Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

Signing up with Healthy Paws was the best decision we could have made for our pup who unfortunately has had a lot of health issues including a recent, unexpected surgery. In each case, Healthy Paws has covered these expenses and lived up to their promise. It’s so easy to use their app to submit claims. They process the claims quickly and will submit your reimbursement directly to your bank account if you choose. I can honestly say that without Healthy Paws we couldn’t have afforded to give our dog the care he needs. We owe so much gratitude to Healthy Paws! It’s a decision you won’t regret.

I have had Healthypaws on my dogs since I adopted them as puppies. Having this coverage is something you hope you NEVER have to use but when you need it, having it can mean that you can remove financial concerns as a factor in if your loved one lives or dies. One of my pups became very ill and if it wasn't for Healthypaws I am not sure if I would have been able to remove the financial burden from decisions about care. I am forever grateful to Healthypaws for that.

This is what insurance should be. I can't say enough how grateful I am that my best friend recommended healthypaws to me and I signed my dog up. My dog is my child and a very important part of my family. She needed two surgeries in one year and healthypaws alleviated financial stress without adding any stress. My experience was as good as I could’ve hoped for under the conditions. I lost my fabulous two-year-old border collie pup to a freak internal tear. I would have paid anything to have her recover, but to face her loss followed by the $6000 vet bill would have been intolerable. Healthy Paws was fast, efficient and the gal who handled my claim was gentle, supportive and sympathetic. The check arrived amazingly fast. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. I can only give them my best recommendation.

We love Healthy Paws! Unfortunately, our dog needed surgery 3 times and he's only 4 y/o, but every claim was reimbursed in a timely fashion. The premium, deductible, and reimbursement rate is very reasonable and affordable.

When I had to leave my pup Piglet at the vet hospital for over three days while they ran tests to try and figure out why she wasn't eating and regurgitating putrid brown liquid, it was one of the most stressful situations I have been in. The only thing worse than the bill I was racking up was the fact that they didnt know what was wrong with her. I work for a non-profit and live to paycheck to paycheck. I can't even imagine what I would have done had I not had Healthy Paws. I could relax knowing that I wouldn't have to go into debt when this was all over. I enrolled my puppy around 6 months of age, and it was hands down the BEST decision I had ever made. At just shy of the age of two, what we thought was an ACL/CCL tear was soon discovered to be severe hip dysplasia, in both hips, but needing just about immediate attention on the right hip. My almost two year old pup required a total hip replacement . Luckily enough, Healthy Paws covered hip dysplasia, and covered 80% of what would have been an almost $8,000 bill for me. I have been very happy with Healthy Paws Pet Insurance for my 2 youngest dogs. My only regret is that I did not take it out until one was a year old and already had some pre-existing conditions. I used this source when researching a variety of pet insurance companies. I have found the information to be accurate and reliable. Healthy Paws has very good customer service and it's very easy to file a claim. I am very happy with Happy Paws!

I don't know where I would be if I hadn't signed up for Healthy Paws insurance. At 5, Tucker, my French Bulldog was diagnosed with Cushing's Disease -- a manageable, but incredibly costly (and nerve wracking disease). The team at Healthy Paws - ESPECIALLY Brian Peterson (this dude goes above and beyond the call of his role - I've never seen anything quite like it) was there for me every step of the way. Healthy Paws is super! I own a Lagotto Ramagnolo who unfortunately enjoys socks. We have a "no sock policy in our house now given he has had surgery for sock removal! Healthy Paws claim process is extremely efficient and their response time is excellent. They are also very personable to work with. I studied the various pet insurance companies before committing and I am super glad I chose Healthy Paws!
