Overall Rating: 4.9 / 5 (Excellent)

Pets Best provides pet owners with a lot of latitude in selecting the right coverage for their pet and the best plan for their budgets. Its plans are quite comprehensive and comparatively low-cost.

The company offers two benefit limit choices: $5000 or unlimited. We prefer plans that offer the option of unlimited coverage, particularly when adding it doesn't drive costs sky-high. That's the case with Pets Best.

Pets Best has no age restriction; they will cover dogs and cats regardless of how old they are. The company does not exclude cruciate ligament issues so long as they occur after a 6-month waiting period. That's a significant competitive advantage for owners of dogs susceptible to that type of illness. In addition, plans include coverage for accidental dental and some dental illnesses.

Combined with the company's relatively low premiums, that make Pets Best a solid choice for pet parents seeking comprehensive, affordable protection.

Pets Best Coverage

Coverage - 5 / 5

Pets Best offers three levels of coverage. The Essentials plan reimburses you for the wide range of veterinary services offered by most pet insurance plans, but excludes exam fees for accidents and illnesses and rehabilitative, acupuncture, and chiropractic care. The company's Plus plan adds exam fees to the list of covered services and its Elite plan includes rehabilitative, acupuncture, and chiropractic care.

Pets Best also offers two tiers of wellness plans that can be added to any policy for an additional fee.

Benefit Limits

Benefit Limits - 5 / 5

Pets Best offers two benefit cap options: $5,000 or unlimited. We like to see plans that offer, even at a minimum, significant coverage. One serious accident or illness could result in veterinary bills way in excess of the low benefit limits some other companies offer. $5000 seems a reasonable and cautious amount of insurance to carry if you want to be fully prepared to give your pet all the veterinary care he or she needs.

Reimbursement & Deductibles

Reimbursement - 5 / 5

Pets Best allows you to choose a reimbursement level of 70%, 80%, or 90%. Combined with the opportunity to customize a deductible, that flexibility can make pet insurance more affordable for a wider range of customers.

Maximum Percent Reimbursement

Deductibles - 5 / 5

Pet's Best allows you the flexibility to set your deductible in increments between $50 and $1,000. That's a broader range of options than many plans provide.

Pricing: How much does Pets Best cost?

Cost - 5 / 5

Pets Best pricing is quite flexible. The company allows you to choose deductibles ranging from $50 to $1000 and reimbursement levels of 70%, 80%, and 90%. There are however, only two choices of benefit limits: an annual cap of $5000 or unlimited benefits.

The company's two higher-priced plans include reimbursement for exam fees resulting from accidents or illnesses, a feature that's not often found in other plans and can wind up saving customers quite a bit in out-of-pocket costs. Overall, Pets Best provide excellent coverage for the money.

Claim received please contact us about your claim pre-existing condition denied. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. This is a scam with a nice website.

Hi Jack, in order to accurately process claims, we request medical records directly from your vet. The records made available indicate the claimed condition developed weeks prior to the inception or effective date of the policy, deeming this condition pre-existing and not covered by any insurance company. You are welcome to file an appeal if you disagree with the findings based on your veterinarian's notes. We have emailed you an appeal form. Please let us know if you have other questions.

Stay away from this insurance company. It's great at first but they will give you the run-around at any attempt to file a general claim. They make it near impossible to get reimbursed and send you through hoops so that you will likely just give up. At the end they will argue "pre-existing condition" and violate their own policy to avoid paying claims. Highly disappointed with this company considering the amount of money I was paying.

It makes me very unhappy to see the negative comments about Pets Best. I have been with them since 2004. I insured my Saint Bernards with them and my cats. At one time I had 9 animals insured with them. I have had many claims, sme totaling nearly $10,000. They have paid fully the amount the policy said was covered. No run around and no BS. Their Customer Service people have always been polite and compassionate. It is not their fault if people don't read their policy and know what it covers. Reading the policy is important! Then you know what is covered.

