Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

Been using Healthy Paws for many years now and have had 5 dogs on the insurance so far! Best decision I ever made because I've had emergencies over and over again and it's great not to have to decide between your pet and your financial stability. I was very impressed with the genuine care and concern HealthyPaws showed after I submitted my first claim. They even followed up weeks later to see how my pup was doing. My claim was processed timely and funds were deposited directly into my account. No need to wait for a check!

If you have a dog or cat, I highly recommend Healthy Paws Pet Insurance. I have used Healthy Paws for the past three years and have never had any trouble with them. Recently, my three-year-old dog was diagnosed with cataracts and detached retinas in both her eyes. She needed an emergency surgery to fix both before they got worse. The medical expenses for these surgeries was astronomical, but Healthy Paws ended up covering 90% of the cost. It made a world of difference, and allowed me to focus on getting the best quality of care for my dog rather than worry about the bill. Thank you Healthy Paws!

Healthy Paws always responds quickly. It is always easy to upload information. Claims are settled fast and fairly. Our dog is 4 years old and has unfortunately had some health issues. This is our first dog, and therefore our first experiences with pet-insurance. We are so glad we chose Healthy Paws. They not only respond quickly, but check on our dog after a claim is filed and settled, just to see how she is doing. A bright spot in challenging times.

I have a younger cat (3 y/o) who after being covered for 2 years developed epilepsy symptoms. Going through a litany of tests, I found the website to be clear, no disallowances. The website clearly states what they do/don't cover, the deductible, etc. This helped me make decisions about my cat's medical treatment and felt like I could make the best decisions with what I can afford. I quite appreciate this! The only improvement (but not worth a deduction) - I would love to be able to engage in pre-approval processes! Not warranting a deduction because when I called customer service, they were so kind, genuine and fantastic.

Healthy Paws is hands down the best pet insurance company I've dealt with. When my dog Lea had an unexpected illness that became more complicated than we initially thought, they were wonderful in guiding me through what was needed to get her claims filed and paid quickly. Excellent customer service and they actually follow up with pet parents to see how your furry kid is doing. I highly recommend Healthy Paws anyone for looking high quality insurance coverage at reasonable prices and excellent customer service.

Thank you Healthy Paws for your outstanding coverage. My dog Snickers was struck by a car and needed several surgeries. Healthy Paws did exactly what they say they would. Best investment I have ever made. This insurance allowed us the piece of mind to not worry about the cost of her emergency hospitalization and give Dixie the best care possible. Bodhi, our 8 year old toy poodle, has been insured with healthy paws since he was 6 months old. A year ago we got the devastating news that Bodhi had developed Diabetes, and would most likely need cataract surgery. In the year since his diagnosis, he has had a number of veterinary tests, as well as cataract surgery in both eyes. Healthy Paws has been fantastic in helping to pay for these procedures - and was very communicative throughout. A common complaint is the fact that premiums increase every year (ours have doubled in the 8 years since we took the insurance out) - but to us it's completely worth it since they have been so good at paying for Bodhi's health .
