Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

I have used this service twice and I have been dissatisfied each time. The first time was for my ice maker in my fridge. I have coverage, called twice to confirm coverage, put a claim in for ice maker and they sent someone out to diagnose and then they denied the part stating I wasn't covered for the ice maker despite the confirmation I got twice for it. They didn't even have on record that I called questioning the coverage when I received my documents. The second time was just this week. My heater went out, they sent someone out to diagnose and fix it. There were two parts that went bad. They covered one part and not the other and I had to pay $150 on top of my service charge to get it... Read More

I made a claim at the end of November 2015, this company denied the claim based on what they said the part was in their excluded items. I research this situation further and found that they were wrong based on the specifics (I read the fine print). Brought it up their attention and they still refused the claim. This company, best that I can tell, is a scam. Please stay away from them if your looking a legitimate home warranty company.

Choice Home Warranty is a false advertiser of services- they state on the front page of their web site how they cover appliances such as sinks, fridges, etc, but they don't tell you the details of what they don't cover such as faucets to sinks, water/ice makers in fridges- but they state how they cover these things overall on their site. I have had a different company of a home warranty in the past and they never split hairs in coverage as Choice does- so I am switching companies based on his disappointment- I paid my copay of $60 to get the diagnosis of which they don't cover leaking faucets to sinks, only the pipes underneath. Shady's motha effer's

Not Happy!!! First off, we live in Michigan and it's winter. On Christmas eve our boiler went out. I went online and filed a claim. I heard nothing back from them for four days. The weather was pretty mild at the time, so I tried to be patient with it being the holliday. We were able to keep the house decent with our fireplace and a couple space heaters. I called them on the fourth day to find out what was going on. They were pleasant and sent out a tech. He checked out our boiler and made his diagnosis. The warranty company stated to his boss that it was a covered issue and asked for pictures. The tech took a few pictures, sent them to his boss, then immediately called his boss. In that... Be VERY careful about the fine print on the warranty. Our refrigerator has a recurring problem with water freezing in the bottom of the refrigeration compartment making it impossible to open the fruit and vegetable drawers. This has been repaired by the Choice technicians temporarily three times. This time Choice refuses to pay the claim. Their coverage does not cover drains or stoppages. If the drain causes the refrigerator not to function correctly why is it not covered. I expect because that is a common problem and they do not want to pay the tech to fix it. Still, READ THE FINE PRINT!!! I am not a satisfied customer

I have had a few bad experiences with Choice. If you are considering buying a Choice Home Warranty, be sure to read the agreement very carefully. The Sales department does not go over everything with you. A lot of items they cover may need to have a periodic manufacture suggested check-up from a non-Choice vendor (paid by you) in order to be covered in your Choice Warranty.

This warranty company is awful! The seller of the house we bought used them for the home warranty, a month into owning the home the hot water tank went out. We called the company, it took two days for the technician to arrive, he said we needed a new tank and left. Two days later another technician came out and was unable to look in the tank because his wrench broke. Choice HW called us and said our claim was denied because there was sediment build up which caused the wrench to break and it should have been flushed out every 6 months. First of all, we just moved in so we have no control over what the owner did or did not do to maintain the tank. Second, the technician NEVER EVEN OPENED... Read More

I looked this company up online and decided to click for a free quote. literally 10 seconds later, my phone rang with an agent from this company. When I told him I needed more than a few seconds to look over their website, he sighed loudly and sarcastically and hung up on me. Literally 30 seconds later, I got yet another call, and when I told this agent that I wanted more than a minute to make up my mind, he said, "It's alright with me if you want to pay more..." and that's when I hung up on him. I think I'll just pass on this company if this is their M.O.

This company does not cover what their coverage states. When they say they cover ALL components and parts, they most certainly do not. They have continued to reject all of my claims even though nothing was my fault, but product malfunction. Low cost to have someone come out; however they cover very little. Read terms and conditions...they don't even abide by their own.
