Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

After a lot of pet insurance research I chose Healthy Paws and I’m so glad I did. They are so friendly , caring and the customer service is wonderful! After submitting all claim information , all eligible claim amounts ( must meet annual deductible depending which plan you have) are processed so fast normally within a couple of days. Highly recommend!!

The best company ever! I love Healthy Paws, they have taken such good care of me and my dog, Darwin. They are always helpful, process claims fast and generally pay between 80% and 100% depending on the services, which I think is amazing! And beyond that their customer service and follow-up is awesome. Thanks Healthy Paws team!

Healthy Paws was recommended by my daughter. I have never had pet insurance before and never thought I would need it. Like everything else in life medical bills for our pets have gone up. My little girl Minnie is a two year old Yorkie. On Sunday she woke up screaming at Midnight. We rushed to the Animal Hospital. She had three large bladder stones. Within two hours we were up to a $3,000 bill and climbing. She went into emergency surgery where they discovered her bladder had ruptured. We cannot say enough that we were able to obtain care for our baby and not be stressed as the bill kept climbing with each day of hospitalization. Healthy Paws had our reimbursement on the way... We have had our little dog covered by Healthy Paws since October of 2015 and thankfully had never had to use it until February of this year. I was at home when I noticed my little girl stumbling toward me. I was instantly panic stricken as I knew something dreadful was wrong with her. I couldn't tell if she was even breathing and she was terrified! I gathered her up and rushed her to an emergency veterinary hospital. She would face a hospital stay, an MRI, an ultrasound, a spinal tap, numerous blood tests and multiple medications and because she was covered with Healthy Paws Pet Insurance we didn't have to worry about the costs we would be facing. Filing the claim was easy and done on line. I was notified within one day the claim was being reviewed. A few days later I was notified the claim was completed and a breakdown of what was paid was emailed to me. The reimbursement was received within ten days of submitting the claim.

I did a lot of research before choosing the right pet insurance for my pup and eventually decided on Healthy Paws because of the great reviews. I'm so glad I did! The app makes everything extremely simple, all I have to do is take a picture of the invoice and submit a claim. The turnaround is always extremely quick and I have never had any issues with regards to coverage. I cannot recommend Healthy Paws enough. I have friends who are with different providers and have been having a nightmare getting records verified each time etc. Getting insurance for your pet is a must and Healthy Paws is the best choice.

I cannot say enough good things about Healthy Paws Pet Insurance. They have been a life saver time and time again when it comes to my two pups care. Customer Service is always so kind and helpful and their claims handling and turn around is top notch. I'm so glad I made the right choice the first time in choosing Healthy Paws and other pets owners will be too. Issues arise with all of our pets at some point (just like children) and it's a relief to know that you have help.

I've now had Healthy Paws for about 4 years and I was not a believer in pet insurance but thankfully I changed my mind. One of my dogs has had three knee surgeries in the past three years and I'm so grateful for how easy Healthy Paws makes the claim process. Their app makes it about a minute long process and then it's almost always processed within a week. Not only have they covered the surgeries but also the physical therapy to get her back to 100%. I'm so happy to have them because it takes a lot of the money factor out of making the hard decision on whether or not surgery is right for your pup. I'll be a Healthy Paws customer for life!

We purchased Healthy Paws pet insurance for our two cats when they were kittens. Our male cat has had two bouts of urinary tract blockage issues that have required surgery. In both instances Healthy Paws paid our claims exactly as our policy stated, with our reimbursement paid right away. We are extremely happy with the service we have been provided and have recommended Healthy Paws to all of our friends and family.
