with the Petplan App., answer a few questions, date, amount, pet’s ailment, take a photo of... Read More

I've had PetPlan for 2 years now and it is it time for the renewal. Policy premiums increased almost $400 while they decreased the reimbursement percentage. They no longer offer 100% reimbursement. Note, I have not filed any claims with them so not sure why the steep increase. My dog is 9 years old and in very good health. It's probably best to just save the premiums paid and use that for vet costs.

Hi Martha, I understand why you would be frustrated with your premium increase. I would like to have a Petplan team member follow-up with you to explain in detail why your specific policy premiums increased. During this call we would also review options to reduce the cost for your policy going forward. In some cases we have been able to make changes that will reduce cost. Since updating their policies in 2017, we have been extremely disappointed! The amount of money we pay and have paid over the 8 years of our dogs life vs what we get reimbursed is ridiculous. It's absolute robbery. Do your homework. Check other plans. As your dog gets older and is in more need of veterinary care, you pay more and get less back!! What kind of care is that??!!! I feel like the whole pet insurance industry is a complete joke. I also JUST learned of the veterinary professionals discount by reading this page. My husband IS a veterinary professional. I have mentioned this multiple times in speaking with PetPlan reps and not once has anyone told me there was a discount. Shame on... Read More

Having to pay up front, and getting reimbursement by Pet Plan kinda defeats the purpose of having insurance!!! A lot of people can't afford up front costs, especially if it's a sudden occurrence!! If we had the money to cover Vet bills, we wouldn't need the insurance!!

Hi Marg, I'm sorry you are not happy with the reimbursement option that is standard for all of our policy holders. We do however work with vet clinics to pay direct as long as the clinic is willing to work with us. If you would like more information about this option please email us at socialmedia@gopetplan.com and I will connect you with a Petplan team member who can help you.

Recently they have been nit picking everything I submit. And they refuse to cover issues that were only preexisting to being insured with them. I had heard bad things about them when I switched but had to learn my own lesson I guess.

Petplan Pet Insurance will gladly take your money, but if you have a claim it is highly unlikely to pay, claiming it is a pre-existing condition. Had an insignificant mole on my dog 5 years ago. Decided to have a needle biopsy on it due to changes in the size of the mole, then Vet said we should remove it since it had some spindle cells in the biopsy. Thankfully it was benign. But Petplan did not allow the claim saying it was a pre-existing condition, even though the Vet sent a letter letting them know that when it was examined 5 years ago there was no reason to believe it was a problem and there were no issues. Do not buy their insurance, you are better paying it out of pocket then the... Read More

I was satisfied until contract renewal in 2017. Company changed underwriters. Awful premiums/deductibles for price; key clauses in policy changed. I would change if I could, but I have older pet with pre-existing conditions.
