Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

My American Bulldog has had more than her fair share of health issues, from joint issues to heart troubles to allergies. Once, she reacted to a medication and needed to spend a few days at a pet hospital, which resulted in a several-thousand-dollar bill. Luckily, she's insured through Healthy Paws. There is no way we would have been able to take care of all of her health needs for these past 7 years without it. Submitting invoices is easy, and we've never had any hassles with them not covering stuff. They've truly been a godsend and I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Four years ago, we decided that we wanted to add a fur baby to our family. His name is Seamus. Being first time pet owners, we knew the first and most important thing was to get good pet insurance. Having done some research, we found Healthy Paws. They offer broad coverage and a reasonable monthly fee that we can afford. Just recently Seamus cracked two of his teeth chewing on a bully bone and had to have them removed! An unexpected cost like that can be stressful. This is, hands down, the best decision I have ever made. After nursing a chronically sick dog for three years and having no insurance, we researched health insurance for our next pet. And it has been SO worth it. Our dog, Cuper, has a chronic auto immune disease that required thousands of dollars in tests to diagnose and now costs hundreds a month to treat. He is happy and healthy and feels awesome now and it's 100% because of Healthy Paws. We would never be able to afford this level of care without the insurance. Did our rates gradually go up? We joined Healthy Paws when we got Chloe, 6 years ago. This was the first time we had insurance for our pet and we weren't sure. For 6 years we have paid into Healthy Paws and weren't using the insurance. Once when she was just a pup, we did use the insurance when there was a problem with her eyes. Now, with her continued ear infections, we are once again calling on Healthy Paws to help with the cost. The company is coming through on all that they had promised and allowing us to get answers by seeing specialists. Thank you Healthy Paws. You are the best!

My dog has had several health issues and the response of Healthy Paws could not have been better. Claims are very easy to file and the response time has been unequaled. I may be paying a little more for pet insurance but I have gotten more than my money’s worth. I have recommended this company to several people as well as the veterinarians my dog sees.

I purchased pet insurance within a week or so of adopting our husky. After 11 years with a German Shepherd with megaesophagus, I couldn't take any chances. After a year with no issues, our husky managed to injure his spine while out on a walk and lost rear mobility. He was rushed to the vet and kept overnight on IV medication. He improved enough to be sent home with a full body harness and lots of meds. The bill was much higher than expected due to it being a very well equipped facility. Healthy Paws processed my claim in only a few days with no difficulty. I am happy to pay for it, and I'll never have another dog without it being covered by Healthy Paws.

We've had Healthy PAWS for just two years now. Our youngest pup Bubba fell into some hard times about 6 months ago. He blew out his knee and most recently developed a tumor on his toe. Its been a rough go at it for him. HealthyPaws has been a God send. I have to tell you and it's not over. He was getting better and then stepped in a hole and completely disabled him. HealthyPaws has paid for everything. They have been amazing. The claims are easy to submit and pay quickly, they deposit our reimbursement right into our checking account. This is the best Pet insurance company. They were there when we needed them. They did exactly what they said they would do if our pet was sick or injured when we signed up. They were fast and kind and caring and they followed up to ensure our dog was better. I wish I had insurance this wonderful for myself. Best experience ever.
