Overall Rating: 4.2 / 5 (Excellent)

Pets Best provides pet owners with a lot of latitude in selecting the right coverage for their pet and the best plan for their budgets. Its plans are quite comprehensive and comparatively low-cost.

The company offers two benefit limit choices: $5000 or unlimited. We prefer plans that offer the option of unlimited coverage, particularly when adding it doesn't drive costs sky-high. That's the case with Pets Best.

Pets Best has no age restriction; they will cover dogs and cats regardless of how old they are. The company does not exclude cruciate ligament issues so long as they occur after a 6-month waiting period. That's a significant competitive advantage for owners of dogs susceptible to that type of illness. In addition, plans include coverage for accidental dental and some dental illnesses.

Combined with the company's relatively low premiums, that make Pets Best a solid choice for pet parents seeking comprehensive, affordable protection.

Pets Best Coverage

Coverage - 4.3 / 5

Pets Best offers three levels of coverage. The Essentials plan reimburses you for the wide range of veterinary services offered by most pet insurance plans, but excludes exam fees for accidents and illnesses and rehabilitative, acupuncture, and chiropractic care. The company's Plus plan adds exam fees to the list of covered services and its Elite plan includes rehabilitative, acupuncture, and chiropractic care.

Pets Best also offers two tiers of wellness plans that can be added to any policy for an additional fee.

Benefit Limits

Benefit Limits - 4 / 5

Pets Best offers two benefit cap options: $5,000 or unlimited. We like to see plans that offer, even at a minimum, significant coverage. One serious accident or illness could result in veterinary bills way in excess of the low benefit limits some other companies offer. $5000 seems a reasonable and cautious amount of insurance to carry if you want to be fully prepared to give your pet all the veterinary care he or she needs.

$5,000 or Unlimited

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Pets Best allows you to choose a reimbursement level of 70%, 80%, or 90%. Combined with the opportunity to customize a deductible, that flexibility can make pet insurance more affordable for a wider range of customers.

Maximum Percent Reimbursement

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Pet's Best allows you the flexibility to set your deductible in increments between $50 and $1,000. That's a broader range of options than many plans provide.

Pricing: How much does Pets Best cost?

Cost - 4 / 5

Pets Best pricing is quite flexible. The company allows you to choose deductibles ranging from $50 to $1000 and reimbursement levels of 70%, 80%, and 90%. There are however, only two choices of benefit limits: an annual cap of $5000 or unlimited benefits.

The company's two higher-priced plans include reimbursement for exam fees resulting from accidents or illnesses, a feature that's not often found in other plans and can wind up saving customers quite a bit in out-of-pocket costs. Overall, Pets Best provide excellent coverage for the money.

Started with this insurance in November 2022. My Great Dane had a TPLO surgery September 2022 before starting with this insurance . My Great Dane tore her meniscus in February of 2023. When I started submitting my claims I all the sudden got a $20 * increase in my monthly bill. I never got reimbursed for any medications or for a whole different surgery repair of the meniscus. I was told that it didn’t matter what ligament tore and on any legged because she had TPLO surgery. Now I am stuck with $4000 dollar bill. This place is a scam!

Not worth your go with FIGO unless you are ready to fight for your claim over 100 days after you get bill is due. They have lost medical records and asked me to re send them twice. They say anything is pre existing. Can someone please explain how I have x-rays for my dog in 2022 when I was a policy owner and there was nothing wrong I acl tear. Then in 2023 she has x-rays showing an acl tear and a week of insane limping which she has never done before. We got surgery to fix it but was told it was a pre existing condition. Been a policy owner since 2021 but the limp only happened in 2023 when her acl was torn after verify nothing was wrong in 2022 pre existing? Run from this company... Read More

Pets Best has made a clearly unfair decision to my claim. First, it took more than 6 weeks for Pets Best to make a decision. Second, Pets Best based on incomplete information, and partial evidence to decline a exams with reason of "pre-existing conditions". "Pre-existing" seems to be a super token for them to decline customers' claims if they don't want to cover. My dog has never been diagnosed with Urination Inconsistency by any doctor. It was only based on my own words mentioning that I noticed some urine dripping about a year ago, but it went away. There is no medical records to prove that my dog has urination incontinence. It's like if your dog had diarrhea a year ago, they would... Read More

Horrible customer service! Keep getting run around. Filed a claim, denied the claim. Appealed the claim. Claim was supposed to be paid on 10/13. Called on 10/26 to verify check date. I was told that it was indeed issued on 10/13. On 10/31 called back and had check cancelled. I was told that an ACH would take 3-5 days. Received the check on 11/1. The check was dated 10/27 no 10/13. I received a phone call on 11/13 to verify my address. (I don't know why they had to verify my address when it is an ACH). Called again on 11/23 to check on ACH. Then I was told that it takes up to 21 days to process. Called today 12/5, now I am being told that it is 21 BUSINESS days which also excludes the... Read More

Kept losing claims, then when found, told duplicate claims, therefore denied. Had to request appeal, took 90 days and finally paid a portion. NEVER EVER GET THIS INSURANCE - horrible reviews - should have read the reviews before I took out the insurance on my dog, who is now deceased - have a new puppy and have a great insurance - 1 day turn around for approval of claim and check sent out.

We rescued a bullmastiff in March, 2018. Pets Best accepted our vet's estimate of his age and set premiums accordingly. We have maintaining the insurance ever since. In May of this year our boy got really sick. Long story short a world class emergency vet facility took out his spleen and a 10 pound (!) tumor (benign). The cost was almost $8,000. We had already pay our $500 deductible so Pets Best paid us almost $6,400 (80 per cent), no muss, no fuss. They performed as advertised and we are very satisfied.

I signed up for a accident/illness plan in January of ‘22, my dog was injured in Feb, had X-rays done in April. All those visits were covered. The injury (cruciate tear) ended up needing surgery, insurance covered the pre-op AND the surgeon’s deposit. Surgery was scheduled in July, after their 6 month waiting period. They have refused to cover the surgery, citing it as a pre-existing condition. The explanation of benefits says after each paid item, if they decide they don’t want to cover related items later, they don’t have to. WHAT?! You’lol pay for little things like X-rays and bloodwork and a deposit for the surgeon, but won’t cover the actual surgery? And then if my dog is in the 50%... Read More

I take my cat to the vet every year for a checkup. Last year the vet said everything looked great. This year, the vet said she had some tarter on her teeth and they should be cleaned. Ok no problem. I left her at vets office for the cleaning. Vet calls and said that when cleaning they found 2 teeth that were in very bad condition and needed to be pulled. Ok no problem. Submitted the vet bill and a claim to Pets Best for partial reimbursement (minus deductibles). A few weeks later a received an e-mail that stated NONE of the vet bill ($757)was covered. I was told by a representative that my cat needed to have her teeth cleaned within the past 13 months in order to have the tooth... Read More

Love this coverage for our French Bulldog. Claims are handled in a reasonable amount of time. If there is a delay they will contact you. Love the wellness plan and the fact you have so many choices to fit your budget.