I have been with Pet's Best since 2010 and left for 4 months because of a divorce economics and now I am back. I can't say ENOUGH GOOD THINGS about them. They process claims immediately, are helpful and compassionate on the phone and their rates for the same coverage elsewhere are much less. I think some who have left neg comments here have situations that no insurance company would have tolerated. I am not returning to Pet's Best and I am so relieved to be back with them. I know them well and highly recommend them to all.

I had signed up for a quarterly insurance with pets best on 7/7/2017 for a quarterly insurance. While signing up for the insurance i had provided my card information. Yesterday my card got automatically charged for the insurance for next quarter, but there was no email or any information given to me regarding the automatic payment during the end of the time. This is a shock to me and when i went to the website the site didn't show that my card will be automatically charged in the payment section or any where else where a normal user access the site. There was also no option to opt out of automatic payment in the site. When i call and asked for cancellation and refund, the person mentioned... Read More

Hi Dennis, payment as advised upon enrollment and in your policy documents, is automatically drafted. If you would like to opt our and send a quarterly check for payment you can. Refunds are not based on whether the policy was used or not, but rather how long you were insured. Insurance is meant to help you with the unexpected. We are sorry to see you go and wish you the best.

With Pets Best, its all about the Money. Pets Bests after many years with them missed a payment and then submitted that payments for many month after they decide to send my check back in a blank piece of paper with no explanation. I guess that is how they do business not taking time to explain. Will not recommend this company!

Prices have doubled in two years... Plus $100 deductible, plus copayment. I mean. I was paying $100 this year and I just heard from them and they increased it to $150....Based on number of claims? Really? I rather have a savings account for my Dog. If they do not offer someting better and reasonable, I am canceling today

Hi Claud, your rates can go up each year when your policy renews. In order for us to determine the adequate premium we need to maintain our services, we analyze total claims data related to pet age, breed, geographic location, and factor in general inflation. Rates are based on nothing more than the risk your pet represents. Older pets tend to see higher rates because their odds of health issues are increasing, as well as the odds that those issues are going to be more expensive. Rates do not increase due to claim history—it’s all based on potential risk. We encourage our customers with older pets not to cancel as they are—unfortunately—entering this area of greater risk. Please keep in mind we offer several options to find a policy that will best fit your budget. Please contact us at 1-877-738-7237 if you would like to go over these options.

I want to reply to PetsBest response of my review. Specifically their statement: " A diagnosis of a toxin is covered by our accident policies as long as there is a confirmed substance that caused the toxicity. However, medical records indicated the vet was not sure what was causing the symptoms. During Tiff's 3 day stay at the ER, the doctors informed me that statistically 60%-70% of the time a dog comes in with her symptoms they will not be able to determine the toxin, just treat it. Just another way the insurance industry can write a generic response to its customer when denying a claim, after all the odds are in their favor by 60-70% of the time since veterinarians can't... I’ve been with this company since 2012 and over the past 3 years my premiums have doubled. I have two cats, one is 5 and is healthy, the other is 13 and contracted diabetes 2 years ago requiring insulin. PetsBest has been very good with reimbursements. However based on the level of increases that have taken place over the past two years, I’m guessing that my premiums will negate any benefits on the monthly insulin prescription within two years. The level of increases for my 13 year old is theoretically far beyond that of my 5 year old. I’m very disappointed with PetsBest because I’d felt secure and fortunate to have had the fore-sight to have this policy for my cat. Unfortunately, my cat... Read More

Not sure how to rate this-- I had coverage for one year with this company. My dog had a skin infection while covered. Initially, they covered his visits and prescriptions and I was very pleased. My vet prescribed a special temporary prescription diet--they refused to pay because the plan excludes food. The vet said he needed weekly medicated baths until the infection cleared. These baths were performed at the vet's office with a prescription medication. They refused to pay, because they don't cover "grooming"..There was no discussion...even though this needed to be done (if it wasn't, they would have paid out much more for additional meds and visits--not smart on their part). Of course... Read More
