Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

I want to give a HUGE POSITIVE review of HealthyPaws. I have owned multiple pets in my lifetime and this is the first time I have purchased Pet Insurance. I honestly did not think I would need it because I’ve never had issues with my other pets. However, our GoldenDoodle is just over a year old and has come done with some disease that is causing persistent coughing. She has seen the vet numerous times and been through countless testing. She even went to an internal medicine specialist. All covered. What is important though is that with the enormous cost of just one vet visit, this insurance almost pays for itself. Healthy Paws is the BEST!!! I have had other pet insurance plans in the past for other animals, and none have been more honest and efficient as Healthy Paws. They are caring and once a claim is processed it takes only a few days to receive the money for your pets care. This is so important to most of us as veterinary care is so expensive and many of us can not manage when something bad happens. All of their customer service people were so very helpful. Healthy Paws has been a life saver for us. Our cat suddenly started vomiting blood, so we made an emergency appointment. It was a very scary, heartbreaking, and emotional experience. The vet bill ended up being very hefty, which was stressful as well. Healthy Paws processed our claims in less than two days, and we had a reimbursement check in the mail in another couple of days – what a relief. Healthy Paws pet insurance is a wonderful company. My five year old poodle has had a few medical issues come up and Healthy Paws has made filling claims a breeze. Their web site is extremely easy to navigate. One of the things I like the most is their quick turn around time in issuing me my reimbursements. I often receive a reimbursement before I even receive the credit card statement in which I placed the vet bill. Highly recommend this company.

I've had a healthypaws policy for my Border Collie mix since I adopted him five years ago and have had a really positive experience. It's super easy to submit claims, the policy is straightforward with no surprises, and the communication from the company is clear, prompt and caring. One surgery was all it took to make five years of monthly payments worth it! The only reason I can't give five full stars is that it does take a bit of time to get reimbursed after submitting a claim. Overall, I would definitely recommend healthypaws.

I changed my card number online as required, confimred the process via phone with HP customer rep. My plan was canceled but the new card never charged, no denial through my bank. Confirmed with HP it was the correct number, correct exp. date, put in on time. I had never even used the insurance. I understand it was probably a computor issue but since I hadn’t done anything wrong and followed they’re instructions, which they did confirm they weren’t sure what happened, I should have been reinstated but they refused. They said I could reenroll, wait through another waiting period but considering the customer service I recieved on the first two calls I determined they weren’t to be trusted... Read More

We understand that there are times a policyholder’s credit card used on the policy could be compromised by fraud or that there may be a change in bank accounts, expiration date, etc. We understand that you updated your card information, but that transaction was also declined. Unfortunately, insurance industry regulations do not allow for the reinstatement of a canceled policy once outside of the notification period. To say that I am thankful to Healthy Paws is an understatement. They literally saved my life and my cat's life. At 6 years old, my little Pitchoun unexpectedly fell ill and had to have a major surgery. He stayed several days at the veterinarian hospital and bills started to pile up. Healthy Paws Insurance has been so easy to deal with in these times of stress. I don't know how I could have gone through this terrible ordeal without them. Not only did they reimburse each bill in a timely fashion, but they went the extra mile, even checking on my cat weeks after the surgery to make sure he was doing fine.
