Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

I have had Healthy Paws insurance for both of my mastiff's since they were babies. My 3 yr old recently had to have TPLO surgery. 90% of my bill was paid by Healthy Paws. They are truly the best pet insurance with the best reimbursement plans.

It is so easy to submit a claim, I could do it on my phone in just a couple clicks. The Healthy Paws team was so great and timely during my dog's surgery and post op appointments. They even followed up after appointments to see how she was recovering. It really feels like they care.

Our golden retriever is 8 years old and she has had Healthy Paws Insurance since she was a puppy. She has had everything happen from eating miracle-gro to having 2 mast cell tumors removed which turned out to be cancer. The cancer tumors occurred this year which required 3 surgeries by an oncologist surgeon. After submitting claims, which by the way takes about a minute to do, we were promptly reimbused in just a few days. Hopefully we wont need them again but it's reassuring to know that Abby is covered for her lifetime.

I am a new pet parent to Healthy Paws for two 9 month old Golden Retrievers. While you really don't want to have a situation that requires use of the coverage I recently had to submit a claim and can say that the reimbursement process was simple and quick with the reimbursement breakdown easy to understand and as expected. They even reached after everything was processed to check in on my pup! It was a great first impression!

Our 6 month old puppy, Ollie, has had a crazy life so far. When we first adopted him, Ollie was diagnosed with Parvovirus. A family member helped us with the costs of care to help him survive, thankfully, because it cost almost $4k. Well worth it, but a huge expense nonetheless. Then, at 4.5 months old, Ollie fractured his tibia while playing. After the bout with Parvovirus, we chose to get Ollie insured with Healthy Paws after they were recommended by my 2 veterinarians. Needless to say, when Ollie broke his leg, we were so sad and worried but also glad that we had chosen to insure him when we did. Healthy Paws pet insurance is a very smart investment. You never know what will befall your pet, even a healthy one. We are very glad we insured this ours. Their claim process is simple and they are very fast with the check, even these days with the mail as slow as it is. Healthy Paw is so wonderful! My 2 year old husky/shepard got bit by a rattlesnake while at my mother in law's ranch, and then a few months later needed emergency surgery for an unrelated reason. In both instances Healthy Paws was so helpful. Their process to upload invoices for claims is so easy and if they need further documents it is such a smooth process for the vets to submit. I received both reimbursement checks in a very timely fashion, and they even checked in about Clover's surgery. I am very happy with Healthy Paw and am glad to have them for my pups.

Healthy paws has been a miracle for me, without them my Roxy would have had to be put down 3 years ago. She had a leaking cancerous tumor on her heart that was suffocating her. She had heart surgery and is on chemo and still going like crazy. Healthy paws has far exceeded my expectations. I have never had to call and question anything. They take every invoice and process it quickly and deposit my 80% into my account, their app is super easy to use!!! I could go on forever about how awesome they are!!!
